its uploading right now, he was a bit wild in the early going, once I told him to "Cut that sloppy shit out" he threw a perfect four punch combo that knocked this kid the fuck out, I have been working as a trainer for 2 years I started to work as a assist about three years ago. ill post it in the training forum when its up.
Thanks

Great job, Bazooka. Congrats to you and the kid.
Thank you, I am so fucking happy I cant even describe how I feel right now, this kid though he started to fall into that sloppy shit he made one correction and it paid off for him, he trained his ass off each and every day and now he has learned some very important lessons, you cant look for the knock out and you have to be paitent you cant take short cuts on your road work he was six pounds lighter for this fight (his 2nd) than he was for his last fight of which he was winning but ran out of gas.
Thank you so much all of you, honestly i had the pre fight jitters myself I actually had to have my wife keep him at our friends home until the Dr showed up for the fight I was getting pretty cranky myself.
it all paid off in the end though.:bbb

Looks like the kid learned from that earlier loss, which is a good sign. It's also a good sign that he took his conditioning seriously and was six pounds lighter for this bout.
Keep up the good work. Not being a trainer myself, I can't imagine what it must be like to watch a fighter I've trained step into the ring.

its hard, especially when you have worked with them for 18 months, you get to know them, their family, infact three days before the fight I met his grandparents his grandfather was telling me that this isnt the life he wanted his grandson to have he wants him in school, which he is and education is first Boxing does not promise anybody anything.
But it made it harder on me to have that kind of added pressure before the fight from his entire family.

Thanks and there should be, Today when he comes back to the gym I am going to let him know that his next fight is not going to be as easy, its going to be a war, and if he isnt ready he will be the one knocked out.
I dont want this to go to his head, yes I want him to feel good about himself but I want him to realize that there is going to be a man in front of him that knows how to box, this kid looked to knock my kid out and you know what happens when you do that.

Right on!! Not only might they box better, but he's gonna run across another Pit Bull a long the way that will have REAL HEART and keep coming, not wanting to quit once tagged.Id also keep stressing the conditioning as well, because that's what will help carry him through, when the going does get tough. You and I both know that no matter who you are, it will! If you keep climbing through those ropes.
Keep up the good work, my man:good :bbb :bbb

There is no way that I am going to allow him to let this get to his head, I mean of course it will it has to, but I will stress to him every day that he will be in a dog fight the next time out, he loves it that way in the gym though, he prefers a war, he gets pissed when sparring partners start to fold, so I am planning on keeping him that way, it just works for him, I have also figured him out, the way he works mentally.
The last fight, I stayed calm spoke normally, that didnt work, all through training all through sparring, I basicly had to tell him, to go out there and work his fucking ass off, or there isnt going to be a fight.
he is that kind of fighter you have to pump him up. The man who helped me assist, is his old Baseball coach from when he was 13 he told me that is the way I had to do it when he played baseball, this trainer Joe is from Hollenback boxing and he currently trains Angel Bojado the little brother of Fransico Bojado, he won his fight just before ours by way of second round TKO.

How tall is your boxer?
about 5'7 maybe 5'8 we had him weighed on a Tanita scale for a BMI prior to the fight and you have to take his height and input how many cm's he is and he is 160 cm so if you could figure it out that would be great, but its not about how tall its about what he is made of.

Thats pretty short for a middleweight.
Is it possible for him to drop down weight or is that as low as he can go without damaging his performances?

That is a good question, when he came to the gym he use to play football, so he was 195 I didnt want to push too much for those reasons, but I really think if we work hard and smart he can come down a little more, either way even at 150 those guys will be taller than him so his height though it looks like a disadvantage we turn it into an advantage for us as long as we fight our fight.
But yeah I think we are going to push the limit test the waters if he looks flat in the gym we will know.

160cm is 5'3.
Unless he has astonishing knockout power he will have great trouble outboxing alot of opponents, especially ones that are above 6 foot.

154 would be better for his height on the average. Most of the taller fighters in that range wil be the 5,10, 5,11 type, but hell these days, you find heighth everywhere, look at the 6,1 Paul Williams at 47, Pavlik and Taylor are in that range as well.
I think he's better suited at Jr. Middle just on appearance but how comfortably he can maintain that weight and how strong he is at that weight are factors to be assesed.
It aint the size of the DOG its the size of that FIGHT in the DOG and as you point out he's a little short either way, so when facing thos tall opponents he's gonna have to force his fight to win. That's also why being well conditioned is a big factor for him. He's gonna need as much energy as he can summon when chasing and cutting off on those types of opponents:good

here is the kicker welter weight is 150-159 in the amatures so 154 really wont make a big difference other than he might have a bit more juice, he looked good to me here, honestly we did a few things different this time out, I had a place for him to be so he wasnt there all day waiting, when we warmed up it wasnt for four rounds as it is in the gym, we just warmed up about two rounds just before we got in the ring really light.
he was ready, clearly he was, the sloppy shit pissed me off but he straightend it out and won.

Thanks for the kind words, I dont consider myself a great trainer, not until I actually do something big in the sport, but I do give 100% to each of them when I am in the gym, I do not allow them to fuck off there, they know when they get in what is expected of them no bullshitting no chit chatting its all work until its time to leave.

Looking long term on the 54:D I fought Amateur at 56 and there's the 3lb swing. WW was up to 49.
No doubt he looked good and like I said how he feels strength wise and how much he has to kill himself to maintain a weight would take priority.

Not bad for his second fight, although he looked a little bit flustered with the other guy rushing him like that, almost just dropped his stance and lowered his head hoping not to get hit, other guy was wide open.
But I'm sure you'll fix him up.
As I said, he was being sloppy early, once I told him to cut that shit out, he threw the combonation we had worked on in our last sparring session on Saturday with Oliver, who is about the same height as the kid he fought.
its normal to be off when your still new

Watch his legs all the way to the end of the fight even when he comes to our corner after the fight, he was on queer street and yes its much different in the amatures.
However watch his legs they were gone Look at his eyes in this shot

Oh I know they would have been jumping up and down like crazy, and Matthew should know that as well. I felt bad for the kid becuase his corner were fucking idiots like I said they would have allowed him to continue like that had the ref not stopped it, they didnt even bring a bag of ice which is required per the rules according to USA boxing.

He looks afraid of being hit, hence just dropping what he knows and trying to hide himself - I'd suggest getting him in there with a sharp jabber, just to get him used to being hit, working to evade/slip the jab and getting used to the "Game Time" situation.
Combination, looked good - but the other guy was always wide open to any form of overhand or hook.
All in all, for his second fight - you can't complain
Exactly, he isnt scared to be hit though he just trys to get away from the right hand and load up his, which is why he looked sloppy early once he stopped that shit he won.

How much sparring you get him into..? I always found that as much shadow boxing, mitt training and bag work I did - nothing beat having leather being pushed into my face by another fighter.
Yet some fighters prefer not to do much sparring at all.
I spar him three times a week no more, towards this fight I cut down the sparring in the last week, we would spar yes but we would work on specifics that combo that scored the knock out is exactly what we worked on in sparring saturday before the fight.
but three times a week is plenty of sparring no more, we do 4-6 three minute rounds with speedy guys and heavier guys so he learns how to deal with guys who have speed and guys who pressure you who can punch.
That was the only real knock out of the card, the rest were stopped by the ref standard TKO shit, but this was the only fight that someone was on their ass, He got three trophies one for the fight, one for knock out of the night and another for fighter of the night.
