Promoter Oscar De La Hoya added: "If Bernard wants Calzaghe, then it's our duty to go make that fight."

Exciting stuff.

In all honesty I can't knock Joe nor can I knock Hopkins. Joe has proven himself as a great fighter in our era. I have never been a fan of his and I don't really rate him as this untouchable champion that many of his fans proclaim. His two biggest wins come from a washed up champ and a untested overhyped champ. I'm skeptical as to where I would place him on an ATG list....he might not even belong there. I guess its a matter of opinion and preference I'm sure in Europe his p4p the best with Hatton and the Klits but here in the states they are solid fighters with questionable resumes and or questionable hearts. That's what makes boxing great there are so many different factors involved it keeps the sport and its fans intense.

Love how Calzaghe said that after how lousy B Hop looked against Winky, there isn't much competition there anyway.

BoooYah!!! :yep

I gotta say, if this fight happens, I'd be really conflicted.

Hope it's a draw.

Who cares?

Hops dont need Joe, let him go fuck himself.

Yea, correct. He just needs a rematch with Winky. The world is crying for that to happen. :|

I think their career paths have been pretty similar but what Hopkins has done in the last few years has made him a truly great fighter. Calzaghe is headed down the same path but I doubt he can sustain it at the top level as long as Hopkins has done.

Joe can go fuck himself for all I'm concerned.

He needs Hops more than Hops needs him.

March 2008 Hopkins vs Calzaghe for the undisputed Super Middleweight Title. :good

I don't think Bernard's coming back down... I think if they fight at all, it would be at a catchweight. I just want to see Hops vs Calzaghe.. I don't care if no titles are on the line...

Well he was 170 for the Wright fight, so I can see him coming down 2 more pounds to capture another division.

Kessler beat Mundine, a better fighter than anyone Joe has EVER faced.

Rarely do i get abusive over the net, but you my good man, are a fucking imbecile.

With Calzaghe having the biggest fight of his career coming up, I'm not surprised at all that he made the remarks he did.
He should now drop the subject and not comment any further until after the Kessler fight. He's going to have his hands full with that and doesn't need to be stroking Hopkin's and De La Hoya's egos by engaging in a back and forth debate on whether him and Bernard will fight or not.

That sentence by there tells me you have never actualy watched a boxing match either amateur or professional.

Do everyone a favour and keep the shit fountaining out of your mouth for yourself, stupidiest post ever.

Not sure who would win this fight honestly. Joe's definitely the favorite, but you can't rule out Hopkins. Even at 42 years olds, he's still one of the smartest fighters out there. I'm sure most of you thought Winky was going to beat him.

In all honesty Joe needs Hopkins more than Hopkins needs Joe. If you think about it Hopkins will go down as the far greater fighter if their careers where to end today (there's now arguing that so I don't see why we are on that subject). So there goes that answer.....lets move on to a better subject like how the fight would go down if it materialized.:p

Nobody needs a boring fighter like Hopkins!

I would rather see a rematch between Kessler and Calzaghe, because I know it will be very entertaining.

Bernard "Continuesly Holding" Hopkins is boring and should retire right away.

I dont think Hopkins would do mutch for Joe's legacy, so I would rather see him face the man who've beaten hopkins 2x times (even tho it was close fights).

To me Joe is the most unbeatable fighter in boxing today (yes over mayweather). He's been ducked by more people than anyone else I can think of in the last 10 years and rightly so, if any boxer wanted to keep his 0 in the loss column. Now Joe is getting the big fights and will more than likely(again my opinion) beat kessler very convincingly. He will be on a higher Tier than Hopkins at that point in time and will be able to call the shots.

I didn’t know that fighters like Hopkins could sing? I’ve heard that Hopkins plans recording a romantic love song together with Hatton? Maybe it’s just an unfounded rumour. But the duet’s title song is called “Hold me in your arms tonight”. :huh

You see fellas, boxing brings out the most diverse of opinions, I totally disagree with this post yet it makes sense in some ways....ironic :think

Even if Joe beats Kessler he will not even be close to Hopkins tier....in terms of legacy I think Hopkins is light years ahead of Joe yet Joe is a solid fighter with great legacy as well.

1) Kessler won't beat Calzaghe. nothing Kessler has done has shown anywhere near the class he'd need to achieve this.

2) Joe doesn't need Hopkins, who if he beats him, will merely hear the chants of "too old, past it".

3) Why would roy jones be a reward? Roy couldn't cope with Joe now, it'd be a mess.

agreed......

Hopkins to me is someone who made his name off of blown up welterweights and an overrated Light heavy.....While i respect his accomplishments i have never really been a fan of his.......

As a boxing fan I find it almost impossible not to be a fan of Bhop. The man has given us great fights - I mean hes a clever fighter, dirty fighter, technical fighter and hes a fuckin warrior. And now hes old but still doing amazing!!

I honestly can't wait till Joe Calzaghe is KTFO. He beat Jeff Lacy... it was a good win. Joe Calzaghe is not a p4p top 5.

Before the Lacy fight, nobody outside of Wales give two shits about this guy.. now all you damn Brits claim you were on his bandwagon the whole time.. I'm crying bullshit on all you.. don't deny it.

Calzaghe, on the other hand, looked spectacular against Manfredo. His inside glove slaps were of world quality.

Calzaghe should fight the winner of Taylor-Pavlik, if he beats Taylor or Pavlik he can say conversely he beat the man that beat the man. Plus he gets credit because both fighters are young.

And why is that?

I think that was a pretty solid post by VIP...I'm a Calzaghe fan and I don't think Joe's going to be fighting in 8 years mainly because of his hands. I think he'll have another 2 years or so at the top, and then he'll retire. Also, Calzaghe hasn't taken a ton of punishment over the course of his career. I don't think he's going to risk having a Roy Jones-esque fall from grace (especially by health standards) by fighting for too long after he's past it.

I like to play devil's advocate with Hopkins because his fans are so die-hard, but I can't question his longevity. For the fight, though, I don't think that'd help him against a guy with Calzaghe's workrate and defense. You're going to have to throw combos to score on Joe, and I don't think Hopkins will/can let his hands go like that anymore for a 12 round fight.

Joe says this is his last fight at supermiddle, so were is he going to go??? Middleweight??? NOT likely. Cruiserweight?? even more unlikely. UMMM whats left??? Oh yeah Lt heavyweight. WHo is the king of the ring at lt Heavy??? Thats right Mr hopkins, which means that Joe isnt in a position to call the shots:good

Mundine is a 168pd fake version of floyd..he tries the quick on his feet with gloves low method counter punch style..but he dont have defense...
