I was some Marciano fights last night, and I was thinking, is Marciano's handspeed underrated? He was by no means a speed demon, but he did seem to have decently quick hands on the inside. He was able to throw uppercuts and hooks pretty quickly, and his Suzie Q never came slowly.

Yes, underrated. Hiis short arms helped, less ground to cover. His timing was also underrated. Combine short arms, good timing, and decent speed and you are pretty fast.

Marciano was very athletic his skill is underated as well he was a predictable fighter though in his style but it was also predictable that he would knock you out.

Marciano's handspeed was a ruinous advantage against Rex Layne, who also failed to muscle Rocky into giving ground. The double hook he flattened Kid Matthews with wasn't exactly delivered in slow motion either. He was perfectly capable of delivering punches with electrifying suddeness when he chose to put some nitrous oxide behind his shots (just as Ali could whack when sitting down on his strikes).

Marciano's defensive ability's, counter punching, and hand speed are all dramatically underrated.

I think he had average handspeed. So NO iwould not say he is underrated in that aspect.

His handspeed was no where near Tyson's or Patterson's.

Chris Byrd had more hand speed. (Yes he did old timers) Go to youtube and see.

No one is comparing Marcianos hand speed to Tyson or Patterson. But Rockys hands were not slow and his speed was decieving and that's what the threads about.

Tyson and Patterson both had very fast hands.

Haha, that was so smartass, and awesome sounding.:rofl I think Rock had a little underrated handspeed but his hands still shouldnt be considered fast, although definetly not slow, but his most underrated thing was his overall ring smarts IMO.

Yeah, Marciano did have underrated ring smarts. He was really a pretty smart fighter, he was good at getting people's rythms down and he could fake them out.
