Looks like this is going ahead in September. Can Cook upset AAA. I know he was very weight drained against Luevano.
I doubt it, he's way smaller than Arthur. He doesn't really have anything in his favour in this fight, and he won't be a puncher at super feather to expose Arthur's questionable chin.
Its about time Cook started fighting more regularly, and in decent class. Not a bad little fighter, has been forgotten.
I don think so, unless making weight takes its effect on Arthur. He needs to move up after this, all the decent fights are at Lightweight anyway.

I'd pick AAA to win but if he struggles he has to move up - he obviously needs a change.

I read this week that Arthur was going to face either Jesus Chavez or a younger Mexican who's name Ive forgotten.
I suppose ****** is probably thinking that if he puts Arthur in against Cook he will still have the belt regardless of who wins and then the winner can face Kevin Mitchell, in whichcase he will still have the belt regardless of who wins. If I was a promoter Id probably do the same thing.
I would pick Arthur to come out tops out of the 3 of them.

i like cooky in this one. i still see nothing in AAA that makes me believe him to be anything other than a good honest, but c level fighter.

i like cooky in this one. i still see nothing in AAA that makes me believe him to be anything other than a good honest, but c level fighter.Alex isnt world class. I think his reached his level and wont achieve much more than the WBO which was gifted to him. Cook on the other hand has been around the block a bit and despite his fairly glittering record (which in some respects does flatter to decieve) did accomplish his trade the hard way, by winning all domestic titles much like AA did. The main diffrence is AA had a speedy hype train right behind him. Cooky is a much hungrier fighter than Alex and Alex for some time has bought into his own hype hence his shocking loss to Gomez.
WBO title or not this is a genuine 50/50 fight for me and Cooky is no Stephen Foster. AA will have his hands full. Cooky can punch but his not the type of puncher like Gomez that puts alot on them. His more of a box puncher much like AA. I hope Nicky has enough left in the tank as when i spoke to him last which was some years ago he seemed very weary back then.

I watched Steve Luevanos fight last night and he was fortunate IMO to keep his strap but he handled Cookie with ease. I reckon as long as Arthur can comfortably make weight he will win.

The extra few lbs IMO could help Cook a great deal. He was always too big for feather, I told everyone here that he was an accident waiting to happen as he was dead at featherweight. & I was proved right when the Londoner got spanked by Luaveno. I could be nasty like many others on here when talking about boxers they dont like & say Cook was exposed.
Im a bigger man than that though, & I believe weight struggles caused the Luaveno spanking. Should be fun on here if this fight comes off, after all most englanders thought Cookie would beat Scotty at featherweight:lol:
Arthurs good, but hes no Scott Harrison. So at super-feather, this is an interesting fight. Very interesting in fact... especially as Arthur should have moved up to lightweight a long time ago. His lethargic performance against Foster jnr should have been the wake up call for Arthur to move up.
All makes for a great fight, & a great time on ESB between us jocks & my fellow englanders;)
Of course, it remains to be seen if Reilly is the real deal info wise, or just another rumourmongering shitstirrer!!!
The jury is out....

The jury is out....Cookie told me his been struggling to make weight for some time. His been at that weight since he was 15/16. His a year younger than me. Even when i spoke to him he was talking about moving to 35 and that was at least 3 years ago.
I would pick Cook here, he is a good fighter, and Arthur is struggling badly at the weight.

No he will fight Mitchell before the year is over.
Did anyone hear Buncey talking about Arthur vs Guzman fight falling through. He said "theres Juan Guzman..........the man that was scared to face Alex Arthur...........yeh right, we will find out the truth one day" lol

Arthur like Harrison will be too stubborn to move up because they'll want to hold on to the WBO belt.

I met Vinny Mitchell on holiday last year, he shares a gym with Nicky Cook.
I was tlaking to him about the fight and he said Cook had been stuggling at the weight for over a year and that he was seriosuly drained at F/W.

What if Cook pulls this off and actually beats Arthur, will ****** put on Cook versus Mitchell, not just stablemates but great friends, would they want to face each other? or would Mitchell go the WBO route.:hey

Oh stop being so insecure Reilly. Didnt I just tell you that you re a good man who does his bit for scottish boxing, chasing interviews via BEBO & stuff? Thats to be commended!
Keep them exclusives coming hotshot:D
If it aint Nicky Cook though... where does that leave you? With egg on your face, thats where!!!
You want me to phone you a cab just now? Theres still time for a sharp exit before the big brit ESB pigeons come home to roost...

I think ****** will operate a WBO 130lb tournament, with the likes of Mitchell, Arthur and Cook in it.
In response to the previous post - ****** will not let Alex legitimise his paper title, and I would doubt Alex would really care tbh.
He was talking about Arthur vs Mitchell as a possible for later this year - but I don't really think that Kevin is ready. He has plenty of attributes, but seems to be lacking in certain areas.
iu have to disagree on mitchell.i think he is ready mate.i think him and arthur could be ujk fight of the year .

Mitchell needs testing at a higher standard. The chin and bottle he showed when it was 'backs to the wall' time against Johanneson was encouraging though.
Put him in with some fringe contenders or top 10 opponents and the proof will be in the pudding. I think he can go a long way, but his 27-0 record is very misleading.

Yes you could, and I agree.
I just think Arthur would have the edge over Mitchell at this point - though AAA looked ordinary in his last fight. One will climb and one will slide pretty soon, its a case of when the paths cross.

Baz Carey rematch, anyone?
I have no idea as to who his next opponent will be - Murray and Meager are facing off for the British strap, Thaxton is going for the European again, so more than likely it will be a chump from Timbuctu for the Commonwealth strap.
The Commonwealth title has gone down in my estimation because of the aforementioned window of opportunity to get some obscure names in from traditionally Commonwealth countries with padded records.
For me it is on a par with an English title.

EDINBURGH'S WBO super-featherweight boxing champion Alex Arthur will defend his crown against Dagenham's former British, European and Commonwealth featherweight champion, Nicky Cook on September 6 at Manchester's MEN Arena.
And a win over the Essex man could set up a bout with Bolton's Amir Khan. Confirming both Arthur's defence against Cook and – if victorious – the dream Scotland v. England, Arthur v. Khan scrap.
Frank ****** spokesman, Richard Maynard, commented: "We tried very hard to get American-based ring legend Marco Antonio Barrera for Alex as a first title defence but that fell through so Alex will now fight Nicky Cook.
Cook is a former world-rated British featherweight champion, who was previously stopped in his last attempt at a version of the world featherweight title inside the distance.
"But we know that Nicky is a quality fighter who can test Alex Arthur.
"Frank ****** has also told Alex that, if he sees off the challenge of Nicky Cook successfully, then Arthur could face Bolton's Commonwealth lightweight champion Amir Khan, in a WBO title defence in what would be a great England v. Scotland fight that the fans would love."
"But first Arthur must meet and beat Nicky Cook on September 6 in Manchester for that to become a reality."
There is also firm evidence that challenger Cook has a fair dig, having stopped around 50 per cent of his first 25 opponents inside the distance.
Meanwhile, Arthur himself responded: "Now I know who I'll be defending against I can plan my training regime accordingly.
"I will take nothing for granted against Cook – who has been there and done it title-wise – although I look forward to retaining my WBO title against him."
"In this connection, I'm planning to go to Cyprus for ten days to work out with my conditioning coach, John Watson, to ensure that I'm absolutely sharp for Cook in September.
"I also plan to have Irish former world super-bantamweight champion Wayne McCullough in my corner, as before, against Nicky Cook."
Capital ace Arthur was also confident about the outcome of any future ring clash between himself and Khan, saying: "I'm a proven puncher. Glasgow's Willie Limond decked Khan and he has nothing like my punch power so, while I have great respect for Amir, I would fancy my chances in what would be a great fight while it lasted.
"But first I must overcome Nicky Cook."

Who says he is 1.5% b/f this is just stuuupid!!!! What a lot of bollocks, if he was 1.5% b/f he wouldnt have energy to fight. Ask any pro bodybuilder, its not easy to get to those digits and its very unhealthy. Read up on it.
