There has been may posts and comments recently regarding Amir Khan, and it is pretty much impossible to to keep up with ones you reply too, so i thought i would post this one in the hope that everybody gives there own honest opinion, and i say that in the hope that you give it as a fight fan.
Here we go then...
I have posted on here a few times and it is quite obvious that i am a Gomez Fan, this is true as i have known him as a close friend for over 25yrs, and yes i am always biased when it comes to his fights and my predictions.
Some say Mike is shot some say he should have retired years ago, however whenever he is given the big fights and everybody expects him to be defeated, and the latter being the case more recently, the man always delivers, he does not come to get paid he comes to fight no matter who the opponent is, and he has that one special feature that a lot of fighters dont have, desire and determination, sadly this is not enough to see him through these fights anymore, and for this reason alone i would like to see Mike hang them up now, he has nothing else to prove.
He has done a lot of things in his career that some fighters dream of achieving, and hell he almost pulled it off against Khan, the ammount of people that were urging hm on after decking Amir was amazing.
When the fight against Amir was announced everybody thought it as a one way ticket for Khan, but it is nice to hear that Mike is getting the praise he so deserves for his performance, and so he should, the man is 31yrs of age, has had a tough career, gave each and every one of us something to cheer about at times.
I do find it sad that fighters of Mikes calibre are easily forgotten and treated with so much disrespect when there career is at an end, especially when they have given so much pleasure to many fight fans over the years.
Michael Gomez is one of the nicest people you could ever wish to meet, and i would ask you to not listen to BS stories from people who profess to know him and criticise him, but as fight fans please consider Mikes feelings now and post some messages of support for him.
I would just like to say personally to Mike, Thank you for the excitement that you have givne over the last Ten years, you are a remarkable fighter, and you will surely be missed.
Come on guys Lets hear it for Gomez......:happy :happy :happy :happy :happy :happy :happy

Michael Armstrong gave me both my domestic boxing highlight and lowlight. The highlight came in October 2003 when a prime Gomez took Amazing Alex, dangled him over the edge and then dropped him in spectacular fashion...it was one of the most explosive fights that I have ever been lucky enough to witness. The action was so intense that I really feel that everyone in the sports centre felt that they were in the ring with the fighters......amazing, not Alex, but Gomez.
The lowlight came last October at Donny Dome when Michael took on Carl Johanneson. It was clear to me that he was a shadow of his former self, but despite this he came out snorting and for a while it looked like he was going to take Johanneson apart, but sadly it wasn't to be...characteristically, in defeat, Michael was carried out on his shield after giving everything he had.
Always value for money, a heart the size of a planet and a true ring warrior. My 10 year old daughters favourite fighter used to be DLH, that is until she saw a recording of saturdays fight...now she appreciates the fighting spirit of Michael Gomez.
Good luck for the future Michael in whatever you decide to do.

I said Michael Gomez wasn't shot after the Johansson fight. Loads jumped on me. Gomez proved again he isn't shot. He isn't the definition of the word. He may not be at his peak but sure as hell ain't shot.

Gomez was a fun fighter who normally gave excellent value for money. Obviously the highlight was the amazing victory over Arthur, it was a truly stunning win.
So xoborp you are a good friend of Gomez? So how much money did you make on the McDonagh fight then? Allegedly of course!;)

Thats not a very nice thing to say, it is almost like incinuating that the fight was fixed, but in answer to your question, i didnt make any money on the fight as i didnt place a bet on it, incidentally both Mike and MCdonoughs purse were withheld pending an investigation by the IBU, which on its conclusion cleared both fighters of any wrongdoing, Mike had simply had enough of the game at that point in his life, and decided to walk away from it, albeit in those circumstances, but that doesnt make the fight a fix now does it, if so every time a boxer turns his back and calls it off does this mean that they fixed theres also, i do not recall Roberto Duran Ray Leonard being accused of fixing there fight during Durans No Mas do you??? Nuff Said .....:yep

Michael Gomez has had a tough life - just let him retire - he is too old now - he looks old - very brave performance that was his one last trip to the well to stir up anything that was left in him

Great credit to Gomez but he should retire. I have been saying he should retire for awhile now and obviously I was wrong. He got a good pay day against Khan and proved himself a warrior (again). If he decides not to retire then I hope he just has a couple of easy 4 to 6 rounders on local shows but I do fear that his fighting attitude will make him want to fight a danger fighter again and also the fact that his style is not suited to "easy" fights.
The guy is a good bloke and I wish him all the best. I will never forget his performance and heart in his fight with Carl Johanesson, he gave a us fans ringside a great night. Thanks Gomez.

I cant say Gomez seems a nice guy like I've read on this thread
he seems a nasty piece of work
a typical council estate rough and ready bad egg
but lots of heart and bravery - so I'm not slagging him off as a fighter
just saying there is no way he is "one of the nicest person you could wish to meet"
tell that to Carl Johanessburg who Gomez was slamming his head up against him and the weigh in and uttering threats - it went beyond just the usual psylogical nonense - Frank Maloney had to step in and just told Gomez to clear off cos he is just a "bully" "thats all you are a bully" Maloney said.
Gomez is a unpleasant person
and he looks like a old man these days - that fight was his pension fight

Like you said Flint, he "Seems" a nasty person, why dont you take a stroll around the council estate where he was raised rough and ready and tell the folk there exactly how you feel about people living on council estates and give them your views on how much a bunch of bad eggs they all really are, there are plenty of decent floks that live on council estates or have certainly lived on one, probably yourself included, or your parents at some point, and you can see why because your attitude is absolutley appalling and insulting to people who are not quite as priveledged as some other people are, or do you speak from your present personal experiences!!!
Grow up you child and get a life, one that is far better than the one you are having now.

Are you Frank ****** by any chance.
Easy now boppa, even if you dream i was Frank ****** you better wake up and post an apology.
That man has links with all sorts of villains, been accused of fraud, been involved in shootouts, notorious in the boxing fraternity, always gets his way with his fighters to satisfy his own gains, been sued by many fighters for what is really theirs, has been in more courts for broken contracts than any other person i know, a really shady character that owes fighters millions because of his dodgy corrupt contracts.
I know as your reading this you are saying sorry, and your apology will be accepted when you post it on here for everyone to see, and you can rest assured i will not sue you for thinking i was frank ******.
Kind Regards

Bad egg? This is not an Ealing comedy film. Gomez grew up hard, lived in a tough place and entered into a rough sport. He did not mince into the gym and say "I say it would be spiffing if you chaps allowed me to do some of this boxing malarkey".
Look at the smirk of the face of Johanneson. Gomez likes to intimidate people, it is part of the game and many fighters do it in many ways. Gomez is an all-or-nothing type, all the things you laud him for as a fighter are the things that you say show he has bad character.
On a personal level would I like to owe Gomez money? No. Is he from the rough part of the world. Yes. Many of his earlier incidents came when he was a young man and in my experience he is great to deal with, always happy to give you his time and shows a lot of respect for his opponent when the final bell goes.
Gomez may seem a rough guy but on the other hand Gerry McCann looks like a saint, which guy would you trust your kid with.
Gomez is Ok in my book.
im great friends with michael and johnny nelson ,michael is having a movie about his unreal life being made from being born in the back of a car after a crash to being clinically dead for a few minutes after a stabbing and his heart stopped to getting off with justifiable hiomicide for killing a guy outside a bar.
i have sparred with him a miollion times amateur and pro and i always wanted to get the pro fight with him as we fought amateur.

Legend in my eyes, definately one of the most exciting british fighters ive ever seen up there with the Benns and Thompsons for me. When he really wants it you would struggle to find a bigger warrior in the sport. Great talker aswell very charismatic guy. Loads of respect for Gomez.

He once memorably got me to shake ankles with him after exhausting every handshake in the book. Now that sounds more like an Ealing comedy film.

I said Gomez seemed that typical type of council estate bad egg who had a bad upbringing and says "seems" a nasty person - of course - all I can say is he "seems" because I dont know him personally. Maybe if I met him in the flesh he would be
"the nicest person you could ever wish to meet"
but forgive me if I have my doubts about this.
There are some decent folk living on council estates - I accept that.
But it is a reality wether you care to admit it or not
there are alot of bad eggs on council estates - they are all bunched together where the council sends people who have the following:
poor upbringing - uneducated - some of them rude and nasty people
unsuccessful - cannot afford their own home - caused by unemployment or low wages
drug addicts / alcoholics / chain smokers / poor diets
scruffy clothes
also on council estates you see stuff like burnt out stolen cars and graffti and other unpleasant things caused by the people that live there
I just pointed out a reality that you have alot of people who are "bad eggs" all bunched into the same place.
among them there are decent people - and I'm sure these decent people would tell you there are plenty of "bad eggs" around them who they wish they did not live by.

Possibly. I have been known to keep a pair of shoes going longer than I should.
Perhaps it's because I'm unsuccessful and can't afford to mortgage myself up to the eyeballs.
Perhaps it's because I'm rude and nasty, or uneducated.
On consideration, it must be the scruffy clothes that made the council "send" me here! I must be a Michael Gomez style "Bad Egg". Woohoo!
