Laila Ali, obviously. Fighters did not know how to punch before Klitschko invented the technique.

Or in Greb's time, Ali by decision.

He's not going to rough her up and spoil his chances of romancing her.

He would be DQ'd for excessive clinching.

I thought it was Tyson.
Tyson invented the concept of punching, but it was Klitschko who invented all of the "formal" punches--jab, cross, uppercut, etc. They were part of his overall invention of "skill". When combined with Lennox Lewis's invention of "size", he cleared the way for the big, skilled heavyweights of today.

Greb was famous for the use of his thumb. After 15 rounds with Laila, that thumb would smell heavenly.

Ali easily,as far to many people seem to think greb is just a damn myth or legend, and that he fought like he looked in that funny training youtube clip.

It's incredible how people can undermine a man of Greb's size that competed with heavyweights. Even if you claim somehow most of the heavyweights were simply no good, it's still a tall order. I wouldn't give many middleweight champs a shot at a top 50 heavyweight during any time-period.

He was never in one spot for more than half a second, all my punches were aimed and timed properly but they always wound up hitting empty air. He'd jump in and out, slamming me with a left and whirling me around with his right or the other way around. My arms were plastered with leather and although I jabbed, hooked and crossed, it was like fighting an octopus.
Former boxing great Gene Tunney ([Only registered and activated users can see links])[[3] ([Only registered and activated users can see links])] Greb gave me a terrible whipping. My jaw was swollen from the right temple down the cheek, along the chin and part way up the other side. The referee, the ring itself, was full of my blood. If boxing was afflicted with the commission doctors that we have now, the first fight probably would have been stopped and no one would have heard of me today.

If you think that Greb was an all time great, well, you are right.

If you think that you can analyze his style with no video, you are wrong.

I could say Ali all day long, and you could not prove me wrong with any kind of footage. You could say he has defeated so and so, you can say he has a record of this; but you can't say how he handled a jab. You can only say he handled people that could jab.

Greb's record is great, and proves Greb is great. It proves nothing for, or against, head to head.

That does it.

We've officially run out of things to talk about on ESB. Time to move on to stamp collecting I guess.
