OK - now it has been confirmed that Billy is packing in, who will be Hatton's next permanent trainer?

There has been plenty of talk on Le Generale about the likes of Floyd Mayweather sr and Freddie Roach - both of whom seem long shots as Hatton is part of a very close family and likes spending time with his young son.

I aren't sure if there are any British based trainers that could actually improve him - Adam Booth is based in Cyprus with David Haye, Brendan Ingle is an obvious no-no.

Any thoughts gents......

what I think is you say Hatton is "part of a very close family"

Father Ray Hatton is going to have a big say in this as always

I honestly feel he will be more concerned about getting a trainer who demands less of a cut of the purse

than getting the right quality trainer who will want to be paid more

I honestly think Hatton should pack it in

Now Billy has gone - aint that a sign that it should be the end of the road for him too

Billy always said he would tell Ricky when it was time to retire - but now Billy has gone before Ricky - who is gonna tell him now

Floyd Sr said last week in an interview that he might train Hatton.

Enzo Calzaghe doesn't seem an unreasonable choice.

Gaven Rees would clash with him in the gym though

Matthew Hatton was just shit against Watson, that was nothing to do with Billy Graham.

Watson didn't do so much as win the fight, Matt just sort of, well, did fuck all and made it easy for the judges to hand him a loss.

When he was actually throwing punches he looked good and capable of winning, but was lazy and got what he deserved. Nowt.

Flint - you are seriously starting to sound like a hater. At least some of his detractors are at least objective.

Adam Booth would be my bet, he seems to be able to break down an opponent and train the fighter accordingly.

Enzo Calzaghe - I am not sure. I won't say too much on that one because I really dislike the guy! I don't think Ricky would be too encouraged by Enzo stating that Ricky had to earn his shot at Gavin Rees, either.

Freddie Roach would be ideal IMO, but as he trains Pac and this fight appears to be on the cards, it seems unlikely.

Floyd Mayweather sr would be able to teach Ricky how to defend, but would he actually apply it in a fight. :think

Manny Steward is one I admire, but again working behind a solid jab isn't really Ricky's game.

He did, finding a link would be tricky though.

It was when Rees was being mentioned as being a possible comeback opponent about six/eight weeks after the Mayweather fight.

Probably trying to hide the fact that his man would have got one hell of a beating had the fight happened.

The biggest obstacle was the fact that Rees is a Sports Network fighter.

Are people sure about Enzo saying that? Why does the linear champ have to earn a shot at a belt he vacated?

Beeston Brawler

He ought to have been drilling into Maccarinelli's head that he was a paper champ and in line for a beating.

To be honest, I expected the fight to have been a bit longer, say six rounds - with a brutal beating rather than a two round blast out.

Seeing a Sports Network fighter getting caned is priceless though

Back to Rees - whatever he was on when I said that I want some. That way Leeds would be a decent side.

Achilles - you are in Sports Network territory here. The fact that a guy is linear and proven to be the best in the weight class don't mean fuck all.

If it suited him in any given situation - Enzo Calzaghe would say the world was not round it is flat.

He will twist everything into his favour.

I posted a thread on the Brit Forum called

"Enzo Calzaghe Gibberish....."

if you havent seen the video watch that - the guy spouts so much shit

he also said Mormeck took a "dive" and "quit" aganist Haye - rather than Haye having power

I'm gonna watch that when I get home. Can't watch it from work.

Funny how Enzo is in such contract to Joe. I'd like to see Joe's mum.

It's a shame cos Enzo is a good coach when he isn't delusional.

I think if Enzo was able to actually train the fighters to suit their own styles instead of turning them into Joe mk2, mk3, mk4 etc he would be good.

His bubble was always going to be burst once the big unification fights came and the decent mandos - he was milking it for all it was worth (fair enough) and now has to accept the inevitable criticism.

There is nothing wrong with backing your fighters, but please be realistic. He could have said.....

'The Hatton fight is a great opportunity for Gavin to prove he is the best light welterweight in the world against a genuine top class opponent. It is one that we are all looking forward to, and whilst realising it is going to be a tough ask, are quietly confident of success'

'Gary Lockett has been given a once in a lifetime opportunity to win the undisputed title. Pavlik has great power and has beaten Jermain Taylor twice, so we are under no illusions as to the size of his task....'

"[Hatton] needs to prove he deserves a world title shot first," WBA super lightweight beltholder Gavin Rees' manager/trainer Enzo Calzaghe (father of Joe) bizarrely told the Daily Star. "Just because you are a name doesn't mean you should get a world title shot straight away." Rees, who was fighting in six-rounders two fights ago, and was considered a safe defense when he upset Souleymane M'baye for the title in an undercard bout in July, has a record of 27-0, 13 KOs. IBO light welterweight champion Hatton (43-1, 31 KOs) is a three-time world champion, is widely still considered to be the top 140-pounder, and gave pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather a tough go in a Las Vegas PPV megafight that attracted 20,000 Brits overseas. The elder Calzaghe did not specify what Hatton needs to do to prove he deserves a shot at Rees.

He said that!!! My god i knew he spouted all sorts of utter guff but massive upper cut followed by massive whomp on the nut followed by a brief trip to never never land says everything to anyone with a bit of nouse that Haye can bang.

Sooner he just shuts up and goes away the better.
