khan has been involved in many stupid statements recently, thats made him come across as an arrogant arse hole, i'm kinda neutral on khan as far as boxing is concerned however 1 thing that gets to me is his fake personality, since hes turned pro he's increasingly made himself to be some kind of cock, i dont think his recent statements are a true reflection of his behaviour, khan strikes me as a straight forward, quiet and shy young man, when he trys to emulate naseem hamad he becomes more hated. He needs to understand that he doesn’t need to be world champion before his 21st, he can still be a respected boxer even if he doesnt win the world title. I personally believe theres alot of pressure on him due to the audience he's representing i.e. muslim/asian community, unfortunately in british boxing as well as boxing in general we have few well known muslim/asian figures, i guess alot of people think that khan may be there only hope to draw the bridge between muslims and other ethnic groups in England and other parts of the world. This may explain part of the moronic bravado by Mr.Khan

What comments are you talking about?
He looks to be the same guy but has a few outbursts like any human being would and has.

I'm of Asian Musilm decent as well. You talk of his fake personality and judge him without any specific instances. I've been a fan of boxing long before Khan came on the scene. Seriously man! Why do you feel hes being fake? Is not allowed to have some personality flaws. Is not allowed to have an ambition to be a world champ by 21? He believes in himself and theres nothing fake about that. Every boxer has a dream and hes letting it be known. Thats his desire and dream...even if none of us believe he can accomplish it. Where is the problem ?

I'm intrigued by his brother, I too think he may overcome him. I've seen some amateur stuff from him and he looks like he could take to the pros better. He can be quite physical.

Khan should be careful whom he pretends to be, because you are what you pretend to be.

I mean the way you act is the way you are. People can't put on masks; they can only change their faces. If Khan acts like an arrogant git, then that is how he is. There is nothing more to a human soul that what someone does between birth and the earth.

Oh, I see...the second option then. Well...true and not true. I am also a believer in authenticity. But that doesn't mean that actors always end up like the characters they portray...does it? Khan I believe is a rather shy person who overcompensates by acting arrogantly from time to time. If he were more emotionally secure, he would not. But part of it is an act. He wants to model himself to a certain extent on NH's persona. It doesn't suit him, though.

No, although there is a psychological theory that people have a tendancy to believe their own lies if they tell them for long enough. What is true is that, when Khan is being a tit, that's what he is. If he's a tit on the inside or not doesn't matter; what he is is what he is. An actor playing MacBeth is an actor playing MacBeth rather than an actor playing Hamlet; a boxer who acts in an arrogant manner rather than a dignified manner is a boxer who is acting in an arrogant manner.

Of course it does. What is an arrogant person if it's not someone who behaves in an arrogant way? :huh

Pro boxers put on an act! That doesn't mean they're arrogant! Not more anyway than if they acted respectfully, as they're sometimes trained to act in the amateur ranks.

lad puts his head on the block by saying he'll be world champion by 21 etc. takes some bottle because it gives him so much further to fall. the easiest psychological trick in the book is not being seen to be trying. if one fails one can always fall back on the excuse that they didn't really try hard enough rather than any lack of ability. fuck knows i do this all the time..

yeah...I agree it takes guts. But the reason why he said it IN HIS POSITION, is because he's immature...he's no Boris Becker!

Of course some people put on an act. They are how they act; that is what they are. Joe Louis may have been a cocky tit inside (for the purposes of argument, anyway) but because he acted in a respectful and humble manner, he was a dignified person. Naseem Hamed may be Mother Teresa inside, but that doesn't make him a dignified person.
But here's the thing though: a truly arrogant person cannot act humbly and a truly humble person cannot act arrogantly. Most people are a bit of both and behave as such.

Faisal,
I disagree with your statement that Amir Khan feels pressure from the muslim community. I believe he may be getting caught up in the hype and BS which the British press makes of him.
If Khan thinks he can still become a world champion by they age of 21 then best of luck to the lad. Personally I believe despite his exceptional talent he stands no chance of acheiving this goal. He's too inexperienced, simply isn't strong enough, lacks the stamina to go the distance and cannot take a punch.

John :good
