Amonsot hospitalized after fight

July 21, 2007 LAS VEGAS -- Lightweight boxer Czar Amonsot suffered a bleed on his brain Saturday following his 12-round loss to Michael Katsidis for the WBO interim lightweight title.
Ringside physician Jeff Davidson was concerned by the head blows Amonsot took from Katsidis in the rousing affair and ordered him sent to the hospital for a neurological examination.
Keith Kizer, the executive director of the Nevada Athletic Commission, said doctors discovered a small subdural hematoma. He said it was not expected to be life threatening, but said Amonsot's career is probably over.
Amonsot, 21, who was knocked down once in the second and again in the 10th, is 18-3-1.

Mesi's career is not over. & i am sure Czar will fight on . there is no proof that a subdural hematoma that is healed, renders a man mroe likley to sustain one in the future. like you said though, it is a terrible thing that goes along with the sport. im sure many many fighters suffer brain bleeds and never know it.

I said that yesterday. I said dude was going to have a brain injury. Some of those shots he took were knockout shots like the first knockdown.. I dont know how the fuck he got up....Sometimes your chin can be too good.. Damned the kid had a hell of a beard..I mean he took more big punches by far..Mike aint no light hitter.

This just proves that if all fighters were given these tests after every fight, we would see this all of the time. Someone's career shouldn't be over due to a common injury that even football players get on a regular basis. These are the types of injuries that heal on their own with no recurrent problems.

Any hematoma to the brain is serious and life threatening. I agree, concusions are common sport injuries but not a hematoma in the brain. If Amonsot wouldve been hit in the area of the hematoma with a serious blow and the blood clot in his brain pop, dislodge, or travel to another part of the brain (embolism), he'd be dead. Amonsot was only 21. I would've waited till Amonsot matured more mentally and physically knowing what a beast Katsidis is now. Never seen him before except on the internet. That would be a shame, Amonsot is still far from his prime years in boxing, and from what he has shown, he has what it takes to be champion one day. I hope he recovers and is able to fight again. No shame in his loss as he prooved to be a dead game warrior.

Seems to me like you are "grossly ill-informed" if you are disagreeing with me. Most subdural hematomas are nothing more than a broken blood vessel in the brain, that absorbs into the brain and doesn't exist anymore after the injury heals. People think that people are more at risk for injury after something like that, and they are wrong. When it is just a broken blood vessel, the blood vessel no longer exists after it heals, so it is impossible to reinjure something that no longer exists. Most of these injuries where bleeding on the brain is concerned, the size of the injury is about the size of a pencil tip.

The only time that people should be concerned, is when the injury is of a greater magnitude. When surgery is needed on the brain to ease the pressure and situations like that, then of course the person should avoid physical contact sports afterwards. However, when a person has a broken blood vessel, then people need to get with the program.
