View Full Version : Your favorite fighter's most embarrassing....

...moment.

Most of the greats have had them with the exception of Robinson and Marciano.

Hagler had his Leonard and Leonard had his Norris. Gomez had his Sanchez. Duran had his Hearns and Chavez had more than one occasion I'm sure he'd like to forget.

Tyson's was when he went down on the seat of his pants I thought and felt bad for him. I then knew he wasn't going to make it.

Any others come to mind? Please elaborate.

Marco Antonio Barrera's showing against Manny Pacquiao in their first fight. He was expected to win quite comfortable, but instead he was beaten to a pulp by a man who would later be considered the best fighter in the sport.

Jeff Lacy isn't a favourite fighter of mine, but the beating he took at the hands of Joe Calzaghe is worthy of a mention. He deserves a lot of credit for refusing to give up and standing toe to toe with Joe for the full 12 rounds, despite being hit flush, time and time again.

I wouldn't know where to begin with Duran.
* New Orleans.
* Laing.
* Hearns.
* Leonard III.
* Lawlor.
* That roly-poly guy who looked like Duran with the mullet in his mid-40s beating on freckle-faced kids on ESPN.
* the Joppy fight that never should have happened.

It never happened. Even Tito struggled.

Sweet Pea getting caught with as much snow as Alberto Tomba would need to ski down.:lol: I'd have to agree, considering no in-ring moments would strongly qualify.

I don't think Robinson's ever had an embarrassing loss. I'm talking about a loss that tarnishes your reputation.

I thought Mike looked rather dignified in that defeat the way he valiantly fought back. Buster's performance was so brilliant the way he styyed ahead of him that it tended to overshadow Mike's performance.

How was Hagler's loss to leonard embarrassing? He won it in my opinion

You could definitely say Marvin won but the bad part is how bad he looked and most people think Ray was responsible for it.

I almost forgot--Hector Camacho KO Ray Leonard :lol:

Well, it was embarrassing for Robinson to lose to a guy that lost his 4 last fights. This should have been a easy give me fight. In the long run, no lost tarnishes a greats reputation,
Ask Joe Louis, Jack Dempsey, or Ali. They all got over a lost and impove.

Bowe's against Coetzer was even better. Or worse, or whatever.

I don't really have a favorite fighter, but I'll pick a moment. Hopkins during the reading of the scorecards of his first fight with Jermain Taylor. Watch how ready for victory he is, and then watch his face change as Taylor's name is announced. I felt very bad for him.

As a Tyson fan, my list is long.

*The ear biting incident. More shocking than embarrasing at first, but the embarrasment came later.

*Appearing on a review panel for the first Holyfield fight and saying "I don't
remember" repeatedly throughout the show. (He claimed he didn't remember
the fight at all.)

*"I'm gonna eat your children."

*"I broke my back."

*"I'm going to fade into bolivian."

*"I'm going to make you kiss me with those big lips."

I won't even go on about his out of the ring exploits...

:oops:

Damn.

I just don't get it sometimes. I mean, I don't think he is an unintelligent guy because he can come across quite articulately sometimes and speaks well on occasion and then you get other times, like the above.
He's a walking contradiction.

Can't believe he would bring coke to court :patsch

Not nearly as bad as his girlfriend's 911 call which got put to air when Pea overdosed after the Bojorquez fight - which in and of itself was an embarassment.

Willard KO26 Johnson. Not so much the outcome given the different stages their careers both were at, but the statement afterwards:

Jack: "I threw the fight" :yep :oops:

Sugar Ray Leonard certainly won the fight on paper, but there is no embarrassment in losing to the greatest fighter of the 1980s anyhow. Even if that fighter was past his best, above his natural weight, and coming off a layoff. :good

I was a big fan of Marlon Starling. The time when Molinares hit him on the chin at the bell was scary. Starling dropped like he was dead, got up, the idiots interviewed him and he was like "what are you saying? I wasn't knocked out. He never even hit me." Meanwhile one eye was chasing squirrels.

Then Simon Brown fought -I think it was Pettway- and got knocked out on his back, completely unconscious, but it stil punching up into the air from a horizontal position. Scary stuff.

How embarrassing for two solid fighters...

Calzaghe getting dumped on his ass in the first against Hopkins.

I think Joe would agree that is his most embarrassing moment too. :-(
