When you think Philly, you think boxing. Why doesn't Smoking Joe have a statue in his honor?

That is some really sad shit. I really enjoy the town of Philly but I feel bad for it as well. All you have had over the years have been boxing legends and the people that can help the city embrace them won't do it. :-( When the last time your town won a team sports title? Your town is overdue.

What about how Detroit let Kronk shut down? That's bullshit.

You'd think Steward has a shitload of cash and could've kept it open easily... Detroit's losing some good things. Karmanos Cancer Center is moving and Farmer Jack's just shut down. Sucks... :-(

I'm still going to Wayne State, thus my career hasn't kicked it off yet, so I work at Krogers so FUCK FARMER JACK!! Were taking over!!! lol
But really, we have ebough problems in the city, we lost the name of one of our great theatres and the whole Kronk shit pisses me off. But we do have a lot of championships.

haha. I go to Wayne State too. I work over at Harper Hospital. It really PISSES me off that the only place I can get food at a supermarket is University Foods across from Manoogian. Everything's overpriced. $2.19 for a can of tuna fish... WTF?

At least downtown is kicking. Check out Cheli's or Harry's during the fall on Tuesday/Thursday nights. Tons of drunk college hoes... :yep

It's a crime that a fictional character has one and an actuall former heavyweight champion of the world doesn't.

I have never understood this.

I'm taking a French class at Manoog now. I'm supposed to be studying now for the 5:00 pm test I have but I'd rather do this. I'm glad to see the improvements downtown but it will be a while before it is a great downtown. It wasn't that long ago that is was completely blight but now there are a few decent spots.

You're 100% correct. We do deserve a championship(we haven't had one in a major sport since 1983). And we will get one in February of 2008 when the Eagles raise that Lombardi trophy. As far as why Rocky has a statue in this city and not Joe Fraizer? I have always asked myself this same question. I think it's because this city has a complex. Philadelphia is a big city, however a lot of people just think of it as a stop between New York and D.C. Rocky put Philadelphia in the spotlight. When people think of Rocky they think of Philly. Philadelphians relish the attention and therefore Rocky is revered. Personally, I think it's ridiculous that this city is so in love with a fictional character.

No he does not asshole. Your a fraud.

For 3 obvious reasons.

#1. Everyone in Philly know Joe does not live in Philly anymore, he lives in Delaware.

#2. Everyone in Philly knows that Joe is a millionaire and that Joe made a killing in real estate investments during the 70's and he still owns alot of real easte in eastern PA.

And THIS one is the MOST obvious of them all....

#3. Everyone in Philly knows the Joe Fraizer gym is a one story building, that is under bridge where the Amtrak and Septa Regional rail line runs, and there is no APARTMENT FLOOR.

There is no "Above his Gym", liar.:-(

And not to mention, the Joe Fraizer Gym has been closed for close to 10 years now.
Like I said, I live down the street. It's a 2 or 3 story building.

As of October 2006:

Fuck you buddy, the hell we don't desrve a championship(I'll admit though, the fans here are pretty fucked up). I've gone my whole life without seeing one of my teams win it all, just becasue a bunch of people here worship Rocky, doesn't mean we don't derserve championship. It's so fustrating. We have 4 fuckin teams. The law of averages would say we should've won at least 1 championship in the last 24 years. The Phillies in 93 and the Eagles in 04 should've definately got the job done.

it annoys me a little, especially when they give Ali a fuckin museum. And for what? sure he was one of the best ever, but frazier helped make him what he is. If frazier had made a stand about the war, he would just be labelled as another uppity ass ******, not a hero. So yeah when someone like him is just forgot about its a bit of a piss take.

Rocky Balboa fought 81 times finishing with a record of 57-23-1 (51 KO's). He made an amazing comeback attempt at 61 years old and gave the current heavyweight champion Mason Dixon hell after years of being away from the ring!!!! Who is going to compete with that????? We need a statue of Joe who?

Just check Rocky's credentials for yourself!

Matter of fact, they could place his staute on the parkway.

They should do one of Hopkins and Meldrick Taylor too, make the parkway into some kind of unofficial Philly Boxing HOF.

That would be awesome.

Joe Frazier has loads of children, they should look after him. Also would'nt you think Muhammad Ali would help him out, Joe Frazir helped him out back when Mu Hammad Ali was stripped of his title and boxing licence.

Because in Philly you have the most fucked up sport fans in the world...and they rather have a tribute to a mystical white character to represent the City of Brotherlly Love.....rather than with a man that exemplified the Philly school of boxing like Smokin' Joe Frazier....he just have to be happy with a cameo apperance on Rocky I
