after seeing him against krasniqi i can't believe many people think of him as the best US HW. krasniqi, for whatever reason, didn't want to fight. i heard he broke a rib in the 2nd round or whatever, maybe that explains that leaning against the ropes. he wasn't ready for war like against brewster. but thompsons performance was poor as well. he is tall and fights quite intelligently but that's about it. he uses his size for his advantage but his jab is more staggering, he can throw combinations but without much power. he just lacks of real talent and killer instinct. the sad thing is that there are not many other prospects. i think the problem is, that the physical talents are soaked up by other sports like football or basketball where there is a better chance to make a living. while in the former ussr boxing is a way out.

His hits look very weak and he looks very ordinary overall. i can't even picture him ever busting out something wicked. He could win some fights on points, but his chin will eventually be tested because his defense isnt great and once his opponent knows that he cannot be hurt by Thompson, they wont hesitate to fuck him up.

Hang about, who thinks he is?
He's doing well at the moment, but I still don't get a championship vibe from the guy.

The Albanian's performance against Thompson was a true shame. He just refused to fight back.Once a quitter, always a quitter.

I think it's sad that we're even talking about this guy like he's some kind of prospect.
He's 35

He's a boring, canny fighter...old, but quite awkward and a tricky fighter to go up against. Calvin Brock is the best American heavyweight, as mentioned above.

He started his boxing career at 30 years old, so he's not the typical past-his-prime 35 year old fighter.
About the American heavyweights, I think Brock is the best. The second best right now is Chris Byrd. Holyfield is the third, followed by Tony Thompson. I think Holyfield would beat Thompson. Then you have guys like Eddie Chambers and Chris Arreola, who are not yet in the Top10. Oh, and don't forget Hasim Rahman.

I agree, Brock is the best American heavyweight.
Kind of sad, considering his poor showing against Wlad.

We Americans claim no heavyweights as ours.
All of our would-be heavyweight champs are in the NFL and NBA.
Ray Lewis TKO 2 Wlad Klitschko... ;)

Aren't you a boxing fan? You have to be kidding :patsch
And I'm still not sold on the "they're playing other sports" argument, either.

And I'm still not sold on the "they're playing other sports" argument, either.me either. its sour grapes. good athletes were going into football and basketball at far higher rates than boxing 20 years ago.

This is right on the money - and it says alot about the sad state of American HW boxing.

Don't blame other sports on the lack of good prospects.... Most of the prospects from here have very little amateur experience, or are brought along too slow.... Or they do got good experience and just lack power.... Look at what we were left with...
Jason Estrada
Eddie Chambers
Chris Arreola
Alonzo Butler
Raphael Butler
Travis Walker
Mike Marrone
Malik Scott
Bolo Wills
Only 2 of them really excelled in the amateur system (Scott and Estrada)... About 4 of them spent lengthy time in the system... Thats the problem, none of these guys spend enough time there... And when they step up after 28-30 fights, they may get exposed and thats the end of them...
