According to Frank ****** (yes not most reliable source I know) HBO have offered Joe Calzaghe a Bernard Hopkins fight in late Feb if he comes through Kessler like expected on November.

Very excited by this news although I wonder what weight it would be at and what titles would be on the line ?

still so far off though anything can happen between now and then. Imagine what a legacy Joe-Cal will have after beating the Dane AND B-hop :yep

Not likely. Calzaghe wouldn't be ready to fight again in February after fighting in November.

I dunno man. Fighting Kessler is on Nov 3, if they can get a late Feb date thats 4 whole months to play with.

I think Joe's hands are used to healing by now

You mean imagine the legacy Hopkins will have after he just wooped on the #3 p4p and then desroys Calzaghe?

well.. that to if it happens. In my eyes hopkins beat Taylor both times anyway so his legacy is already amazing.

Hopefully. Even better if Calzaghe goes to the states and beats the shit of Hopkins at 175. Shut the haters up for a while.

True enough. But I could already imagine what his detractors would say if he was to beat BHOP in Britain.

the usual "he never fought where it mattered"

But your right. BHOP v Calzaghe (should he beat Kessler) would be fucking huge no matter where they fight.

It sounds like people are favoring him to edge Kessler. I certianly think he will UD him in an exciting fight... where have all the Kessler nuthuggers gone? you remember after his last win this board was unbarable io had to go in exile from it.

The Kessler fight could go either way. But i'm leaning towards a comfy ud for Calzaghe. I doubt Hopkins would want Kessler should he win though. Hopkins may favour himself against Calzaghe due to his age and brittleness but if Kessler comes up trumps against JC then i'd say Hopkins will be looking for a RJJ rematch.

I reckon it would be in the States , one of the big Casinos in Las Vegas would make up for the lack of money from the gate itself .

I think Calzaghe wants to shed his homeboy image too as Smazz20 has pointed out .

Joe beats Kessler easily based on style, won't go into that yet again.

But Hopkins, even at 42-43 - is bad news for Joe Calzaghe.

Hopkins has almost the archetypical style for beating Calzaghe. He's a strong inside fighter with tricky defence, some rough/dirty tactics for smashing up his opponent on the inside and enough nouse on the outside not to be tagged all night

With Calzaghe's pride and inability to stop himself getting into a brawl, Hopkins would bring Calzaghe to his level.. it would be one of Calzaghe's biggest tests available in my mind.

Either Calzaghe is able to keep his mind, keep the distance and only come in during flurries - or Hopkins makes it an ugly fight and wins a decision similar to the Winky decisionyou said it. calzaghe might pull it out vs. the older hopkins but its still gonna be a rough nasty fight.

hit and run, slip and slide, but not destroy.
joe would win,hes a cut above tarver and taylor and winky was over optimum weight.Bridge too far for Bhop.

This sounds great.

It means that Kessler will most likely face Hopkins in February.

Forget about Calzaghe! He is 35 years of age and on the fall.

It is obvious, that he will lose to the much stronger Kessler. Kessler will methodically outpunch Calzaghe.

I find it funny, that all the British mainstream fans and Blocky think, that this will be a pure walk-over for Calzaghe.

But then again, thats the same people that consider Bika and Ashira to be better than Mundine and Andrade, allthough THE RING MAGAZINE thinks otherwise in their ratings.

Excellent analysis haavard with only about 45 major drawbacks.

In the extremely unlikely event that Kessler beats Calzaghe (Joe gets a hand injury or something) Hell would freeze over before Hopkins would fight Kessler. I bet Hopkins hasnt even heard of him ? Kessler who ?

British mainasteam fans ? Erm no. Its the danish and Kessler fans who are over-hyping Kessler, Britain/rest of the world and neutrals with any boxing knowledge at all think its Calzaghe to win.

Ring magazine thinks otherwise ? erm....

Dont know if anyones told you this mate, but Joe has the Ring magazine belt...not Kessler.

Kessler a harder fight for JC than Hopkins ?

You cant seriously think that.

I've no idea where this Kessler bandwagon has come from. In what way is he a better fighter than ATG Hopkins ?

I have a feeling Calzaghe's activity sways the judges in a very ugly fight. Expect a knockdown early from the Philly fighter, and some simulated gay sex late from the Welshman.

Yes -- I think you may be correct. I'll go a step further and predict that Calzaghe will avoid Pavlik and fight RJJ's corpse. Hopkins will step in and Pavlik will get his ass kicked. And at the end of the day, Calzaghe will retire. I have so much confidence in this scenario that if I am wrong, I'll leave ESB forever.

This thread is bringing out the best in BlueApollo. It's also the funniest thread resurrection I've seen in quite a while.
