Nice post Sam. I don't know too much about the am's let alone the Olympic team but am interested to begin learning more. Who do you think is our best chance at the games?

I'd probly say Jarrod Fletcher and Daniel Beahan....

Daniel finished just outside the top 4 at the world championships last year which was the highest any Australian got...

and Jarrod won gold at the last Commonwealth games as well as gold at the Oceanic championships gold...

so without actually havin seen much of either guy or there competition based on there achivements on the world stage so far they stand out amongst the other aussies....

I got faith in all the boys and theres some good talent amongst them but honestly dont think Australia is goin to be on top of everyones list as the team to watch out for.

but all that aside i hope they all KO everyone and bring home several gold lol

Interesting, cheers for the heads up boys.

I guess boxing gets a little backgrounded when all the olympic hype is around, but it'd be good to see our fella's get some support, hopefully they give it a good crack.

Channel 10 were reporting on Jarrod Fletcher tonight and he pointed out the 50/50 factor in boxing and that you never know, thats the great thing about the sweet science. Good luck to all our lads.

watch out for Boyd, Kidd and Sutherland

yeah cant forget those boys!!

but for some reason (dont know why i've only ever seen him fight once) but i think Steve has a massive mountain in front of him if he wants to make it to the top... he's not even 18 yet and i just have this feelin that if he is matched against one of those russians or cubans or anyone of those guys who are like in there 20's and have had 100's of fights that he will be in for a tough time.....

im not doubtin his ability (he could be spectacular for all i know) just thinkin that due to his age that he is gonna struggle with some of the older guys out there......

but dont get me wrong i still got 100% faith that he has the goods to bring home the gold!!!

Can't wait for the olympics, im a big fan of amateur boxing. The 60kg weight division is gonna be very interesting, Tishenko and Gavin will probably meet again and the winner of that should get gold, also the WA lad Little has the height and reach to cause some problems. I think Todd Kidd is our best chance of a medal. Looking forward to watching Vodopyanov and Demetrius Andrade especially.

As an outside observer, I've heard good things about Jarrod Fletcher. I know he lost in a dual meet against Shawn Estrada of the USA, but Shawn has improved a lot and is a good boxer, and I think Australian Amateur boxing is disadvantage because of what I've heard are the age limits on how early you can start, etc. That and the qualifying region they advance through isn't the strongest and Australia is the best in the region, so they only get experience competing against peopkle on their level, or better, at international tournaments and duals.

Jarrod's the most solid medal chance IMO. He won the Commonwealth gold, and beat awkward pommy James Degale.
