2004 Gold Medalist at Welter, a favorite again this year. Does anyone know if the Kazak will go pro? He'll only be 25 after Beijing.

I remember watching him win the gold medal
in the olympics against the Cuban(Aragon, I think?).
I was very impressed with his performance,
and marked him out as one to watch.
Don't know if he's going pro or not.
But he boxes up at middle now, and is a bit small
for the division. I think he'll meddle but can't
see him beating Korobov for the gold.

In that division I have

1) Matvey Korobov(Russia)
2) Alfonso Blanco (Venezuela)
3) Bakhitar Arteyev (Kazhakstan)

Well, "incidently" that's exactly the ranking of the last World Championships. :yep

How good is Korobov? Pro potential? I'm woefully underaware of these guys; we get zero coverage in the states. Anyone know a good website to more closely follow the international amateur scene?

Korobov is elite, very talented southpaw, the closest thing the Russians have for a guaranteed gold and considering the talented team they have that's saying something. Pure domination in the last Word Championships. Blanco scored 4 points against him (giving away 29) and that's the best anyone did against him. Fast hands, fast feed, good movement, good counter-punching, slips punches, beautiful how he countered Blanco with combination when he lunged in, pure domination.

He's arguably the best pound for pound
amateur boxer in the world right now.

Here check him out yourself.

I love how Russian boxers are taught the pro-style, and succeed in the amateurs with it. Hopefully Korobov wins gold and turns pro, I am sure Sauerland and Universum are after him and other members of the Russian team.

Korobov will probably take home Val Barker honors. While professional agents will be encircling the Russian squad like sharks!

Artayev's window for turning professional was after the Athens Games. He may have stayed amateur too long. He should have followed the example of his teamate; Shumenov.

I fear so,too. He should have turned pro after he had won the gold medal at the olympic tournament in Greece.

His style is made for the pros. A rough and toug customer with pop in his fists and the determination to destroy his opponent inside a ring is truly made for the pros.

Anyone gives James Degale a chance against Artayev tomorrow?
