Any truth to the rumour that Bob Foster is in the frame for the fight?

Fuck - we've already booked to NY.

That nearly happened to me for Hatton-Mayweather, booked the MGM in Vegas early to get a good price and then they started talking about putting the fight on at the Staples Centre in LA. I shit myself for a couple of weeks but it all panned out OK in the end.

Hatton and JC must use different travel agents, one wants to fight in Vegas and not NYC because its cheaper and the other wants to fight in NYC for the same reason.

In truth, both are about the same price.

One thing's for sure, there wouldn't be all this confusion if Frank ****** was in control. I miss him.

Calzaghe: "I can see no more fitting way to end my career than to go in with a great champion. "

It looks like poor old Archie Moore is going to get dug up to give Calzaghe a stiff test.....Calzaghe TKO 10

One of them is bullshitting. I'd say it's Calzaghe after reading the info that travel agent posted on here the other day.

TBH I don't buy that JC has "always wanted to fight at MSG", he's never stuck me as a fighter who was particulary interested in the heritage of the sport.

Neither is right. You can make the accommodation as cheap or as expensive as you want but hotels are generally more expensive in New York but flights are generally cheaper. Logistically, New York is a hell of a lot easier in terms of number of direct flights etc.

Vegas is more fun though.....

I don't think it's MSG he's interested in in general. But he always said that if he was going to fight in the States, he'd like it to be New York for the old Italian wops there.

He is a man full of contradictions......

In his book it states (not in as many words but the gist is)......

RJJ is shot, so why bother.

I wouldn't give up my WBO belt for a non-title fight, or to challenge for another belt.

So fellas - he fights Hoppy in a non-title fight, and then RJJ - the shot fighter.

Get over it.

It's done - this has been said a million times over. Calzaghe clearly has no appetite left for the game and is cashing in all his chips. You don't have to buy a ticket, hell you don't even need to watch it. See the fight for what it is and ignore it. Joe's hardly likely to say "don't bother getting flights across the pond because this is just a money fight for me - Roy is shot and the fight truthfully means nothing in the grand scheme of things".

Nah mate - my trip to Vegas was £850 (with £120 ticket), New york is £550 without.

All the ajoining flights to Vegas bump up the price.

I thought HBO insisted on MSG for the PPV promotion issues?

All the ajoining flights to Vegas bump up the price.

This is incorrect.

You pay to get to the destination, not how many flights it takes you.

Ray Hatton

"It's 99 per cent certain the fight will be at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas because Ricky wants it there for his fans.
"Tour companies have told us it would, on average, be £400 cheaper for fans flying over to America to have the fight in Vegas compared to New York.
"Hotel rooms and food are that much cheaper in Vegas and Ricky is very mindful of this, especially with the fight happening a month before Christmas.
"He really appreciates how much it costs his fans to come to America to support him and wants what's best for them.
"He did want to top the bill at the Garden but as he told us he has already fought there on the undercard of Naz and Kevin Kelly in 1997 so he has ticked that one off."

Joe Calzaghe

"I do not wish to fight again in Las Vegas if at all possible. We've been to Vegas, we beat Bernard Hopkins and it was a brilliant experience.
"It's a big ask for my fans to go all the way to Vegas as generally it involves connecting flights and isn't exactly an easy place to go to on a budget!
"But nothing is signed and sealed, obviously that would be impossible because I haven't even been in the country.
"My first choice is to fight in Cardiff at the Millennium Stadium, in front of my home supporters who I believe would fill the entire stadium. I can't be much clearer on that.
"A gate of 60,000 plus would be phenomenal for my last ever fight. Again, I can only repeat this really is it for me, I want to bow out at the top.
"My second choice is to fight at Madison Square Garden in New York, the Manhattan arena famed around the world as a venue of champions.
"It's been called the 'Mecca' of sport and it would be an honour to fight there.
"I have expressed my desire to fight in NYC for many years. I also think I would be very well received in the Big Apple.
"It is far easier, and a bit cheaper as well, to get to New York rather than Vegas. The flight is shorter and accommodation ranges in price to a bigger degree.
"If the date of September 20 turns out to be correct, it's also not set in stone, then of course I will be ready and in the best possible shape."

:huh

NY would be the obviously place to fight Pauli. It is odd why Hatton has chosen Vegas.

If Joe was so concerned about the fans, why did he fight Hopkins in Vegas?

I doubt NY was prepared to stump up the cash - besides, all of that was left to GBP to arrange.

Leaving ****** was a ridiculous choice, Joe Calzaghe has thrown away his top 2 ATG status by doing so.

I agree. Joe without Frank is like Cannon without Ball - it just won't be the same.

Roy Jones said the fight has been agreed

Madison Square Garden - New York - September 20th

all money generated for the fight will be split 50/50 between Joe and Roy

it's a final big cash in for both of them before they retire

this has got nothing to do with a real fight for boxing fans
