View Full Version : Hopkins- Jones II?

First, let me start by saying that i dont think that RJJ is not the same fighter that he was 5 years ago, and is no longer an elite fighter. With that being said, i think I would be intriged to see this fight. Here are a couple of reason why this make sense both fighters:
For Jones:
1. Jones has already stated that he does not want to wait for Trinidad in January and wants a fight before that date, possible for October or november, and in the meantime can be against Hopkins for lets say mid- to late november.
2. It would be another shot for glory for Jones to fight and beat Bhop, since Bhop has been getting more attention and possibly positioning himself over Jones on many ATG lists.
For Bernard:
1. Revenge. Jones convincingly beat Hopkins years ago. Both went on to leave their mark on the sport, but Hopinks would love to get that win that has eluded him through out his career.
2. Legacy, if Hopkins can get that win that he has been craving all his career, although it would be late in their careers, Hopkins will get his due against people who point to that loss.
3. It would also fit into Bhops schedule to fight Jones en route to possibly getting a huge fight against Joe Calzaghe for next year!
For Both:
1. A sh*tload of money, and attention, we all know they love it, so why not!
Who wins and why?
These are just a few, any suggestions, comments?
Hopkins by brutal KO. Jones has a Glass Jaw.

I'm gonna be honest, and you can say it's bias if necessary. Jones is the only fighter I openly cheer for, but I try to stay objective.
If Hopkins beat Jones now, it would mean nothing in my eyes and I would give him little credit. He had an opportunity to fight Jones after he beat Trinidad and clearly priced himself out. Waiting 6 more years to fight a clearly depleted Jones, who is now just a shadow of himself...and lets be real here, Hopkins has aged better and clearly the better fighter now...isn't going to help raise his profile in my eyes. I think most people see it that way.

True, but the money and attention will be a motivating factor in making a second fight i believe. Also, Bhop doesnt see that way, a win would be a win in his eyes (hes crazy as a fox remember?) I guess an argument can be made that Jones was better as a younger fighter, but this fight would settle who was better as an older fighter. Cause Jones has been fighting in the highger weight divisions where the potential to get hurt is much greater than fighting at 160, or a smaller fighter in Wright.

I think Roy Jones would beat Bernard Hopkins. This fight should happen, history makes things exciting. Roy Jones was the only fighter to really outclass Bernard Hopkins in every department.
And he can do it again.

You know i think i might see Jones pull it out too, one thing bernard doesnt handle well is powerful guys with speed, e.i. Jones, Taylor.

Bernard Hopkins doesn’t do well against Counter punches, Roy Jones has trouble with counter punches aswell, but can deal with them better than Bernard Hopkins, Roy Jones is more destructive than Bernard Hopkins no question even now, its silly how people are counting him out. Because he has more speed, and still i say right now has more Power than Bernard Hopkins. Roy Jones when he applies it has a devasting Jab, and i would see this wining rounds, while Bernard Hopkins is fighting in spurts. Even now in 2007, that short burst of a combination that Roy Jones unleashed in his last fight, to get a knock down.
Still nobody can throw combinations like that, at Light Heavyweight, i repeat nobody!. Roy Jones just needs to maintain and execute more of them, flashes combinations.
And God help you when this happens!

If the fight did happen Id cheer for Roy Jones all the way but I wouldnt be putting any money on the guy, this is a very risky fight and hes already stated he doesnt want to fight him, Hopkins had the chance a few years ago and he blew it.

I don't know who would win, but it's definitely the best option for both of them right now.

Hopkins has SOMTHING left, to say the least...Jones is pathetic now, and would lose by a knockout between 8-10 in a fight with Hops, in my opinion.

And it still wouldnt be Hopkins fault that he could stay in the game longer than ol RJJR...But i agree still rofl

B-Hop, no doubt about it. Everybody knows that, including RJJ, which is why he's ducking the fight even though he's 4 years younger. Sad.

I think it's an interesting showdown, and I would pick Hopkins. In fact, I would pick Hopkins from 1997 or so onward if they had rematched.
Jones would beat Hopkins the same way he beat him the 1st time...with speed...neither are nowhere as fast as they were when they met over a decade ago, but Jones is still faster and Hopkins still doesn't have the power to stop him...116-112 Jones again
