Gomez's assessment of Khan
Fair?

what has he done to suggest he's world class?
does anyone think he lasts 4 rounds with the top dogs in the division?
'I fight in front of 10k fans so I'm one of the top dogs in the division'

Not really. How can you be world class with such glaring weaknesses? Defeats the object.
What you could say is some areas of his game are world class standard, many are not. Offensively, world class. Speed is world class.
Chin is area level. Defence, still leaky. Inside game, non-existent
Conclusion = European level

Yep, Gomez is right in what he is saying but Khan aint world class.

Khan has so much going for him and is potentially world class.
But as Gomez says, Khan has a lot to learn.
If I was Khan, Gomez would become a fixture in sparring. Depends whether Gomez would agree to it.
Needs a world class trainer too to help him remove the flaws.

Conclusion = European levelThat's probably about right, but he won't be beating Yuri Romanov in the foreseeable future.

I agree with Gomez, actually. Well put.
Also Khan's power is not as great as it seems as well. Sure Gomez showed great heart, but Khan hit him flush time after time and couldn't finish him.

Khan is a huge lightweight and a good puncher, but not heavy handed and certainly not 1 punch KO power (obviously).
He is probably top euro level, as long as no-one hits him back.

Khan shows glimpses of world class but glimpses are not enough.
There are times when Khan looks incredible tbh but i don't think he will ever be the complete package.

he's only 21 lets not forget.....
But he was claiming he'd be ready for a world title by now.

Lets be honest here can does do some stuff very well but he needs alot fo work on his defence and ring generalship. I think his chin ait solid but i don't think it is as weak as alot of people are now making out. I think he needs to leave ****** and his half rate coach's in the uk and get hooked up with someone like mayweather who can teach him to make the most of his abilities and gloss over his faults.

Gomez is hardly going to say "Well, he beat me but he's really an overhyped chinny precocious kid with an ego the size of ****stan". However, until Khan beats a world class fighter, it's ridiculous to call him world class.

Erm, he knocked him down twice and stopped him. Did you watch the fight?

Yeah, knocked him down but couldn't really finish him could he? It took an awful lot of punches for the fight to be stopped.

Yes, he did.
Yes, he did.
Gomez had come back from shots like that all night. He'd took those flurries on the chin and then fired back. Plus the ref stopped it after Khan had missed most of those shots. GOmez could have contimnued from that, he was not out on his feet therefore it was not a proper stoppage.

It was a great fight.
Amir showed his heart when he was being pressured and came back fuckin sik. nuff respect to gomez tho, we already knew about his heart.
great ability.
imo, khan should look to hire a top defensive coach like Roger Mayweather. He's worked with him in the past but i think he should make the sacrifice and setup base in america. He must hone his defensive capabilities if he wants to become world champ.
But i truly believe he can if he works on that side of his game. Offensively, he can catch any fighter in the world with his handspeed and footwork. But guys like campbell, casamayor and diaz will catch khan way too much at the moment. This is why he should bide his time. Hes 21 ffs. Sick fight.

Agreed, he should up sticks move to USA and work with Roger. Team Khan appear to have a thing for Buddy McGirt but we all know he will do little to improve Khan.
It is time Khan gave up his home comforts if he wants to improve unless he is happy working with the likes of baldy (Powell) and kidding himself that he is getting better.
Conclusion = WBU level
AGREED!!!!!
****** was saying in the sun on saturday that Calzaghe didnt win a world title till he was 25. So by the sound of it i think ****** is going to take Khan down the WBU route.
Whilst the fight was good and we know that Gomez gives it his all, a supposed superstar who is a division bigger, coming into his prime should not be having as much trouble as Amir had last night against an old 3-3 from his last 6 fights Michael Gomez.
And once again when Khan went down it was as though someone took the carpet from under him.

Khan isn't world class. We won't know if he is world class until he fights someone else who is considered world class.
It's easy to look great against guys who are smaller than you, completely shot, semi retired, or just run of the mill journey men.
Put him in with someone his own size, who can punch back, and then we will see what he is made of!
Oh wait, they won't do that, because they know he will get sparked out the minute he is hit by someone who can really punch

Khan offenisvely is world class, he has good hand speed, fires crisp combinations to the head and body and has a great aresenal of punches. But defensively he is very, very niave. His defence basically comprises of keeping his hands up and keeping opponents at a distance. Domestic level fighters know that and do that already. He moves well but doesn't emply angles, he doesn't know how to clinch and tie up an opponent and he doesn't know how to parry a shot.
At the moment he is a fighter with a world class offence but a domestic level defence and at lightweight he doesn't have the chin to get away with that up against a genuine world class opponent.
****** will steer Khan safely towards a WBU title because at the moment there is no chance of him beating a genuine title holder. But under a good trainer we may see a better version of Khan in the years to come.

Khan needs a decent trainer who will work on getting him to use his physical advantages.
For a fighter who's above average height for a lightweight and has great handspeed, his defence Is awful and can be pushed on the backfoot.

Whoever takes over as Khans new trainer needs to treat him as a no fight just walked in off the street kid and needs to teach him how to actually throw a decent punch and how to defend. His chin will stay with him and will result in him getting embarrassed straight away he facs a puncher.

There are times when Khan looks incredible tbh but i don't think he will ever be the complete package. He's well on his way as a pro now, he aint ironing out the majority of them problems.Cant ever see him being effective in close, and he aint gonna be gettin a better chin !

I think Khan can operate at world level. He has some serious tools & with the right sparring & training he can still improve. I dont think he necessarily needs a nig name trainer, just someone who can focus on the areas that need improving. A lot of things come naturally to Khan that he'll do regardless of who trains him.
He needs a fight in the States, personally I'd like to see him sign with GBP but it seems clear he'll be re-signing with ******. Thats not a disaster though, Khan has a good ranking with the WBC already so with the right match making he could definitely end up with one of the 3 belts eventually.
He just needs to bide his time because this year the lightweight division could get seriously shaken up.

If you can't see Khan showed world class abilities then your blind. Tighten up his defense and he'll be very hard to beat. Khan would take Katisdis, Thaxton and Romanov for my money
