is in its best shape for a long time IMO.
Alex Arthur - World Champ
Willie Limond - a contender
Kenny Anderson - potential to go far, same with
Ian Millarvie.
Plenty of good, young boxers coming thru like -
Jason Hastie, Gary Young and the best young fighter in Britain IMO
Paul Appleby.
What do you guys think?

Like all those guys, really happy with the way Limond has got it together. Sick of hearing about Millarvie though to be honest, he went over to America about 2 years ago and still haven't seen him fight.
Anyone know what is happening with him?

McEwan, Appleby and Kenny Anderson all look serious prospects .
I first say Anderson at the Commonwealth games and he looked a real puncher, so far his pro career has proven that theory right .
If he can stop Nathan King Scotland will really have something to think about .
I think Appleby is up there with the best in Europe as far as Featherweights go at the moment, the European scene at Featherweight isn't very strong at the moment so I actually wouldn't hesitate about putting Appleby in a European title after a British title defence or two . Although if Monshipour's comeback is serious things may change a litte, if he still has what he did two years ago Monshipour would be a nightmare opponent for the young Scot .
McEwan is coming along quietly under Goldenboy but looks very good .
He could very well be the best of the lot and will not doubt get the right opportunities and match making under his current bosses .
I'm surprised he doesn't get more attention here, especially as he wasn't exactly a bad amatuer either .
Considering the likes of Simpson, Arthur, Ricky Burns Limond, Morrison, McIntyre, Anderson(unless he's though of retiring) and Steven McGuire are around too aswell as guys loike Jamie Coyle, Lee McAllister(prick) and Martin Watson too with prospects such as Jason Hastie things seem very strong for the Scots at the moment .

I think Appleby is an excellent prospect, but has glaring weaknesses that could do with being ironed out before a step up to European level - there is no rush with him anyway, he would be well served earning a Lonsdale belt outright against different kinds of opponents (boxers, brawlers, punchers etc).
He has fought a good standard of opposition thus far, certainly better than most British fighters do in their first 10/12 fights - after a couple of British title defences I would have him fighting the odd Mexican journeyman across the pond to get experience. One reason why so many of our fighters fall short at the elite level is because they lack the experience of boxing on major cards - Ricky Hatton was on a fair few decent bills as a young kid, which I am sure helped him when he was headlining.

What do you guys think?
Do you want to know what I really think?
Scottish boxing is never going to be great.
Its a country that just dosent produce world class fighters like England and occassionaly Wales does.
Ok - Jim Watt and Ken Buchanan were ok - if overrated - I mean Duran stopped Buchanen and Duran lost to Land and Lang was knocked the fuck out twice by Colin Jones.
Them list of guys you mentioned there are mediorce.
Alex Arthur is at the top of that list - but he is not a world class fighter he is a paper champion.
I can't comment on the other guys so much as I have so little intrest in Scotland because they have failed to produce a fighter that gets my intrests.
Willie Limond is ok - British level fighter - thats about it

Seeing as no-one lives on FLINT ISLAND except animals - it would be impossible for a boxer to come from there.
I'm from Swansea you daft cunt.
Swansea has produced:
Colin Jones - in my avatar picture.
and
Floyd Havard
both are products of a little gym behind my house where Colin started boxing when he was 8/9 years old.
and currently from another part of swansea a few miles away from me Crusierweight Enzo Maccarenelli who recently lost to David Haye by a lucky punch!

Kenny anderson hasa good amatuer record. He has a ko record in the start of his career and should be getting himself in the mix up for the british title. He is a good puncher and has a good boxing brain to match, somehting you dont see very much.
appleby won the title at the age of 20,which is an achievemtn on its.in his fights to date he has fought a lot fighters who are actually lightweight, granted there maybe not world class opponents howevewr he does show he has power and a good engine.he does need a lot of work (hel ebven admit htat himself) but to say he is mediocore is a tad harsh.
Craig mcewan is training in la with freddie roach ,who can prob get the best out of most and he has came up against a lot of mexicans and has shown to be quite comfterable, again he had a good amatuer career and will come good i think .have you seen any of his fights ?
as for wullie limond he was doingwell against khan ,he actually had him down for 13 seconds !however the ref helped him out there.i expect him to win the /or fight for the full ibo title soon mate
as for alex arthur being a paper champ .remeber he is holdingthe WBO ;the same belt that both joe calzagh (who is one of my favs btw:good ) and enzo macranelli both held.where they paper champs when they held them.

each fighter has to be judged on merit not on the belt
the fighter makes the belt not the other way round
Calzaghe was always the best supermiddleweight in the world even during that padded out WBO reign of 20 defences
Maccarenlli was gifted the vacant WBO title and in light of his fight with Haye you would have to say he was only a paper champion
Arthur too was gifted the WBO title and judging by his performances I would have to say he too is a paper champion
there is far more paper champions about today then geniune top world class champions

That is complete bullshit. Not only are you using a nonsense A beats B theory, but you quite clearly havn't seen Buchanan fight, as he was a masterful boxer. It's hard to fail to be impressed, unless you have impaired vision. Makes most top 10 British fighters lists.
Back on track, most of these guys are good prospects, but still only prospects even at British level. We'll see how they go, but its exciting times for Scotsmen.

What I dont understand about you Flint is why you are always attacking the scots here. I mean in all seriousness, we are both small Celtic nations, we share a lot in common with each other.
Why you always feel the need to bring down the scots I will never know, but I hear Swansea folk arent as patriotic as their Cardiff counterparts. Maybe that explains your "us Swansea boys & the english are better than you scots" style posts, but of course I cant be sure.
However, who am I to judge a man or a poster?

O I seen footage of Ken Buchanen oright.
Writhing on the floor in agony after Duran put the pain on him.
Eddie Thomas use to train Ken Buchanen.
Then he went on to train a Welshman - Colin Jones - The Welsh Dragon from Swansea Wales.
Jones knocked out Kirkland Lang twice.
Lang then went on to outbox Duran.
Lucky Ken Buchanen never shared the ring with Colin Jones or his all time ranking in British fighters would have dropped a good few places because he would have been laid out on the floor.
Remeber Eddie THomas trained both fighters - Colin was the hardest hitter and the nastier fighter - Ken Buchanen would have been knocked out in some style.

I got unpleasant experiences of two scots men on this site that has turned me against Scotsmen on Eastside boxing
You Dunky are one of them - calling me a scumbag because I started a Big Brother thread - you also talk alot of shit about me on other threads.
the other one is this low life called - Smith
a prickly young man who declared he disliked me pretty much straight away
pheraps in a few years when Smith is a bit older and more comfortbale in his own skin he wont be so prickly

there are many places that I have not been to around the world that one day I wish to visit - but Scotland is not one of them
it has no appeal
Its too far up north where it is cold and windy and any further you are on the way to Iceland
William Wallace is from Scotland - and that film showed what a savage barbaric lot they were -

We only have the most beautiful city in Britain up here, world reknowned tis...
Can't say the same about Wales mind you.
Anyway, yes it is a great time for Scottish boxing. I believe it's only a matter of time before we produce another truly World class fighter...
Personally, I'm a bit peeved at the underwhelming amount of attention that McEwan is getting...ffs he's only with golden boy under the wing of Freddie Roach!
For me though, in the here and now, the best bout involving a Scot in regards to this forum would be AAA vs Kevin Mitchell...would be an excellent bout and would certainly have the debate raging and the banter going...
Hope it happens big time.

aah dont try & deflect the blame onto me fella, you started the beef when you came in last week into a thread & slaughtered scottish boxing, saying that the welsh & english shat all over scotlands boxers. Then you used Joe Calzaghe as a prime example of how welsh boxing was better than scottish boxing, so I came back & told you that Joe wasnt in fact welsh, he was english!

Smith started it insulting me and Colin Jones in a earlier thread.
So I came in the Brit forum with the intent of insulting Scottish fighters.
Who is Smith to insult Colin Jones who is one of Wales best fighters and fought the best pound for pound fighter of his day - and Smith is just some jumped up University Student who thinks he is some kind of hard man.
Colin Jones was a top pro boxer who could punch like a lunatic.
Of course I rate Ken Buchanen - I have always known he is ranked by most as one of Britains finest ever fighters.
Like I said Eddie Thomas trained both Ken Buchanen and then a bit later on Colin Jones - both were good fighters - but they would never have fought each other - Colin was a Welterweight = and Buchanen was a Lightweight.
Pound for Pound Buchanen is probaly a superior boxer to Colin Jones and ranked higher than him - but that don't mean you can just dismiss Colin Jones as nothing.
You don't like it when I spoke negatively of Scottish fighters - and I understand that.
But it's not all one way traffic - you got this Smith then laughing out loud about the name of Colin Jones as if he was some kind of joke.
Colin Jones fought in a era much tougher than today.
There were no paper titles in that era.
And cocky youngster Smith has no respect for fighters like Jones while the likes of Sugar Ray Lenoard said Colin Jones was a "very very very good fighter"
I know who's opinon I would respect more a all time great boxer over a cocky big headed youngster who is only a legend at his own dinner table

Jones was very much a world class fighter. He drew with McCory first time round, then pushed him to a close decision in the return. When he fought Curry, he got cut early and the fight was stopped, before Jones could get into the contest.Jones was only 26 when he retired due to constant back trouble. In todays era, he would be a world champion.I,m positive of that.:deal

I agree
Colin wan the European title in 2 brutal rounds smashing out the long reigning champion in his home ground in Copenhagen
Colin was also the youngest ever British boxer to go the Olympic Games in 1976
Colin was young British Boxer of the year in 1980
Colin and McCory fought two very close fights
And here is the key - Milton McCory leading up to the Colin Jones fight was the rising star of American boxing - he fought out the Kronk Gym - regualrly sparred with Thomas Hitman Hearns - and was undefeated - and knocking people out left right and centre - Colin got the better of him alot of times - he nearly stopped McCory in the second fight - but he held on and came back.
Also Colin fought a undefeated and prime pound for pound king Don Curry and was stopped on a cut.
Colin was never knocked out or counted out, or stopped - apart from a cut.
And of course he twice smashed out Kirkland Lang and then Lang went over to America and outclassed all time great Roberto Duran.
This reflects well on Colin.
In todays sport Colin would easily pick up a paper world title - his European title back then was worth far more than all these paper titles out there today.
Colin Jones would have knocked out Ricky Hatton up at welterweight too - there are lots who agree with me on this - and Hatton is considered world class.
Jones was not a fancy boxer or anything like that - but he had the grit and power to be a threat to any welterweight in the world including Sugar Ray Lenoard who opted to vacate his belt rather than fight Colin Jones. And acknowledged that Colin Jones was a threat because he was a excellent fighter

He vacated because his eye was half hanging out, hence he had quite an extended layoff period around that time before making his comebacks
It's a bit of a push to even infer he was in any way worried about Jones, when he goes on to fight Hagler, Hearns and Duran
The only fighter you could make a case for him ducking is Pryor, but I still don't buy it.

Thanks for the honest answer our man Flint, I respect that. As for Smith & Jones(hey isnt that comedy show?)well Smith is pal of mine here & Colin Jones? I must admit I know next to nothing about him. Not in a disrespectful way mind, I just tend to concentrate on scottish boxers of the past & present nowadays, & thats probably to the detriment of my overall love of the sport. I need to quell the nationalistic beast inside me a bit to be honest, cos I neglect too much elite level boxing nowadays, & topping up my overall knowledge of boxing.
Anyway Im waffling again! Yup, had a few sherrys watching the Baz Morrison fight, so Im extra chatty:patsch
Anyway, enough of my waffling already. You & Smith have your beef, its up to you two to sort it out. Maybe british ESB should elect an agony uncle to help sort out running feuds Jeremy Kyle style?(& we all know what poster reminds us of Jeremy Kyle folks;) )
However, Im glad to see you were only being a cunt about scottish fighters cos you were on a moral crusade, & as you played the pipes of peace Flint may I say that I dont honestly regard Calzaghe as an englander...
Joes pure welsh/italian. The man even said he would be supporting Italy over England a few years back, hes a celt. Theres no denying it:deal
Look. you caused such a stir here that the knives are well & truly out for you on brit ESB, but IMO you are only guilty of being a fiercely patriotic welshman
This thread has just went a bit crazy, & IMO it ends here. I bear no grudges towards you Flint, & thats that.
I say we give peace a chance on this thread.

Craig McEwan was mentioned earlier; this boy is doing his country proud:
Unbeaten middleweight Craig McEwan (11-0, 7 KOs) demolished Juan Sanchez (7-3, 3 KOs) with a right/left/right combination 1:35 into round three.
Just hope that Golden Boy are providing testing opposition - recent suggestions of carefully picked opposition refers. Nevertheless, after the Barry M fight, good for Scotland. (Thought Barry tried hard and should be proud of his efforts!)

Could be worse, Gorgeous George (Galloway) also headed a bid and there was some American zillionaire - richest man in Possil - also expressing interest. Whoever next... Don "I've always loved The Jags" King? Following the jags is like watching boxing: good days and bad ones. As the guy in The Office famously said: "Somedays you're the pigeon, others the statue". My heid's normally covered in shit! :!:
Has anyone mentioned Gary McArthur?
Have to confess I've never seen him fight but there was a fair bit of noise being made about him, gone a bit quiet though.
Anyone?

Bit of a farce the way he was treated to be honest.

My mothers scotish and i am always pleased to see a scotish fighter do well there is a lightheavy up in the highlands called sandy robb i spared the fella when i was boxing and im telling anyone out there he has the tools to be special. I believe he is currently inactive but seemed ambitious when i talked to him. Also he is a real humble blue collar type fella who has his feet on the ground the type of man that the scotish would pull for.

Hullo, not much of a poster maself, happy just reading peoples thoughts etc. Regarding Sandy Robb, i wil certainly vouch for his talent, from sparring(even though i rarely saw him mixing it up, happy to just save it for the fight) to appearing on shows along side him. etc .The last i knew he had broken his leg some time ago, hospital told him it wasn't then a week later he went back complaining of more pain, they said it was. Not sure if these r the facts.
In the Highlands we have done quite well regarding
scottish finalists ,not as many in recent years.
One year we had 4 finalists,3 winners, not bad for a gym with no ring :good

Im glad this thread got brought back up to be honest!
I said here years ago & suffered much derision when I said Ricky Burns would be a world champion, & whaddya know? Hes getting closer:smoke
Craig McEwan, a scottish superstar before long, never mind world champion.
& once Kenny Anderson recovers from injury? Expect BIG things.
For a nation of our size, as usual we are punching well above our weight.
& dont forget Paul Appleby, he aint finished just cos he was the victim of a dodgy stoppge by a bottle merchant ref in Northern Ireland.
Well, I have said my piece. Piss off & read something else.
aaah just joking you oversensitive cunts!

Is the Apples-Gatti comparison really so outlandish though? Applebey is a damn exciting fighter to watch, & has been in his fair share of classic tear-ups already. When you watch Apples, you know the kid is going to lay it all on the line. He doesnt do boring.

No doubt he's exciting - I felt his fight with Walsh last year was the domestic FOTY - but yeah, I do think comparing him to Gatti is outlandish. It certainly was at the time it was posted, and it still is now.
