Could throw Hagler-Hearns into the mix.

Are we only talking superfights?

Or just big fights for boxing junkies?

I'd say either Sugar Ray Leonard-Thomas Hearns or Muhammad Ali-Joe Frazier

Trinidad/Vargas was money well spent.

Hagler - Leonard was also a very highly billed fight that lived up to the expectations....other than the fact I felt Hagler won....but thats another post for another time.

Was Trinidad and Vargas really hyped up?
That was a great fight.
Could be one of them.

recently i thought Marquez/Barrera lived up. i think there was about 1 or 2 clinches the whole time.

Morales/Pacman trilogy definitely.

Hagler-Hearns for me as well.

Trinidad-Vargas gets a place a bit lower on the list but decent here too.

Bowe-Holyfield 1 was no pushover either.

And who can forget Corrales-Castillo 1. Everyone expected a war but we got an instant-classic.

Hearns vs Hagler
Mayweather vs De La Hoya
Duran vs Leonard

Marnoff
07-24-2007, 12:54 AM
I enjoyed Mayweather - De La Hoya, but given the hype, it didn't live up to THAT.

TheGreatest-915
07-24-2007, 12:55 AM
The hype for ODLH Mayweather was better than the fight itself so i would not put up with these classics

it was better than most boxing fans expected

I think so also....most people trash it on here....but then again, most people trash anything that doesnt end in a KO here...so....

:hey

idk i thought Morales/Pacquiao I definitely did, and II as well was just as dramatic and brutal.

People use the excuse that it was better than expected..Still doesnt cut the mustard considering the hype surrounding the bout and the paychecks they received...

None of mayweathers fights to date have been classic..I quess being soo much better than his opponents is the 1 downfall..

Who would of thought that could be a downfall.lol

Gotta add Gatti-Ward. I'm a huge critic of the acclaim it receives since neither was an elite fighter, but as far as matchmaking goes, it delivered.

Lewis vs. Klitscko.

I don't remember any hype there, Klitschko took the fight on short notice and it turned out to be a great fight.

Maybe it was just me. I was damn hyped for that fight.

Maybe it was just me. I was damn hyped for that fight.

Me too. Most people expected to see Klitschko blown out of there within the first or second round but it was the fact that Klitschko stayed there and nearly won it that made this fight great and worth a rematch.

For this year it's Barrera-Marquez

Stewbear

A lot of good choices here, but the consummate example is Ali-Frazier I.Two undefeated champions, and a brutal slugfest that exceeded the hype.

LogDog69
07-24-2007, 08:12 AM
I can't really remember how much hype was involved but Jones/Tarver I had to have lived up to any hype or probably exceeded it. Just the fact that Jones was finally being tested made it a better fight than expected.

Was there really a lot of hype for Gatti-Ward, though?

I didn't think there was. Though my knowledge outside the HW ranks is always a bit weak.

Of the fights ive seen as they happened id go with DLH-Vargas they were both big names and Champions with big wins and dislike for each other fuck Vargas hated DLH. It was built as Bad Blood many people thought Vargas might be to big and powerful for Oscar and wear him down with that lefthook to the body and many thought Oscar was to fast and experienced. It turned out to be a back and forth action fight almost every round was a different guy got the momentum going his way with Vargas putting the pressure and getting Oscar near the ropes and using his strength and powerful punches then you had Oscar sticking out his stiff left jab and combination punching. Then it all ended in a brutal and dramatic 11th round TKO for Mr.Golden Boy as Jim Lampley creamed his pants.

It has to be Morales-Barrera III, the hype surrounding that fight was huge because of the previous 2 fights, and it was the best one of the 3.

The hype in this fight is not really big going in, MAB was just recently destroyed by Pac & considered to be shot. I don't even ordered it. I say it overwhelms the hype.

Mine is.

SRL-Hearns
SRL-Duran
Hagler- Hearns
Pac-Morales 1 & 2
Vasquez-Marquez 1 & 2 (Hyped by dieHard fans only)
Pavlik-Miranda(not a superfight by lived up to the hype)
Thrilla in Manila

Both Vazquez-Marquez fights far exceded their hype (which admittedly was hype on a miniscule scale compared to TWA, but for the level of general public name recognition these guys had beforehand - next to none - and for their weight class, they were relatively well hyped.)

EM vs MAB 3
Duran vs Leaonard 1
Chavez vs Taylor

This is without a doubt, the best fight I've seen. I was just a little kid when this fight happened, and still engrained in my mind. I will never forget this fight.
