The supposed date for this fight is September 20th so I'm surprised we haven't heard any official announcment yet with it being less than 12 weeks away.
Is it safe to assume that this isn't happening or not on this date at least?

Calzaghe probably saw Jones walking without his stick again & bottled it:-)

LOL.
Seriously though, it's got to be doubtful now I can't see either fighter taking much less than 12 weeks to prepare for the fight.
I guess it will be sometime in October as November is already packed with fights and events.

If it's in the States on that date he's gonna piss off a lot of fans.
How are they supposed to sort everything and save in less than 12 weeks??
Especially considering this is the second fight there this year.

Both guys hardly give a shit about this fight as a contest so why bother doing a full 12 weeks training?

Yeah it's certainly coming across that way.
I went out to Vegas for the Hopkins fight and loved it so vowed to go out there again if his last fight was in the states.
But the way I feel at the moment I'm more likely to go out there for the Hatton v Malignaggi fight.
The Pavlik fight would have been massive I think he's pissing a lot of his fans off by taking this fight instead.

Clazaghes legacy is forged against men well past it. Eubank, Hopkins and now Jones... Eubank rocked him to his boots, Hopkins floored him.... Maybe Jones will do that arms behind his back thing again.
What a great way to go out for him, fighting a living legend.

But a prime Kessler is probably his best win though even though he was way past his physical prime.
I believe people will see just how good that win was in a couple of years time when Kessler moves up to 175 after unifying 168.

I was more impresssed with the Lacy win but looks like Lacy has less chance of reclaiming his youthful vigour then Azumah Nelson.

It wouldn't be fair if Jones got credit for beating an old Calzaghe anyway. It would be written off as an anomaly.

I'm really hoping Jones pulls out of negotiations for this one and the Pavlik fight can then happen it would be massive.
i think this fight will be better than what most ppl will give it credit.

I'm not actually as bothered about the Pavlik fight now. I'd rather see him fight Abraham.

Pavlik isn't even the best in his own division right now. Or its not proven, at least.

Lazy looks terrible since that night I really think Calzaghe mentally ruined him especially after everyone was tipping Lacy to blow him away.

Abraham is minging though he makes Pavlik look slick..... Christ bring back Keith Holmes and Brenard... lol

Abraham is pretty refined until he actually punches.

Hopkins admitted he fought safety first in that fight because it was important for him to win & get the winner of Trinidad & Joppy. Surely even the biggest Bernard detractor can afford him that. He waited ages for that opportunity, King kept Bernard shut out for years keeping his two champs away from X.
I don't know if his biggest detractor can forgive him for fighting Robert Allen several hundred times
Pushing it a bit.

1NC & two UD's. So no more than JC fought Veit really. Plus Hopkins didn't blow him away in one round the first time like Joe.:D
Sidetracking before this turns into a row (lifes too short, plus I think TFFP knows me well enough by now to see when I'm kidding **mwah**) has anyone seen the first Hopkins Allen fight? It was a really good, even contest, then Mills Lane, in one of the most comical moments in boxing manages to push Nard out the ring!:scaredas:
Hopkins was clearly fucked but was so distrustful of "the system" he wanted to continue because he thought he'd lose his IBF title. Only after being assured he wouldn't did he accept the fight was over. Amazing.:nut

This fight proves boxers often don't know shit about their own sport. Calzaghe is dumb for thinking this fight is better than Pavlik. This is the sort of fight that proves fighters need promoters cos often promoting themself, they don't know what the fuck they are doing.

I'm not sure I agree with you there. Pavlik has done well but is being elevated above his actual achievements simply because he is exciting to watch. If you break it down, it's not like he has a deep resume & style wise I wouldn't say he matches up that well against Joe. If he was to beat him people would simply say he was an unproven, one dimensional fighter.
Yes maybe it would capture more imaginations but would it make more money? Probably not, and seeing as I think both fights would end with a Joe UD does the opponent really matter? We all know this is a pension fight for Joe.

Pension fight? That was supposed to be the last one. Before the fight a lot of hardened Calzaghe fans would have rather seen him face a live opponent like Dawson for example, then last legs 43 yr old Hopkins. Popkins was supposed to be Joe's big money pension fight.
Joe is supposed to be making up for lost time, making the telling fights, late on in his career: he gave us Lacy, Kessler... err... 43 yr old Hopkins... and that was your lot.
I think he beats Pavlik, but it would make a more exiting fight, then RJJ. The way he has dropped the idea like a stone does give me doubts that he would win comfortably though. I can't help but think Joe's seen something in Pavlik he doesn't like.
I just watched the start of Jones V Tito again and Jones threw so few punches in the first round it was shocking.
Unless RJJ proves some sort of stylistic nightmare, Joe just outworks him and wins by UD, easily.
For an elite fighter who's not far from his prime (if he's not still actually in his prime; debatable), this fights a crap match up and a bit of a joke.
