Stop teasing him, he made it clear if he can't avoid a punch what could he do.
Anyway if you see it coming and protect your chin and body (kidney roll is not included as a defencive method) you 'll be OK.

well if you would think about it before jumping on me. you would realize hyour knuckles are weaker then the top your head so you would break there hand.

You're right. I'm stupid. Keep your head down and take every punch to the top of the head if possible.

um, yes.

You know amy, my boss once said that it was a good idea to take punches on the top of the head "because your cranium is the hardest part of your body, and you'll break their hand".

Hes also claimed he was a Navy SEAL sniper (shot 3 times), jumped motorcycles, fought Steven Segal in a bar fight and won, shot a rhinoceros, and survived a 4 story fall without a scratch... among other things.

So there.:blurp

Oh yeah, he heals extremely well, so you can't see the bullet scars.

the top of the head thing is an old school street fighting technique. the hardest part of ur head is the top part where u would head butt someone with or whatevr. its an old street fighting defense to put ur head down to thurt the guy. i would never use it in boxing but in a street fight its been used.

Little_Mac
07-27-2007, 12:23 AM
I'm not dissing you- don't take it personally. I've been reading this post to find out the same things you are because i don't know either.

It's just something tells me that if you have the time to react to a punch by taking it on the top of the head you should have the time to just.... move out of the way and not get hit at all. Maybe I'm wrong tho.

My boss really does say shit like that tho... like everyday... it's really annoying.

Slicknick56
07-27-2007, 12:26 AM
oh and to answer ur question the best way to take a punch if u have no other option is to try and roll with it. Alot of old school fighters were masters at this but i think Roberto Duran was one of the best. Today, Barrera is also great at it.

younghypnotiq

never hit the hip bone ful force so im good but elbow to. i like toblock shovel hooks with elbows especially in a street fight i broke some kids hand like that

i remember this south african guy who was RIPPED told me he used to fight with the wierdest stance in a street fight. i didnt believe him but he said he used to put his hands all the way up and behind his head so that only his elbows were sticking out in front of his face. Any shot to his face would be blocked by his elbows and before they could hit his body he would attack them. interesting technique but never seen it used.

younghypnotiq

ive seen thai fighters do that becuase they block bodyshots with there knees.

Yeah I read your post - it looks good thanks. I actually got a book from the library today about lifting (so I do it right:cool: ) and it's pretty interesting stuff. My dad has some old weights so I guess I'll get started tomorrow.

For some reason I still think it's best to just roll with punches in boxing (not fighting). Street fighting... Well then I could see the "Cranial Block Maneuver" working like a charm. :good

Put it this way, taking a punch to the top of the head is better then taking it straight on the face.

But you dont block punches to the top of your head , you roll head with them like James toney thus negating the power.

amy
07-27-2007, 02:10 PM
You guys do realize that having your head down in the amateurs is a foul right? Do it three times and you get a point taken. Or worse, you could get DQ'd.

Dude younghypnotic lol you train kickboxing, K-! style, Muay Thai AND now your taking up Savate LOL!

You do realize K-1 is all different styles(Muay Thai,Savate, Dutch MT) put into one format, it's not a fighting style.

I mean how did you find the time to train kickboxing and MuayThai enough to becomde profcient? And who with?

Let's not even go into the fact that you've also wrestled folkstyle and greco.

Duke Powerhand

BTW I have heard of using the top of your head but not in a boxing match, just street fighting.

Of course if you can't duck, bob slip or something the punch I suppose taking it on the top of the head is better than the face in any arena you fight in.

Yes, you tuck your chin and you brace yourself and try to move with it. It becomes natural after you've sparred and been hit enough in the ring.

The PAL traditionally has boxing in it, it's one of the oldest overall boxing programs out there. The PAL tournament in California is a national ranking tournament for USA Boxing.

I typicaly don't do anything if I'm going to get hit in the face. I usually just get hit in the face, or get hit on the side of the head. I know what I'm supposed to do, roll with the punch etc, but I just don't.

MagnificentMatt

I understand you were some kind of highschool jock with football and wrestling..

But its not going to help you in boxing, you dont have pads, the best way to take a punch is to just get hit, really you should try and improve on your instincts and get better defense. Because most of the time if your already in the match your not gonna remember to roll with punches, your just gonna get hit.
I use getting hit as somthing to tell me "wake up, this isnt good enough", and just psych me up some more..

Pretty much, theres no way you should take a hit, cause you shouldnt get hit. My opinion.
