Shame. And no opponent yet, obviously scouring flyweight for a non puncher.
Amir Khan ([Only registered and activated users can see links]******.tv/drill/indexboxers.php?page=boxers&id=9) has agreed a new multi fight deal with promoter Frank ******, it was confirmed today at a Manchester press conference.
Both the Commonwealth lightweight champion and ****** were present to promote Khan's next fight, which will take place at the MEN Arena, Manchester, on September 6.
Khan, 18-0 (14) will defend his Commonwealth lightweight title, although no opponent has yet been confirmed.
******, who has guided Khan since he turned professional in 2005, said: "We have agreed a new long term deal.
"I am extremely happy and delighted to contintue working with Amir, and we are both looking forward to the future.
"I have every confidence that Amir will become a world champion."
A new television contract for Khan, whose fights have previously been screened on ITV1, is expected to be confirmed next week.
Khan, 21, added: "Frank ****** is the best promoter out there, he looks after me and and he is going to take me to where I want to be."

You Never know it maybe a solid professional at lightweight. There again it could be a blown up super featherweight.

Maybe a fat straw weight or a midget FW saw at the circus.

isn't he fighting Gavin Rees?
Maybe... he fits the criteria ie he is fat, a midget and FW saw him at the circus. Never been a straw weight though.

Does Ivan Calderon have a twin brother somewhere?
No doubt Fwank will be on the buzzer if he does.........
In all seriousness, I think it could be Lee McAllister - followed by a serious diet to get down to 130. I know Frank is a twat, but he isn't stupid enough to put his main cash cow in with any of the champs at 135, whilst he isn't really 140 material currently.

Well Bobby did start at 148 - perhaps another 8lbs and we could have a new WBF lightwelter champ in Amir.

you think mcallister will risk his reputation as a 2 weight world champion to move back down to lightweight? :yikes

:patsch
i forgot lee mcallister was one of the greats of british boxing......
but in his great interview which jeff kindly provided he accused khan of ducking him and not showing any interest......
well i think bobby is rather big boned but crispy duck and pizza may do that to you :think

there was something a few weeks back, lee mcalister saying he was going to be a two weight world champ by winning the wbf light welter title, what a disgrase.
Ive heard Mitchell vs Burns is on the undercard.

I think ****** is the best promoter for him. ****** has done good by him. I'm happy with the fights he's taken except I'd like it if he faced Thaxton/Romanov. This way he faces fighter he is supposed to and they can both hit a bit.

i suppose frank is the market leader in getting guys to world titles, but they bypass the british title and euro title and face chumps which teach them nothing about fighting at the elite level, meaning they get exposed once they unify or have a superfight.

Suppose so, looking at it who else is there in terms of promoters in the UK ?
Hobson
Hennassy
and some regional players.

Dennis Hobson did a decent job with Hatton, and has done great with Clinton Woods, getting him some really big fights and keeping him in there, after the loss to Glen Johnson.
I don't feel he is really able to get a guy starting out and take him to the top though - but he would be fine with Khan. Great thing about Hobson is that he appears to give a damn about his fighters and is prepared to listen to them and get them the fights they want, whereas Frank ****** insists that they do as they are told.
I think everyone on here knows that I am a Hennessy hater - I feel he does nothing other than boost the ego of his fighters and gets them cheap publicity on the back of other British fighters that are more successful at that time, and when he speaks you can actually smell the bullshit through your speakers.
Maloney isn't bad though, in all departments.

Dunno......
It depends on the length of the deal agreed. ****** will only put guys in with decent opposition if they are on short term contracts - three year deals allow him to do as he likes. His father seems to be pretty smart as far as £££ are concerned so he will be aware of what Amir's earning potentials are. A multifight deal can mean anything from two fights to the remainder of one's career.
Put it this way - I would be willing to bet a fair amount of wedge that Khan will leave Sports Network at some point. He has too many people blowing smoke up his arse for him to bow down to Frankie.

At this point in time, it's probably a pretty good move for Khan.
He needs to stop trying to be world champ tomorrow, that way only lies a painful beating, and ******'s hyper-cautious approach is actually a good one for Khan at the moment.
If he can get a good trainer like Roach on board as well, he can have a few fights at UK and Euro level to adjust to the new training.
Khan's not even 22 yet, the mad rush to be champ seems foolish to me.

I think they going to go for Budy McGirt, the Khan gravy train will derail within the next year if that is the case.
BUT according to the BBC Khan is in the USA looking at 4 US trainers to pick one for himself.

******'s hyper-cautious approach is actually a good one for Khan at the moment.
It's more accident than design, but it's true nonetheless
If Khan does maybe 7 or 8 fights more with ****** before stepping up for a title shot in 2010 it'll do him no harm, he'll only be 23
And to be honest I'm not even convinced he'll be ready in 7 or 8 fights
The one thing he can't afford is ****** to let the oposition stagnate, for his age and number of bouts Khan's record is good. It just needs to steadily progress now.
Without the hyperbole and expectation levels we'd be much more excited about him... he's still a very good prospect.
Idiot this was his chance to sign for Golden Boy. Then again he would have got a title shot straight away which is not a good thing.
