Hello East Side Boxing...

I have My own opinion regarding this Question, so I am curious what other Boxing Fans think...

Who would make a "good" Opponent for Heavyweight Boxer; Derrick Rossy?

A guy with losses for starts. He took a step up and fought Chambers on espn this year and got his ass beat. Why would he go up against an undefeated prospect right away again?

Who cares anyways? Your first thread is about this guy.. are you Rossy?

he should fight someone who comes to brawl as he doesnt seem to cope with a fast guy like chambers, vinny maddalone or michael marrone decent tests

I vote for Boytsov.

Marrone has only little skill

I am aware that Derrick fought Eddie Chambers, ...it seems He( Rossy ) was a bit "out-matched", and not ready for that kind of Opponent, ...that is why I am asking about Opponents that are closer to His Experience level, but would still challenge Him!

I feel that Derrick can improve( I've seen 2 of His fights, I feel that He has potential to be a "good" Heavyweight )!

mike mollo is building up his cred (slowly might i add) and is a straight out brawler - however i think he is a little too experienced for Rossy just yet...

He could fight Roman Greenberg, or how about Audley Harrison?

Willy Bonka

...Roman Greenberg( Israel )/ 25-0-0-17KO, in My opinion, is still on a level ABOVE Rossy! :nono

...Audley Harrison( England )/ 21-3-0-16KO, maybe, when Rossy has 1 or 2 more bouts after His fight in August( and when His Record is more like 19-1-0-12KO )! :think

...Michael Marrone( FL/USA )/ 18-0-0-13KO, in My opinion, is one of the "better" match-ups for Rossy right now! :good

Marrone, with his shaky chin, would be PERFECT. It would be a quickie KO for Rossy against an over-hyped opponent with a padded record who has a bit of name.

No way Duva let's his over-protected joke into the ring with Rossy, though - he knows what would happen.

Should add JF Bergeron to the list.

As many of you know, I know Derric Rossy. I'm obviously a fan and I follow him closely. I believe that he took the Chambers fight a bit too early and I was nervous about the fight going into it. Not to mention, that fight was in our hometown with about 5,000 people crammed into a small gymnasium. I've been to dozens of fights all over the country and I can honestly say that I've never heard a louder crowd. I can only imagine how nervous Derric must have been. Another thing worth mentioning is that Derric had his heart set on football and was hoping to land a spot on an NFL roster. It wasn't until recently that he discovered boxing. I think that he's progressing well. He's quick and agile for a guy his size, he's still very young and he's smart and coachable. I'd like to see him sit down on his punches and maximize his size a little better but I think he's got loads of potential.

I agree! And that is exactly why I started this *Thread, to imagine future Opponents for Rossy! :thumbsup

Rossy needs to move on and try yet another sport. He will never be a legit factor.

Rossy, in My opinion, still needs a few more *Bouts with Opponents who have similar experience( Chazz Witherspoon-USA/ 19-0-0-13KO ), before He should fight "higher level" Opponents( Jean-Francios Bergeron-Canada/ 27-0-0-19KO ).

I do think however, that Rossy will eventually become a legitimate Contender( even if for one of the "lesser" Belts such as NABF )! :bbb

C'mon, man - wouldn't ya love to see him take out that joke Marrone?? Rossy may not sit down on his punches enough, but light-hitting cruiserweight put Marrone on queer street. Rossy would destroy him, even with his current flaws.:yep

I agree, I believe that Rossy has the tools to be a very good heavyweight, its just that he came to the sport so late. Guys like Rossy, Cintron---youve got to cut these guys SOME slack, they come in from other sports, are naturally athletic, do incredibly well to get to the point they are and work hard, then we shit on them for losing to more experienced fighters. Their experience needs to catch up to their talent.

I agree, that is why I asked the Forum what kind of Opponents Rossy should be facing, ...I believe he will make "movements" in the HW Division someday! :thumbsup

perhaps he should fight a treadmill, or a stairmaster so he doesnt fade against more active fighters which when he steps up again in class he'll need stamina.

You have a point, I'm sure His Trainers are working on that now with Him, so He can continue forward( I would like to see Rossy fight someone next who is on His "level", but "untested", like Chazz Witherspoon-USA/ 19-0-0-13KO, or Denis Boytsov-Russia/ 18-0-0-16KO ).

Rossy is a raw fighter but he show glimpses of quality ability. Once he gets the conditioning in order he can look to take that step forward and fight a guy like a Zuri Lawrence and then and then a name guy like a Monte Barrett. Rossy got a good learning experience against Chambers and Iu look to him to imporve with every fight.

I don't think the guy'll ever be a champ, and maybe he won't be much of a "factor", but why should that mean he needs to quit boxing? There are several thousand professional heavyweights, and most of them are never going to be world-beaters, but so what? If you have a passion for the sport, you enjoy fighting, and people enjoy watching, then why not do it? When I did boxing for a while I loved it. I knew I wasn't that good, but so what, I was enjoying boxing for its own sake, not because I thought I'd become the baddest man on the planet. Frankly I respect all the more someone who just boxed because they love it, instead of because they have delusions of grandeur that far overpass their real potential.

I agree, ...after Rossy has more conditioning( + stamina ), and has had a few more *Bouts with Opponents like Jason Estrada-USA/ 9-1-0-1KO, or Yanqui Diaz-Cuba/ 13-5-0-8KO, or Kendrick Releford-USA/ 14-9-2-5KO...

...He should then be ready for Opponents like Zuri Lawrence-USA/ 21-12-4-0KO, or Sherman Williams-Bahamas/ 33-10-2-19KO...

...before fighting a Guy like Kali Meehan-Australia/ 32-3-0-26KO! :think

Well, in My opinion, seeing that Josh Cobb has only had 5 fights( already lost 2, and His 3 wins were over "Opponents" that had NO WiNS at all on their Records ), ...Derrick Rossy would win by KO! :bbb

I'd go with Marrone. He's uncoordinated and inaccurate, his boxing skill is limited, and he has a highly suspect chin.

NO, I am near Sacramento, CA( Oleg Maskaev lives near here ).

I saw Derrick's fight with Shannon Miller on one of the Sports channels, ...liked watching the BiG Guy!

He got that KO over Gary Bell in RD2, Ronald Bellamy in RD6, ...I just think He will do well in this Sport, ...after Friday( 8-03-2007 ), His Record should be 17-1-0-11KO! :thumbsup

GO Rossy!!! :happy

Now that Rossy has won His *Bout with Zach Page( UD 8 ), I would like to see Him up against Someone like;

Yanqui Diaz( Cuba )/ 13-5-0-8KO or Jason Estrada( USA )/ 9-1-0-1KO

...or the already mentioned; Michael Marrone( USA )/ 18-0-0-13KO.

Ray Mercer? OK, I didn't see that one coming!!! I want to see Derric(USA)/ 18-1-0-10KO, fight Michael Marrone(USA)/ 18-0-0-13KO, after M.M. fights Francesco Pianeta!

John McDermott 23-3 would be good. McDermott is a fat lad from England with decent skill but needs testing against anyone half decent again.

I haven't seen the Mercer fight yet, but I don't think Rossy is ready for a top prospect. I think that he would be an even fight with Marrone at this point. I think though if he is serious about being a contender he should go after Guinn.

That is why I say Rossy should fight Someone like Marrone, because in My opinion, Marrone is definitely NOT a "top prospect".
