Julian jacksons punch was scary as hell.I saw that fight live on the box,was a huge graham fan back then, and he was winning easily, but damn you have to always be worried when in with a guy like jackson,he can knock you out with one bomb, like he did here.
I also wonder if the rocks extra little punch when hes half down would get him in trouble today, waht do you think?

you can see the flash at the moment of contactYeah, you're not the only one who's curious about that. (Somebody at ringside could tell from Ray's footwork that it was going to be one hell of a shot.) Maybe the photographer worked for a Chicago paper. As that was the city that match was held in, they might have an on-line image of that punch. Another possibility might be to hit the library for issues of SI, Time, Life or some other weekly magazine publication which might have carried sporting news for that week in 1957. (I haven't been to my local college library in a while, but when I go there, I'll be checking for it.)

i always remember when watching that fight over how close Jackson was to being topped himself due to the humongous swelling over his eye between rounds 3-4. The doctor literally says 'ill give him one more round' and he sparks graham. I thought he had killed him at the time.

I Always though Bob Fosters near decapitation of Mike quarry was amongst the best
Bobs KO of Dick Tiger was not bad either
Earnie Shavers leaving Jimmy Ellis flapping around the canvas like a fish on a boatdeck is memorable
Saad Muhammed's ko of Lottie Mwale was one of te best uppercuts ever
And Mike Spinks KO of Marvin Johnson was hard to Fault,
Reggie Johnson scored a Scary ko over Willie Guthrie in 1998 IBF lt heavy title fight
I guess its all down to opinions

TBooze - Yes Indeed, It looked like Mike had been shot, out before he hit the canvas, it is intersting to speculate how much it effected Jerry by the time he climbed into the ring ?, by then he knew Mike was ok, but for quite awhile there.........

From what I understand, Jerry did not know Mike's condition as he stepped into the ring.

Yuri Arbachakovs finishing right hand on Muangchai Kittikasem in their first bout was a great, perfectly timed punch. Kittikasem was getting ready to throw his right hand, but Yuri took a step back and caught him with his own right cross before Kittikasem could throw it and he was out before he hit the canvas. He landed face first on the mat, the referee could have counted to one hundred and iMuangchai would still have been laying face first on the canvas.

There's one that stands out to me.........
Vincent Pettway's KO over Simon Brown. A perfect, vicious left hook that not only put Brown unconscious on the canvas........Brown lay on his back continuing to parry and jab with his left into the empty air, totally unconscious. It was the most surreal, scary thing I ever saw in the ring.

Ricardo Lopez-Yamil Carabello (right hand over a low left glove)

Yes it was spooky...
Tommy Machine Gunn Duke Morrison did a similar thing post Mercer (another awesome KO), but he was up right and was ducking, diving and parrying the punches... Just five minutes too late I guess!;)

Bob Foster-Dick Tiger (hookercut)
If anything, the hook travelled downwards; there was no upward motion.
