View Full Version : top 5 people you want to see Mayweather fight...
And will you be mad if he doesnt fight any of them in his next fight?
my list
1 - Hatton
2 - Mosley
3 - Cotto
4 - Williams
5 - Margarito
these... imo... are the only names mayweather really needs to be concerned with if he wishes to continue fighting. And i pray to god that he does fight one of them, not so much williams or margarito, i dont care to see paul and him fight... nor margarito, but let hatton, cotto, and mayweather battle it out.
those three need to fight eachother!
EDIT - this was in 2007... i no longer care to see him vs williams at all, and put pac in the top 5 instead... my new list is
1 - Cotto
2 - Mosley
3 - Pac
4 - Margarito
5 - Clottey

I want to see him against Cotto, Hatton, or to a lesser extent, Mosley. I think he'll get less credit for Mosley simply because he's not prime, so it's not as big a fight for me since it will get downplayed if Floyd wins anyway.
Edit: The only way I would not be "disappointed" would be if he jumped to like Middleweight and fought someone like Taylor (though he's leaving Middleweight) in an attempt at Greatness. Not likely to happen, but it's the only other thing I would be really happy with.

1) Mosley (getting old, any longer and it wont be worth it)
2) Cotto
3) Hatton
4) Williams
5) Cintron
Margo didnt make it because he's a less skilled version of Cotto so if PBF can beat Cotto he can beat Margo.
ya...
seriously, it will be ridicoulas imo if cotto, hatton and mayweather finish their careers without fighting eachother. they are the three undefeated fighters each with their own huge following like none other around them besides hoya.
all are in the 140-147 range, all are undefeated, all are still young, all are prime, all have big fanbases.

1) Mosley (getting old, any longer and it wont be worth it)
2) Cotto
3) Hatton
4) Williams
5) Cintron

im just curious man, why cintron?
to me it just seems like people have forgotten that margarito destroyed cintron, and though cintron showed that he DOES have heart in the estrada fight, and won by stoppage, it too was a war somewhat...
margo in my mind will continue to be above cintron until cintron proves otherwise, and he hasnt done that for me imo.

I agree to a certain extent kirk, I just feel styles make fights and I don't think Cintron is the same fighter we saw mentally and emotionally break down vs Margo. I think Cintron starches Margo in a rematch.

I think PBF will only fight two more times and try and reach 40 wins. I would like to see him face Hatton then the Cotto/Mosley winner.

Miguel Cotto - I'd like to see how he does against the young lion. Cotto is strong, he hits hard, has good stamina and has the best body attack in the sport.
I could care less about the next 4. :yep
Agree on Cotto. Let the new young blood get inside a have a go.
It would be too awkward seeing the big Williams against PFM, I think. How on earth would PFM be able to escape Williams’ long arms? :bbb

Ya, the tale of the tape is really all I need to see for fight. I check out the physical stats and turn the television off. Long arms and height wins every fight.

My top 5:
1. Cotto - The two top welterweights. How can that not be everyone's #1? Dying to see if Floyd can handle the nonstop pressure and assault to the body?
2. Paul Williams - Mismatch nightmare for Floyd. Interested in seeing how Floyd responds to his physical disadvantages in this fight.
3. Mosley - About friggin time..
4. Spinks - Not really my style of fight.. but I think Spinks gives Floyd a lot of trouble and may even beat him at his own game.
5. Andre Berto - PBF vs an aggressive young lion with deadly KO power.. I'm all for that!

5. Muhammad Ali
If we are just talking active fighters:
1. Mosley
2. Hatton
3. Cotto
4. Williams
5. W. Klitschko
Yeah - I think that Floyd just would jump up and bite Klitschko in his knee - so easy win for Floyd. Interesting. :bbb

1. Hopkins - total fantasy fight I know but if Mayweather could get up to middle and Hopkins could get down it would be great
2. Mosley - super fast and very smart i think he could be mayweathers worst nightmare
4. Williams - his size could really annoy mayweather
5. Hatton - if hatton can get his hit and grab style to work he might give Mayweather a though night
3. Cotto - i really dont think cotto would win but it should be a good fight

This would not be a great fight. Nard would kick little Floyd's ass. One advantage Mayweather had over all his previous opponents was ring intelligence. He would not have this advantage over Nard. Nard would use his size and ring intelligence to totally befuddle Floyd. My prediction for this fantasy matchup, Nard UD 118-110. B-Hop is an ATG and they should give him back his P4P title.
I don't think at this stage that Margarito has a claim on this fight: perhaps we all just like a top 5 more than a top 4, but I think it really is the 4:
1 Mosley (the best claim imho to be better than Floyd at boxing)
2 Hatton (I think he'll lose, but I just think his smothering active style would be really good against Floyd's hanging back and pot-shotting)
3 Cotto (If a pure pressure fighter can beat him, then Miguel should be that fighter)
4 Williams (I think he's done enough to earn it, and with the right trainer, using his physique correctly he could give Floyd nightmares, it'd be all about the jab, but without this he'd lose: Floyd is a bit good...)

In order of how he should fight them . Asumeing he would retire after the fith fight and that he wins them all. (weight limit for fight)
1.Shane Mosley (147). Posibily the cloest thing to a Mayweather clone. Spared with Oscar De La Hoya for Mayweather fight.
2. Ricky Hatton (143-5) Hatton seemes to fight his best aginst the best (Kostya Tszyu & Jose Luis Castillo)
3. Winky Wright (154) Another tempory return to Jr. Middleweight.
4. Kermit Cintron (147) Cintron will upset Cotto to get a shot at Mayweather
5. Paul Williams (147) Willams hight or reach will give any welterweight problems.
6. (if he fights on) Alfonso Gomez (147).

personally i would love it to be
1. Cotto he deserves a shot at PBF.
2. Mosley
3. Cintron
4. Williams
5. Hatton last.
1. Cotto 2. Cotto. 3. Cotto. 4. Williams. 5. HattonSeriously Mosely won't beat Floyd or do that much for his legacy. Mosely has been beaten before and when floyd does it he will be written off as old anyway. Floyd is the better boxer of the two, and Shane won't be able to adapt. Floyd will win it off his jab. Cotto is the toughest fight right now for Mayweather as he applies EFFECTIVE pressure. He will throw to the body in combinations and unlike Oscar will do it constantly without relenting. Cotto by narrow UD. Williams would be a stylistic nightmare for Floyd due to his reach and punch output. Floyd would be forced to fight on the front foot more then ever before. While I think he can do it I can see him having big problems working him out. Hatton poses a tough fight if he holds all night, although personally I think floyd will counter punch and move all night long for a wide UD.

Call me crazy, but I would like to see Mayweather-Malignaggi at 140. I know Floyd would win, but it would be fun to see so much combined speed in the ring.

1) Cotto - I want to see the wrecking ball beat pretty boys face in. Cotto cuts off the ring extremely well so pretty boy will eventually get tracked down
2) Hatton - His style will give Floyd trouble and his "hugging" and other little quirks could throw Floyd off his game (unlikely though)
3) Paul Williams - Extremely athletic and wont run out of steam in later rounds. Physical nightmare for Floyd (but I still have Floyd winning at this stage in Williams career)
4) Mosley - I have Mosley last on my list of four because as people stated above - even if Floyd wins then everyone will grumble because Mosley is "past his prime".
To be honest I think the only person out of all these lists can beat PBF is Cotto. He is an amazing fighter entering his prime. I think he has the skill set to beat Floyd. As we all know there is no one out there who can beat PBF at his own game so I think it will take a constant pressure type who can cut off the ring that still posseses a boxer mentality (not a brawler) to beat up Floyd. While watching Cotto in his last few fights he looked a lot like Marvin Hagler to me. Anyone else ever catch that vibe or is it just me?

I've seen comparisons made to Julio Cesar Chavez, Edwin Rosario, and Marvin Hagler when it comes to Cotto, so no, you are not alone:good
Cotto
Hatton
Mosley
Williams
Cintron
1. Mosley - Before it's too late and meaningless
2. Cotto - Most closest match odds-wise probably. Cotto is ready for this and a victory for either of them is huge
3. Margarito - Just to put the nail into the Margaritosexuals' coffins
4. Williams - Interesting match stylewise and will mean more later when Williams is more proven
5. Hatton - Exciting matchup, but at 147 I think this is the easiest win for PBF
Cintron could be in here if he gets a big win against any of these 5 guys too.
If Floyd would win all of these matches, he could retire as a true great and be respected by all boxing fans. Then he could make a comeback when Andre Berto, Anthony Peterson, or somebody else rules 147 and get a chance to improve his legacy.

i fully agree. also, because there is so much to do, so many people to fight, i hope floyd won't accept (or maybe even demand) rematches before having faced all the other guys. and i think the rematch possibilities for all the mentioned, except for maybe margarito who will be totally outclassed definetely are there and may stand in the way of other great matchups to be made.

Correct. I've said for ages that this round robin needs to happen. They're the main fighters in what really constitutes as their era. The three together make their resumes better and bring excitement back into boxing.

I'm not sure I want to see Mayweather against anyone.
His last few fights have been awful.
The De La Hoya "fight" was a slow dance.

No thanks.
Stick-and-move has been replaced by a bit of light petting and "chase me around the ring". Metrosexuals.
They just wanna go home looking pretty and counting the dollars.
Someone tell 'em boxing's still a contact sport. Violence is good, yes ?
Well hes fought one person in my top 5... hopefully in the next year he will fight at least one other person fans want him to fight.
I think he should get more credit for that hatton win.... that was a called for fight and even though it wasnt in hattons weight class i still think its one of his better wins.

The reason why Williams is last is because I expect him to beat Pavlik and stay at middle or go up. If he decides to move down then he's #2 and Mosley goes #3. That would be a nightmare of a fight, I would like to see how Mayweather performs in that one and how he deals with Williams' size and activity.
