Alex Arthur has put his ambitions of winning an Oscar on hold - to concentrate on his upcoming fight against Nicky Cook.

Edinburgh star Arthur will make the first defence of his WBO World Super-Featherweight title at the M.E.N Arena on September 6 that also features Commonwealth Lightweight Champion Amir Khan.

And because of the fight, Arthur has abandoned his acting debut, which would have seen him star in Viking epic, Valhalla Rising, alongside acclaimed Danish star, Mads Mikkelsen.

Mikkelsen is familiar to film fans haveing played James Bond villain Le Chiffre in Casino Royale.

"I'm disapointed that I won't be in the film, but boxing comes first and there will be further opportunities down the line," said Arthur, who has long expressed an interest in becoming a film star.

"As well as wanting to become a three weight world champion, which I believe I'm well on course to achieving, I also want to win an Oscar as well."

3 weight world champion or oscar, which the most likely to happen??    :nut

Not a bad little story. Not sure which ambition he will acheive first though.

Add to the fact that he blows more hot air than a balloon and doesnt have the talent to back up his big talk most here have lost interest in him. If i had a prime Scott Harrison and Arthur infront of me i know who my money would be on. And you can bet your bottom dollar most here would choose Harrison who achieved far more in his short career than AA will ever achieve. Currently he has about as much credibilit as Amir Khan.

The beef is that he says things like he wants to become a three weight world champion!! I know everyone needs to have thier own ambitions but ... come on Alex :patsch
Unless he was testing his acting abilities and performing as Pac Man :yep

Thanks to all who reponded. I agree with the Scott Harrison comment and I was great fan of Gomez in his prime. However, you have to give credit to the fact that - like it or not - Arthur is still plying his trade and picking up some nice, if not truly top level, paydays. Some of you guys would rather he was was blasted into oblivion. Face facts, his handlers are happy for him to reign in the alphabet divisions... and why not?

The Gomez fight probably wasn't a fluke as this guy was capable of upsetting many a good fighter. Some even kept well clear. Arthur at the time I seem to recall was with Freddie Roach - who didn't appear in his corner. We'll never know why he wasn't there or if this mentally unsettled the fighter; he seems, shall we say, spiritual. But, bottom line, the best pro on the night won.

In terms of retaining his version of the title, if not Alex Arthur it will be someone else - and probably someone who'll then refuse to leave whatever part of Europe they're from!
