I'm curious to see how many fighters the knowledgeable posters of classic can come up with here, and even better, if they can name numbers of the most punches they know of said fighter ever throwing in a round.
Paul Williams and Vince Phillips each threw over 120 punches in the second round against Rias and Quartey, respectively.

Sam Soliman threw over 1200 punches against Winky while Winky himself threw 900 i think.
Wasn´t Ibeabuchi-Tua a fight were both threw around 1000 punches the whole fight? So, if it is so than both would have thrown more than 100 in one round or another.

Zack Padilla is your man in the modern era. His fight with Oliveria in particular stood out, as, as many as 3,000 punches were thrown by the fighters in 12 rounds.

I think it was Ben Tackie was part of a fight that nearly matched that one in punch output.

Antonio Margarito holds the compubox record with 1675 punches thrown vs Joshua Clottey, an average of 139.6 punches per round, having surpassed the previous record 1596 by Zack Padilla vs Ray Oliveira. In the 5th round alone Margarito supposedly threw 197 punches, more than 1 punch per second.

They should get rid of meaningless punchstats IMO.

The stats of punches that landed shouldn't be trusted too much, I agree with that. But for punches thrown they seem to be close to truth most of the time.

Calzaghe threw 100 punches in a round against Kessler if I remember correctly.

True.
Does anyoen remember what fights it was where Toney landed a certain high number of punches throughout the fight?.

Wayne McCullough was apparently a threshing machine.
A report of Tua v Ibeabuchi:
Battle with Tua
Up to this point, he was an unknown heavyweight, but was then put in with undefeated super prospect David Tua . At the start of the fight, Ibeabuchi came out very fast, throwing powerful combinations to Tua’s body and head, while blocking most of Tua’s punches. Ike managed to throw 91 punches in the first and second rounds (the heavyweight average is around 50). After Ike dominated the first 5 rounds, Tua managed to get back into the fight by winning some of the middle rounds. Ike won the later rounds and won a unanimous decision. The fight holds the record for most punches thrown in a heavyweight contest, beating the previous record set by Ali-Frazier III (remarkable since Ali-Frazier went two more rounds). Ibeabuchi also broke the record for the most punches thrown by an individual heavyweight, averaging 81 punches a round.
So there's no heavyweight members of the 100 Club!

So there's no heavyweight members of the 100 Club!
There probably is but it will be some fight that ended early.
Joe Louis might have theoreticaly made the cut in the second Schmeling fight if Schmeling had somehow lasted the first round then quit on his stool

..........Kevin Kelley and Troy Dorsey threw something like over 2500 punches at each other in their 12 rounder back in 1991. Best fight ever on the USA network back in the days of the Tuesday Night Fights.
Another Punch-A-Thon was Zack Padilla beating Bolillo Gonzalez. I understand that at the time, it was some sort of punchstat record, but I couldn't give you an exact number.

This thread seems to have changed from:
Who threw more than 100 punches per round?
to
Who averaged more than 100 punches per round?
Can the thread starter clarify please.

I think Manuel Medina used to throw over 1,000 punches a fight regularly; must have been a good few 100-per-round ones in there.

Kassim Ouma threw quite a few, maybe Paul Williams, and one that often gets overlooked, Sweet Pea in his prime could very well throw 75-100 punches a round.

Tommy Cordova and Danny Lopez regularly threw over or close to one hundred punches a round. I also recall seeing several instances where both Myung Woo Yuh and Thierry Jacob easily threw well over 100 punches a round in some of their bouts.

Rocky Marciano threw 96 punches in the 15th round after 14 gruelling rounds with hall of famer ezzard charles. when you consider about 80 of them were power punches, its simply amazing.
Anyone know how many punches rocky threw in round 6 vs archie moore? had to be close to 100.

One that was pretty amazing to watch was one fight between Philip Holiday and Ivan Robinson, about 10 years ago, where I think both were doing close to 100 punches per round, every round. Robinson finally started to fade a bit in the last couple of rounds and Holiday outlasted him.

I believe the heavyweight record for most punches thrown in a single fight is still held by David Bostice.
In a 10-round win over Ed Mahone, he chucked 1044.
An average of 104 per round of course, and he'd have to have had several rounds with more than 100 thrown to get that.
No other heavyweight, even in 12 fights, have thrown more than that.
But bear in mind that's only on official record...
Seem to recall Sedreck Fields threw an ungodly about of shots at Shannon Briggs too. Rahman had 933 against Toney in their first fight for an average per round of 78. Lou Savrese had a high figure against Foreman too.
Have to dig around for some. See if I have any stats for exact rounds as well.

Okay...here's a load of heavyweight stuff I dug up. It's not inclusive by a long shot, for example I don't have the stats for the busy Round 10 of Holyfield-Bowe I, but it's what I've found from the stats I've got.
Some numbers to add to the mix, and I'd be more than happy if anyone has any data to add or overrule anything here.
---Highest punches per round---
Bowe vs Holyfield III 45/91 (Round 3)
Grant vs Savarese 56/90 (Round 10)
Bowe vs Holyfield II 38/90 (Round 4)

The Ibea - Tua doesn't sound right. Big guys doesn't hit as many times as small guys for the same use of energy and effect. Just like an eagle doesn't "flap" as many times as a tiny bird. It is just nature.
It would be more interesting to get a p4p # punches per round.

The Ibea - Tua doesn't sound right.
You're right, it wasn't...they didn't throw 1000 punches each. That's never happened in a heavyweight fight, at least not one with the punchstats tallied (and that includes stuff like Ali-Frazier III and Holyfield-Bowe II).
Ibeabuchi threw 972, Tua 756.
