Listen
Bernard Hopkins came out of retirement to fight, and to fight the best fighters in the sport. Joe Clazaghe is the most prolific super middle in the world today and one of the most consistent super middle weights in history. Joe Calzaghe is ducking no one, all this talk of. "Oh Bernard Hopkins doesn’t need Joe Calzaghe, is totally bullshit, it is f*ucking sh*t". This is a sport where the best fight the best, like warriors. It is not a Hollywood red carpet, this is the fight game, it is not a Walt Disney film. And if Bernard Hopkins wants to be proclaimed as the best fighter in the world today, he will have to step inside the ring with Joe Calzaghe. I am talking about the here and now the present day, i do not give a dam what Bernard Hopkins did 5 years ago. Because once you step inside that ring, it doesn’t matter who you are, how much money you have earned, how many fights you have won, or what your name is. You are two fighters, that on the night have come to lace up the gloves and fight. So all this pussy talk, of who needs who is a totally load of sh*t. In what why doesn’t Bernard Hopkins not need Calzaghe, in terms of his legacy and money. I will admit Bernard Hopkins does not need Joe Calzaghe. But in the year of 2007, present day. If Bernard Hopkins wants to go around like he is the strongest fighter in the world, he f*ucking needs Joe Calzaghe. Because Joe Calzaghe is one of the strongest, best fighters out there, has showed no signs of being stopped. He is a reinforced armored tank, that lets rockets go. Forget outside of the ring, inside the loneliness place in the world, Joe Calzaghe status is as big as they come.
“All this pussy talks needs to stop, fighters come to fight, until the end of time!”

NEWSFLASH. Bernard Hopkins has been fighting the best for a while now. And according to Boxrec is the #1 P4P, who has Calcracky fought? Bhop was in a division that was deeper and help the UNIFIED title, while stay at home joe defended his lone WBO title. Joe needs BHop more than Bhop needs him. Lemme just put it this way, if BHop retired right now Calzaghe would never reach Bhop on ATG list, not even close!

Hopkins has dominated the light heavyweight division and he just wants to fight the best. He called out Calzaghe, and if Calzaghe wins his next fight and doesn't fight Hokins, well, then he's ducking him.

A win over Kessler and then the winner of Pavlik/Taylor would solidify Calzaghe as a P4P great better than if he fought an old slow Hopkins.
As i've said before, Calzaghe will get absolutely no credit if he beats Hopkins. Everyone will say he beat an old man and if he fought Hopkins in his prime he'd get destroyed.
So, in this sense, Calzaghe doesn't need Hopkins at all. Short of the paycheque he'll receive, it's a no win situation.

You cannot be fucking serious.
dominated the lhw decision by beating Tarver??? And getting Winky up from middleweight????
What about the guys that ACTUALLY FIGHT at 175 and aren't ancient???
2 fights = domination in your eyes? and one was a middleweight.
If he want's to fight the best, why get Winky up from 160? Why not try and fight an actual belt holder?
Sweet Jesus.

He didnt dominate but he beat the linear champ, who was regarded as the best at lightheavy. Thats teh only credit i give cause he kinda set Winky up, by making him fight him at 170 and used all the dirty tactics.

I don't think Hopkins needs to step inside the ring with Joe to be considered the best fighter today. Bernard has fought the best, beaten the best. I think its Joe that needs to step in with Hopkins if he wants to be considered the best. If Hopkins retired today, Joe would still be nowhere close to Hopkins on the ATG list. If Joe beat him, you wouldn't hear me say its only because Hopkins was old, i would give him the credit for beating a legend that is still sharp enough at this current time.

Would Hopkins even be comfortable fighting at 168?
Both JC and Kessler would fieldtrip Hopkins.

This doesn't make any sense. First you ask why Hopkins doesn't need Calzaghe. Then second, you come out and say Bernard Hopkins doesn't need Joe Calzaghe. Thirdly, you critisize those who say "Hopkins doesn't need Calzaghe" and dismiss their opinion as "pussy talk." Then you say if Hopkins wants to be the best he needs Joe Calzaghe because "fighters come to fight until the end of time."
WTF:huh
If Bernard Hopkins retired today, he would be considered the greater fighter by a vast majority of fans even if Calzaghe beats Kessler. Hopkins has been fighting the best and doesn't need Joe Calzaghe to solidify his legacy. His legacy is already set. If he beat Calzaghe, he would rise to new heights and if he lost, his legacy as an all time great wouldn't be hurt. So no, Hopkins doesn't need Calzaghe. Calzaghe could use Hopkins more than Hopkins could use Calzaghe.

In my book, a legacy is not fully solidified, when there are still great champions to be fought(at possible weights).
To me Hopkins will always stand out as the one, that "secured" his legacy through risk/reward fights. With the reward department surpassing the risk by far.

Calzaghe was willing to fight in Denmark against Kessler, too. (Kessler didn't want it, because he wouldn't have earned anything.)
B-Hop doesn't seem to be willing to face Joe in Britain. Joe wants to fight where the money is (at least, he says it).
I blame Joe because of his poor opponents so far, not because he likes to stay at home.

He didn't beat Zsolt Erdei.
Tarver was never linear champion.

Would Hopkins travel to Denmark to fight Kessler like Calzaghe was going to? I doubt it.

Since when has Hopkins beaten the best opponents he faced. Has everyone forgot about Jones or something? The best fighter he fought, he lost too. But that's ok, because Hopkins was too "green" just like he'd be too old if/when Calzaghe beats him.
Not only that, but the 160 division was every bit as bad as the 168 division during the reigns of both men.

In the daily Mail today calzaghe has told hopkins to fuck off fighting him becasue calzaghe has been trying to fight him over the last three years. (all you haters out there check the archives and interviews with calzaghe after the lacy fight) and is not ready to jump through hoops for someone hes been wanting to fight for years. This could just be to bait hopkins to wait till after the kessler fight until they make a decision.
regarding legacyies bernards is pretty hard to tarnish and I dont think he needs this fight but it would be one hell of a knotch on the old bedpost for hopkins if he wins. but little for calzaghe becasue they will say that Bhop was over the hill.
