Boxing has the perfect oppurtunity to reach where it once as or at least a shadow of that. It is slo[Only registered and activated users can see links] getting there but i think the boxign gods have shined down on us. the NBA dealing with point shaving allegations and the game losing its appeal as 2007 marked the lowest-rated Finals series ever, the NFL dealing with michael vicks dog fighting allegations. Pacman Jones' five arests and 10 police interviews since returning to the league, Thank Johnson and Cincinatti Bengals wide reciever Chris Henry 8 games suspension for repeated legal troubles and the rest of the NFL players being arrested on a constant basis, MLB still dealign with a baseball chase taht has been tainted by steroids and will face even more criticism when Bonds breaks the record. MMA is plagued with steroids and the tour de france has had a bunch of positive drug tests this year. NHL isnt doing too well in the market seeing as to how the Food Channel gets better ratings than the Stanley Cup.

This is the perfect oppurtunity for boxing rise up. With the fights that they are putting no, i am very very hopeful for this sport.

Amen brother. :good

2007 is looking to be the best year for boxing in the current decade, and with the fights that are being lined up for the second half of the year, everybody's hopes should be up.

IMO fans are gonna be looking for heroes again. Heroes that they wont bea ble to find in other sports because of all the allegations. Its like a "i dotn know who to trust" mentality.

they can find those heroes in boxing. and if marketed right, its the best time to create fighters into heroes and house hold names.

I hope boxing does rise up. The only problem is that the same issues that are fuckin up other sports are prevelent in Boxing. The NBA has an official possibly fixing games, fights have been fixed in boxing for years. MMA has a steroid problem, plenty of boxers test positive all the time. The NFL has Michael Vick, boxing has Gerald McClellen and Roy Jones Jr.

i was gonna say that but if we get more guys like what we have in this welterweight division, which are a bunch of seemingly stand up individuals and the ultimate villain in Mayweather then were set.

MMA is plagued with steroids ....

:patsch

Hardly.. Two fighters. Let's not forget Vargas & Toney?

The recent steriod issue with two lighter weight fighters will have zero bearing on MMA.

Someone just needs to buy all the belts and make them redundant, replacing it with one belt per division.
Also all the ridiculous super and junior divisions should be abolished and we should go back to the original 8.
Fighters weigh in on the day of the fight to force fighters fight at their actual weight class.

That should do the trick.

Boxing is clean?

Remember Mosely & Balco?

My main point is that if you are looking for the steroid issue to "bring down" or taint MMA, you are mistaken.

yea we got a taste of how life could be during the hype for Mayweather/DLH. hopefully it doesnt take another 5 years for a fight of that magnitude to happen again, or at least for people to start talking boxing like they were during that 15 minutes of fame boxing had.

it is going to take the mainstream press getting behind and changing the general publics perception of it.

I am not sure what the catalyst for that would be. I don't think good fights alone will be enough.

Something that has the ability to transcend the sport and capture people's imagination is what is called for.

gotts to agree with you ther somthing like a young mike tyson or DLH.

ps you still got that beast in your avatar were going to have to make a bet on an upcoming fight for you to get rid of that avatar huh?:yep :yep :yep

Boxing won't rise up until the ABC orgs disappear and fights stop costing 50 bucks.

Boxing needs one uniting entity that cares about the sport, not just making money.
Most other sports have a single body that is responsible for the well-being of the entire sport, sure they generally also have a financial interest in the health of the sport which is fair enough. Boxing has too many competing elements. Fighters that want to make as much money as they can in an uncertain, very short career (can't blame them for that). Promoters who generally care about nothing but how much they can make for themselves in the next fight (greedy bastards). Sanctioning bodies that only care about their own existence and making money, certainly not the fighters and often it seems not even the fans (self-defeating idiots).

If one looks at the NFL as an example, the owners are competitive but also know that the health of the entire league benefits their franchise adding value to it. They act as a coillective of interested parties and the sport usually benefits from this mentality.

The big question is how does boxing get from here to there?

NFL also has players who like to play short careers and make money while in it. I know that wasnt the point of what u just wrote but i just realized that.
