OPPONENT NAMED FOR SALITA

Jerry Glick reporting: Former Commonwealth champion Willie Limond will face undefeated Dmitriy Salita on the undercard of Roy Jones vs. Joe Calzaghe at Madison Square Garden, New York on September 20, 2008.

This will be Salita’s first bout under the Square Ring banner. Salita recently signed a three-fight deal with Jones’ promotional company.

“I am very excited to be on this card,” said Salita. “And I will put on a sensational performance. This is a great opportunity; Limond is a tough customer but I will be in great shape and put on a show for the fans in New York and around the world.”

Salita 28-0-1 (16) had hoped for a title shot but it did not materialize. WBA junior welterweight world champion Andreas Kotelnik did not take up Salita’s challenge.

Salita is nevertheless looking forward to Limond 29-2 (8) with confidence.

“I will knock him out,” added Salita. "He will challenge me which will make me put on a great performance. I can’t wait!"

& it has to be said, I bet Hattons influence was a major factor in Limond taking the fight, I have to give credit where its due.

Serious chance for Limond to make a name for himself now, and he's more than capable of doing it against Salita .

Calzaghe v Jones just became a whole lot more interesting for me .

Yeah, he was once upon a time, but put on a bit size lately. I must say Wullie has a chance against Salita, if you look at the guys record he's been on his arse a few times, fair enough he's got up to win, but still. Have a look through his record, he was down twice against Montano, and Montano is a complete powderpuff puncher, one KO on his record!! They're taking Wullie as an easy touch, but the wee man has improved a lot since his Alex Arthur days, I give him a good chance of pulling this off. Gaun yursell Wull:good Scotlands behind you:good And hopefully some of the english guys anaw;)

Is this the first time the British forum has unanimously got behind a fighter ?

Probably is during my time on the brit forum. Quite an accomplishment as most fighters divide opinion on here.

Limond really is worthy of our support. He is a good honest pro and I'd love to see him shine in this one - its a great opportunity and if he does well I hope he gets the rewards he deserves.

i think every one wants willie to come through with a win weather he does so or not remains uncertain, this salita guy is probrably a bigger puncher then khan and arthur

I wish the best for him, but seriously, why is this not someone like Jennings getting this fight?

I'm with the others on this one, what a chance for the wee man. As I've said before, I thought the ref was kind to Khan in their fight (I know he got up aff his arse and did the business); but what a chance and hopefully a golden payday... with the possibility of many more! Good to also see a home fighter gracing the big stage. I think the Yanks will like his tidy style and hopefully the extra bulk will give him a better punch!

So, "Gaun yirsel' Wullie!!"

Honestly wouldn't be suprised if you won.

Khans got the talent and amateur pedigree to trump Salita and you gave him a good go. Salita is suspect.

Is willie limond possibly the most loved boxer on esb? Nobody seems to have a bad word to say about him.
