what a brawl this would be! i like both guys, but duran by decision or ko if 15 rounds for me. duran was just to strong, powerful and skilled not to mention underrated defensively than jcc. not to mention jcc being a come forward fighter is taylor made for duran.

Style wise, Julio would be tailor made for Roberto. Quick boxers with lively legs always gave Duran trouble , but Chavez would wade right into Durans web.The fight would go the distance, but Robertos superior technical skills would prevail.

This would be a great fight! I don't hardly ever hear anyone talk about this match-up. You always hear people talk about Duran/Whitaker or Duran/Mayweather but not Duran/Chavez. Duran UD

I have long said that duran vs chavez would be 1 of my top 3-5 imaginary atg fights.

The top 2 latino fighters & both were in their prime as lwts (duran v dejesus & jcc v rosario.)

A sd sounds about right either way & the main reason I lean towards duran is because he has the greater 1 punch power... both can in-fight & longrange box if needed, both are relentless & super tough.

Duran is naturally the bigger guy & the power could win him a decision but as strong as duran was, NOBODY even decks let alone floors prime jcc, not even prime duran.

:good

yeah i wonderwhy no1 talks about this fight and it just popped into my head ,why it wasnt made?
most likely either promoter of the fighters didnt want it opposed to the fighters ducking each other because these 2 guys put todays boxers to shame!they would be totally OWNED! by duran or chavez, only a prime tszyu comes close imo.tszyu beat a shot chavez.

I think Duran has less chin that JCC.

how does a prime tszyu against prime chavez and duran fare?

a very good reason that this fight was never made is the fact that duran left 135 in 1978, and julio started his career in 1980.

the fight could still have been made with either fighter going up or down 5 pounds like the way mayweather jumps from division to division after the big money fights and duran chavez would surely have been a mega bucks fight no?

LOL....

The fight could not happen until 1984 Chavez weighed 130, Duran 154-160

By 1989 Chavez weighed 140, Duran 160-168

And after that Duran weighed at least 160, while Chavez only really made it up to 147.

Post 1995 the fight would of meant nothing. So how could the fight realistically happen?

no! duran had 70 fights before chavez had his first fight. besides the weight, duran is 11 years older than julio. this was not a realistic option by any stretch.

Duran wins, JCC is a bit overrated IMO.

Chavez used extremely educated Pressure, unhurried, he was like the tide coming in unstoppable, Duran on the other Hand was like a Flash Flood, so sudden torrents likely to wipe anything from his path,...

Of the two Chavez brings Contant excellance, but that constant excellance brings with it something else ! - a level predictability, which Duran would Exploit, Duran on the other Hand does not Offer Chavez that Same predictable Contant,...

Duran will stand off, and Flick Jabs, other Times he will Slip inside and Rake Chavez from body to Head, together with his Space Perception and Close range defensive skills, i think his Adrenilin Fuelled and instant alternation between Cold Heart Professionalism, and Hot Head Savegary would Ultimately disrupt the Constant Steadyness that Chavez Employs

If Chavez Backs off like he did against the Tough Rameriez he will find Duran is not a streight line plodder, If he Tries to Swamp him Like he Did Rosario Duran will not take solely Evasive Action...he will take Invasive Action too...

A very tough exciting fight, going the full route i am sure, But when Chavez looks deep into those Coal black Demonic Eyes of Duran, he will see a window to the Soul perhaps ...or a window to a dark dismal fistic purgatory to be unleashed...

Duran for me on points

totally agree with you area ,just look at the 1st chavez taylor fight
i mean taylor was putting the hurt on chavez for 11 rounds 2 minutes and 59 seconds then gets kod in the last seconds of the fight and stopped by richard steele,in my opinion it showed unbelievable resolve and courage
to come through all those taylor combinations to ko taylor ,plus if you look at the fight chavez doesnt have a mark on him after the fight thats totally off the hook man!!!!!!!
chavez was the toughest s.o.b in boxing period!:good

Here's the thing....

If both fighters were aware of who the other one was....

Duran would know that no one can go toe to toe with Chavez, so he wouldn't.

If Duran goes toe to toe, Chavez wins.

If Duran boxes, Duran wins.

Result....

Duran boxes, Duran wins a decision.

prime for prime Chavez stops Duran late in possibly the greatest fight ever...i've never seen Chavez on his butt in his prime, but Dejesus dropped Duran so i'd say Chavez had the better chin at their prime weights...and chin makes a huge difference because Chavez would've made Duran fight, as Duran was never a slickster even tho he had great skills...a toe-2-toe, back-and-forth brawl would've been the meal, and Chavez would've ate the most...

Now we are talking real deal fantasy fights...Duran was the better fighter. But I think Chavez body punching and power was a little bit better..Duran would outwork chavez in the FIGHT OF ALL FIGHTS IN HUMAN TIME..that is a dream one..

Damn I can't imagine what kind of slugfest this fight could have been. Both are in my all time favorite list but I'm picking Duran to sneak out a close decission . . . maybe a split decission.

Chavez had power..His uppercuts were no joke. He had a lot of one punch knockouts.?????

I disagree principally with everyone that says UD. These guys didn't clinch when they got up-close, they got busy. Chavez is one of my favorite fighters, and so is Duran, but I have to go with Roberto here for his combinations, ring guile, superior speed and work-rate. I also think Chavez has a smaller frame than Duran, which is unusual. I think everyone would be surprised at how dominant a performance this would be.

Chavez's advantages are chin and accuracy. I don't think it's enough.

Duran TKO 10.

And now that I think about it, Chavez has a better chin P4P, but I'm not sure Chavez would ever have withstood that bomb Iran Barkley laid on Duran. I'm still not quite sure how Duran managed it.

I think Chavez vs Pipino Cuevas is a better match-up, and a good microcosm for how this fight would go. Sure, Chavez boxes way better than Pipino but I believe Cuevas had the better punch. Would be a tough fight.

Well then do an English degree! That was terrible wording, and it cannot hide the fact that Chavez peaked at 130/135 and Duran peaked at 135/147....

Duran is bigger than Chavez he left 135lbs and went to 160lbs fighting big guys like Hagler,More,Barkley. Chavez best weight was 130-135 lbs
Duran was an animal he will eat anybody under 140 I always remember Marvin Hagler describing Duran's eye like two black charcoals this guy fought like a possed man I strongly recomends to watch him vs Ken Buchanan at 135 lbs.
