Neither injury, however, is life threatening, according to Keith Kizer, the executive director of the Nevada Athletic Commission.
"Both were in very tough fights, but the good news on both guys is that the bleeds are very minimal," Kizer told ESPN.com. "It appears both guys suffered very minor subdural hematomas, but nothing life threatening. There shouldn't be any concern for future treatment or medication. They can both live full and healthy lives, but as far as being a boxer, they are probably done."
Larios, 30, was scheduled to be released from Valley Hospital on Sunday after spending the night for tests and observation.
Larios, a former junior featherweight world champion, has been in many hard-hitting fights during his 13-year professional career. Saturday night's was no different. He was knocked out in the 10th round by 21-year-old prodigy Jorge Linares of Venezuela in their vacant interim featherweight title bout.
Linares dominated the fight until dropping Larios (59-6-1, 37 KOs) with a left-right combination in the 10th round of their scheduled 12-rounder.
Eric Gomez, vice president of Golden Boy Promotions, told ESPN.com that Larios said he planned to retire after the fight before he even knew about the brain bleed.
"He said he was going to talk to his family, but probably retire," Gomez said. "[Manager Rafael] Mendoza said after the fight that he didn't want to see him fight anymore, either."

I'm not surprised, he didn't look right towards the end of the fight.I swear I told my boy, I think Larios had serious damage done.

Thank God they stopped the fight when Larios made it look like he was O.K(which he wasn't).

From a distance looked like premature stoppage but the referee did a good job probably saving his life.

Sometimes we forget about the cost to the guys in the ring of "great fights" The 2 undercards last night were blood baths. It is possible that 3 of the 4 fighters involved might not be the same ever again.

Exactly. These guys leave a part of themselves in the ring. Win or lose, they deserve our respect.

I really feel sorry for Larrios. But it's better for him to hang it up for good.

No noob, it's the little guys that were ALWAYS the most susceptible to brain trauma and death. Almost every boxing death in history was from a lower weight class because they take far more punishment and bigger beatings than heavyweights. This is why UFC is widely known to be far less dangerous than boxing because one punch to the jaw that knocks you out cold is far less dangerous than 12 rounds worth of continuous beating on the head over and over, which is what the guy's in the light weight classes experience in every single boxing match. Plus since they're small their activity is usually far greater because their bodies are lighter and have more stamina so instead of throwing say 20-30 punches a round and landing 10 of them like a heavyweight or middleweight might do, they throw hundreds and land in the dozens in every single round.
Lower weights truly are the saddest. They make the least money and take the most brain damage out of anyone.

DUMBEST POST :( WHAT A RETARD!!
it doesnt matter if you are heavy-weight or straw-weight.
if you fight like bhops then your chance of getting this kind of beating is nil. dahh.... you cling and run. nice style. got brain? :-(:-(

Didn't Ricky Hatton just break Castillo's ribs and which I imagine are more robust ribs than than those of the average joe but then a bigger guy can absorb more punishment? I believe that I read vessels get detached when the brain gets sloshed back & forth rather than directly where the punch occurs. A concussion though would probably be directly behind the punch.
This is actually an intersting subject that needs more discussion especially since two guys in one night were seriously injured.
What weight gloves and how many punches were landed?

i totally agree. 1 punch ko's will stun you for a while but repeated hard blows to the head will mess your brain up. and with all the adrenaline pumping during the fight, the boxers who take too much damage do not even realize the kind of trouble that they are in until after the fight.
there are a lot of fighters in the lower ranks who are too courageous for their own good. 1rd ko's look devastating on paper but they are seriously nothing compared to 12 round wars. and the lower weights indeed have more of these brutal fights such as somsak vs monshipour

Jorge Linares handed a very brutal beating towards Oscar Larios, Larios has a big heart as he had shown in the fight by constantly coming forward, he really looked unwell after the 6th or so round, I think his conner men should have pulled him out rather than the referee stop the fight, good decision made by the referee.
