Marquez brothers: Are they the greatest boxing brothers in history?

They've both had some great accomplishments. Both are technically very good. Good wins on both resumes. Both in the upper echelons of their weight classes. Neither guy is an easy night for any fighter in their division. Are they best pair of pugilist brothers ever?


There are other brothers out there that have some good accomplishments. The Klitschkos, Spinx brothers, pacquiaos, and a whole shitload of others. Do the marquez brothers trump them?

They are both top ten pfp fighters, IMO. In ten years, people will look back on those two in awe. They are such precision boxer/punchers. Masters of their art.

IMO JMM is like a modern day Salvador Sanchez.

In peak/peak match ups, I have trouble picking anyone over JMM at 126, that says a lot. Rafa Marquez is a fine pugilist also.

While Michael Spinks is greater than either Marquez brother, both Rafael and J.M. are considerably ahead of Leon.

And the Klitschkos are pretty good heavyweights, but not on the level of the Marquez brothers. Wlad has more upside, but I still see the Marquez brothers going down in history in higher regard.

Michael is a great fighter and has great accomplishments. I think that both the Marquez brothers accomplishments outshine Leons accomplishments.

I'm talking about what both brothers have accomplished, not just one being great and the second one being decent or good.

I LOVE Raf marquez. I mean his powerful accurate punches are a thing of beauty I mean he got every punch in the book..left hook. Right cross uppercuts with either hand..Power in both hands and accuracy. I mean, he throws flawless punches with pop. The best jab in boxing to me..period.. I dont care.. Juan is the slicker better all around boxer. But Raf is the best offensive fighter in the game to me. His chin is shakey and his defense is a little suspect..but he is my favorite fighter to watch period..

Marquez Brothers, then Spinks, then Klits...

Klits have the benefit of a not too deep division in their era. Not their fault, but they've hit speedbumps along the way.

The Spinks acheived success in the amateur and professional ranks. Sure, You can find flaws in their respective careers, but gold medals and heavyweight titles in that era are hard to discount.

the penalosa brothers were good fighters. i even think that the younger is the best technical filipino fighter ever. but they are nowhere near the three brothers mentioned.

the marquez brothers are both in the top 10 p4p. that's something the penalosa's couldn't even dream of becoming

What about Khaosai and Khaokor Galaxy of Thailand. They are not only brothers. They are twins. I think they are better than the Klitchkos and the Spinks brothers. Maybe they are at par if not better than the Marquez brothers.

Marquez brothers are the best in terms of two brothers being that talented at the same time. Klitchkos are very good as well but not as well rounded and they usually enjoy a nice size advantage on their opponents and havent fought the same level of competition but that isnt their fault because they fight what is available.


There is a wide gap between leon and michael spinks in terms of talent. Other than a great amateur career and going 1-1 with Ali when parkinsons was begining, leon spink's pro career wasnt that great. A lot of guys have a brother that fought. Pac, Morales, Hatton, ect but usually one is way better than the other. JMM are probably the only ones that were both top ten p4p for a good while.

No Lt. Heavyweight in the history of the sport is moving up and faring well against a peak Tyson, especially at that stage of their careers.

I disagree that the Spinks brothers are the best tandem because Leon absolutely pales in comparison to his all time great brother. But Michael was better than either Rafael or Juan Manuel in his prime.
