Interim title fight but the winner could obtain the WBO belt since Calzaghe will probably never defend this title after fights against Hopkins or RJJ !
Jean Pascal was called before Mendy but he declined. Fight willl take place in Germany. I know Balzsay because of his successful amateur career but as a pro I don't know much about him. Seems it could be an easy night for the Kohl boxer who will have the home advantage. He is younger and he seems far more active. Mendy has not really fought since his draw against Hanshaw 20 months ago. Your opinion about this fight ?

Balzsay is real good talent. I would had loved to see him against Pascal. Now I think that he will win something like 116-112 close decision.

At one point, Mendy was better than Pascal is now, although I fear that age might be catching up with Mendy. I don't know enough about Balzsay to make a call on the fight though.

mendy is a very tough fighter and undefeated. balzay will win, but this will be no walk in the park.

Mendy confirmed he is ready for a fight in Lequipe but it seems Kohl works with the WBO to choose another opponent for Balzsay. The fight will be signed if it's really impossible to find someone else.
Mendy still works for his sport : he organizes a training camp for young boxers on august.

okay, here are the present wbo rankings:
1 Karoly Balzsay (Int-Cont) HUN
2 Jean Pascal CAN
3 Carl Froch GB
4 Librado Andrade MEX
5 Jermain Taylor USA
6 Jean Paul Mendy FRA
7 Andre Ward (NABO) USA
8 Denis Inkin RUS
9 Allan Green USA
10 Victor Oganov (Asia-Pacific) RUS
11 Fulgencio Zuñiga COL
12 Sakio Bika CAM
13 Daniel McKinnon (Oriental) NZ
14 Andre Dirrell USA
15 Isaac Rodrigues BRA
now if pascal, froch, taylor and andrade are all busy, this would leave mendy as the next best challenger.
but this does not come off, then andre ward could be the man to get the shot.
and he could be trouble.

Mendy organizes this training session for young boxers on august to earn €€€. I think he really needs money He is not a real pro but he had a club to help him. Problem is that his club "Les Gants Lucéens" fired him 15 days ago, this club will probably disappear because of financial problems.
He will have to build his own preparation. Klose will help him but he is not a real coach and he will have no sparring partners. It was the same situation against Hanshaw and it costed him the fight. Hanshaw had a plan, he knew exactly what to do and he won most of the first rounds. Mendy was surprised, he adjusted and he dominated the second part of the fight but it was just enough to obtain the draw.
Of course he knows how to train since he is a trainer himself but it would be easier with a promoter, a team, a camp. I don't understand why nobody can sign this guy... Gabriel Gaide seems a good guy but he has ONE boxer under contract : it does not seem very serious for a promoter. He has been unable to find a fight and it's really cause nobody is available that Mendy is contacted. He hasn't been officially contacted yet anyway !

Another proof that the rankings mean nothing : Mendy was ranked 6 and Inkin 8 but it will be... Inkin vs Balzsay.
As I had written I knew Kohl was working with the WBO to find another opponent for Balzsay. Boxing is really a sad business.

Big robbery , Mendy has been robbed of his whole pro career. 2 times bronze medallist at the amateur championships, KO victory over Mormeck in France etc.. As a pro he did everything right to obtain the EBU shot (french title, Karanevich, Kanfouah twice in his hometown)...nothing. Without any serious preparation he did good in the Shaw tournament against Hanshaw who had a camp of a world champion...nothing. And now another robbery with the rankings...
