Anyone have any idea how much he made over the course of his career? I really don't see his name brought up consistently alongside, say, Ali's... But I'm sure he made his fair share of money with King and their race to the mythical 100-0.

He made a lot, but was known to spend a lot, and probably King took quite a bit of it too (Chavez sued him for money taken from a cancelled fight or something).

Chavez had tax problems in Mexico, that is well known.

Sammy Fuentes: $500k for JCC, $30k for Fuentes
John Duplessis: $2 mil for JCC (very impressive for an undercard fight), $100k for Duplessis
Greg Haugen: PURSES - Haugen earned $1,000,000 from this fight. Chavez earned $2,500,000 as well as a deal to for $10,000,000 to fight Terry Norris (which never happened).
Joey Gamache: Chavez purse: $1.5 million (all of which went to the Mexican gov't for back taxes)
Kostya Tszyu: both made $1.25 mil
Ivan Robinson: $200k for Chavez, $60k for Robinson
