View Full Version : Is Amir Khan losing the plot?

Watched his interview today on Bunce's show and Khan didn't seem his normal confident self. I'm not talking about what he said, more his demeanour and body language. I think the scare Gomez gave him has knocked a bit of that cockiness out of him (not a bad thing really).
He still came out with a few pearlers though:
Talking about Murray - "I'm above domestic level now", despite being dropped and hurt to the body by a blown up SFW who's seen better days.
Do you think you will be a world champion by the end of the year Amir? "Oh yeah, definitely, definitely". He'll have to get a move on, it's August already.

Khan talks the talk
and so far has only walked the walk of a British / Commonwealth level
we have never see him fight a world class fighter yet
and there is every reason to believe he would lose when he does fight a geniune world class fighter

He needs to move up to domestic level now - not downwards to domestic level.
What has he done to convince anyone that he is above domestic level - win the fabled WBO interalphabetty strap, or the now meaningless Commonwealth title?
He was asked would he like to fight Murray and he said he would but he's past domestic level now:patsch . He said he wants to fight top 10 fighters :nut .

What, domestic top 10 fighters??
He has fought a couple thus far

:lol:He meant international("I want to fight some Americans") when he's not even faced the top domestic/continental fightters yet.

I'd love Amir to be successful, but this is so true.
If he hadn't had the silver and the hype there's no way anyone would still give much credibility to the idea he can be a real world champion.

If Khan and his team truly believe he is above domestic level it begs the question why John Fewkes was apparently offered the chance to fight him next....

Elle you're nearly always the voice of reason. Amir certainly has talent but I do fear the worst in terms of the way his career is directed.

i actually posted a similiar comment on FWs website. I wonder if it will get approved.
i'm sure Fewkes would have been built up as some kind of undefeated fringe world class prospect if the fight was on
I think Khan will now realize the mistake he made in resigning with ******. The kid's ambitious and wants to fight a good level of opposition but ****** keeps feeding him low level opponents.

Thanks Dan. I agree - Khan is an immense talent which is why it is so frustrating to think that he may not fulfil his full potential.

Khan will be buzzed and stopped on his feet the first time he steps up into the world of the PAcquiao's and Diaz's.
He got dropped by Drilzane, a guy with 0 KO's.

Wasn't that where his feet got caught in the ropes and he touched down? Not really a legit KD.

Hopefully FWTV will post your comment. :good
Fair enough if they offered a fight to Fewkes but it just seems such a contradiction with all these "above domestic level" claims.

True, he has been fighting domestic level opponents but they have given him all he could cope with, Limond, Gomez.
I dont think that ****** can be blamed for this, he knows that despite all his talk, Khans nowhere near ready to step up to world class level, especially in the lightweight division which is one of the strongest out there.

I do not see any good reason why the Murray fight cannot be made except Khan and his team know they will lose.

With a young fighter you need to see progress. Choosing Fewkes is kind of like choosing Limond. Good fighter, good fight, but the other guy can't crack an egg (though Fewkey can throw hurtful body shots). I don't see a good learnign curve for Khan. If Khan faces a puncher, said puncher has to be on his last legs (Gomez, Earl). How much can Amir learn doing this?
Fewkes now states that he is willing to fight Kahn if they improve their purse offer.

Khans driven on by vain pride
most guys have to make sure they provide for their wife and kids and even if they get beaten up like Julius Francis V Mike Tyson they are content and happy that they bag their cheque and go home and can feed their kids and pay the bills
Khan has no such worries like that
his worries are much more superficial
for him the biggest pain is not failing to win a World title
it's being made to look bad in front of his mates and peers
teenagers in Bolton who hold him up as some God
Girls who tell him "Amir we fancy you - we want to hang around with you"
"Amir your the best - Sarah fancys you"
Khans ego - goes into overdrive
I'm not only famous and rich - I'm good looking too - the girls fancy me
this has created a vainly prideful massive ego of a young man
his greatest pain is being knocked the fuck out in front of all these people it is so important for him to impress
thats why he strikes back with such pride when he is hurt
"what will all the lads and the smart girls think - if I dont live up to the hype and lose"
he is a driven young man - fuelled by his vain egotiscal unpleasant pride
if he was ugly like Ricky Hatton - pheraps he would not have the same fire in his belly
but he knows he has alot to live up too
the girls compete to be a passenger in Khans top of the range Mercedes
no other 21 year old lad from Bolton can afford one of them
they have to make do with a vauxhall
"Amir is better than you" - all the girls say to the other boys of Bolton

If he has only just gotten above domestic level then why didn't he fight Thaxton. What about Romanov? He's on the Euro/world level!
Why is Murray any more domestic than Khan? Murray is an undefeat British champ. Same sort of level Khan is at. So he is afraid of the young undefeated prospect AND the old wily veteran. So no Murray or Thaxton then. Khans also afraid of the solid contender who is neither young or shot. So no Romanov.
****** is a pro at finding fights that are good but not really what we want to see. He needs to unify against Murray, defend against Thaxton, fight Romanov, then a REAL contender and then fight for the title!!!

Fact of the matter is he is a good prospect and theres every chance he could accomplish a lot. After all how many go to the olympics at the age of 17!!
HES 21 he has a good 10-15 years of boxing if he wants. Theres plenty of time to improve.
I think he will win world titles and at some point he will lose, but most boxers do. Im under no illusions that he has been knocked down twice too easily, but he is big for the weight, he could be dehydrated and hes probably not used to getting hit.
I think in the next fight your gonna see a much better Amir Khan, much better defence and a better performace.

Your posts are becoming more and more vitriolic, take a pill and chill out. You don't go to work for nothing, I don't go to work for nothing, even Lord Colin Jones didn't work for nothing...whatever you think of these men as men they do risk life and limb in the ring for your entertainment and as such deserve compensation that is commensurate. The disparity in purses only reflects the popularity of the fighters in question so basically if people didn't want to watch Khan or Hatton they wouldn't pay to see them and instead of driving Mercs (i've got one and am on nowhere near as much as Khan) they would be driving Astras.
Final word, get a fucking grip and ease off of the hate.

Good post ICEMAX I will take your comments on board.
I'm not a hate filled person.
But I save my more damning posts for Hatton and Khan.
Just because I think they deserve some stick.
Hatton though is the NO 1 Cunt in my eyes.
In fairness to Khan he is only 21 years old and if all the success has made him somewhat big headed it is understandable
I use to quite like the young lad from Bolton = but he has changed I think and now it would be nice to see him humbled.
I have no problem with people getting rich - as I have said before if I had the oppurtunity to make millions - I would take it.
Its the way Hatton goes about it which gets me - with all the PR crap and bluffing its not about the money.
I never said I had a problem with Khan being rich - I just said he was rolling around in his mercedes with a vain ego.

maybe Khan will win a respected World title
maybe Khan will become Undisputed Champion
maybe Khan will win World Titles at loads of diffrerent weights
maybe Khan will become the best pound for pound fighter in the world
maybe Khan will stay unbeaten and retire undefeated
maybe Khan will become a billionaire
maybe Khan will go down as the greatest fighter who ever lived - or a Hall of Famer
if he does any of these things - enough respect to him
but that does not mean I have to like him as a human being or that I am pleased for him
if Khan gets older and changes somewhat maybe I will grow to like him
but as things are now I'm not the only one, there are other fair minded people who say they dislike this guy - there has got to be a good reason for that.

:rofl :rofl :rofl This is hilarious.

Khan isn't particularly good looking and he certainly isn't loved in Bolton. If you think teenage girls go crazy over him, think again. Outside of the large Muslim community, he hasn't got a huge fanbase here.
Correct,im from Bolton and you would be amazed how many people were cheering when Willie Limond and Gomez dropped him.Anybody with any boxing knowledge in Bolton just think hes a celebrity boxer making his millions with Frank whilst avoiding fights because hes no chin.A fair assessment methinks!Ps are they going to announce an opponent for this next bout or just wait until the night and ask one of the crowd?

The time is coming when all the young girls of Bolton will have their illusions shattered
they handsome hero - Amir Khan - Boltons answer to Chris Brown
is beaten
glass chin - smashed all across the floor
I wont gloat about it - but I will be pleased - cos Khan is a unlikeable person - who thinks he is way better than he is - to see him humbled would be nice
but he still rich and famous and handsome - so life is still good for him
even if he gets exposed as a World CHampion - pretender.
Paper champion at best
prediction
Khan might compete with the world level
but this guy wont bend he will break
vain pride suddenly cracks
KO

I'm not gloating - but pleased with myself that my prophecy came true.
Notice the 10 count - I knew he would be counted out - the nature of the type of fighter Khan is he will suddenly crack and thats what happened :yep

Do you even know how contradictory your statements are?
Resentment is not something that people can inspire in you, resentment is self generated from many emotional conditions and imbalances, resentment requires Ego.
Everybody person is unique even twins are unique, no two people can be the same just as no two snow flakes are identical.
In ever TV show they have a character that everybody loves to hate, boxing is no different, this is a physiological technique built into people, when humans lived in smaller groups we would fear and hate outsiders, outsiders represent change, even within our own groups as we wished to be leaders, there is a reason why politics is cut throat, it's tribal nature.
There is a reason why the Pac Man is loved in the Philippines and not in Mexico, the Philippines peoples share victory vicariously through him, then they can congratulate themselves and say he is the best ergo we are the best, it's the same with all sports and fan bases.
Subconsciously when people know a person can fail they will come right out and hate that person publicly, to show others they are not associated with them, so it is simpler just to hate that person and avoid persecution, your own self image remains intact, to hate another person you have never met and will never know makes as much sense as hating yourself for something you never did.

All I will say is this
I dont have to know Khan deeply as a person to dislike him
I have seen him through various media forms.............TV, etc
And while never met him in person
I create a impression on him
The impression I got was i dont like the egotiscal young man
I dont have to conduct a survey on him to decide whether I like him or not

Which is funny, because my own natural instinct is to like Khan.
Even though I can see some of the overblown statements and cockiness others do...it just doesn't upset me so much.
A focus on the domestic front would definitely be worthwhile I feel.
If he's lost the hearts & minds of the British public, then he needs to win them back. Of course some people would pipe up, laughing about him not taking on world class opponent now, but never mind that he needs to rebuild...aim for the British title, and if you get that then the European.
Basically, what he should've been frigging doing in the first place.

If only it was so simple, Instinct has developed over hundreds of thousands of years, it's main purpose is to protect humans and animals to preform simple behaviours or even intricate ones without having to learn them or understand how it works, in the same way a bird can fly without having to practice or animals know what to do when the mate or forage for food, this is instinct, saying it's instinct to like or dislike a person you do not know based on clips and selected editing is not very logical, from all the information you have you should be aware that it does not represent a real person at all, I'm sure you have heard about people who one day meet a celebrity or famous person only to be deeply disappointed, you could firmly say you did not like a person based on your instinct once you actual meet them, there is so much more information that your senses can absorb, anybody that has experienced internet dating will understand this logic, some people that sound fantastic on paper and print will make your skin crawl, others you would not give a second look turn out to be very likeable and great people.
Judge a person based on what they can do or did, not on what they claim they can do, hence the hatred for Politicians and boxers who blow their own trumpets and do so very little, a young man can not claim to have done any great things, this takes time, lets wait and see what these young men can do.
I felt bad for Fagan because he is a decent hearty boxer, a few years ago he would have made a better showing of himself but no boxer goes into the ring the same person fight after fight, this was not a good fair fight IMHO and Amir needs to fight higher level opponets to get any respect, we all know this and nobody disagrees, but why make it personal when its so impersonal and remote from all of us.

I agree......Instinct has nothing to do with "learning"
It comes natural.
Its a natural instinct wether you like or dislike someone.
Its natural wether you get on with someone as a mate or dont get on.
Its nothing to do with logic.
Logically everything may seem fine..............but your instinct may still be to dislike them.
Like Lewis Hamilton says and does all the text book right things.......he is polite........media friendly...........and successful...........a typical nice young lad done very well................and always flashes that million dollar colgate toothpaste smile
Logically.........everyone should like him
However one guy said on ESB before...........there is something about Hamilton...........a certain vibe about him........he senses he looks down on others...........a bit of a CUNT
Thats the feeling he gets........he dislikes him............thats instinct
I go with my instincts always.........while try to force yourself to like someone when all your instincts are telling you that you dislike him
Also I disagee..............you do get a impression of a person off the TV
They are not fucking cardboard cut outs on the TV mind
They are the real person..........a human being
I agree..........there would be alot more information to sense if you were to meet them in person
But you can still get a real impression of them off the TV..........as guess what that really fucking is them mind............not some cartoon character :nut

You just said it, when you meet them, the other side of the coin is in what circumstance you meet them, if it's in a night club and he is looking at your bird then you will probably not like the chap, if you burning to death in a car and he drags you butt out you will feel very differently about the very same person.
I'm sure you guys know what what is called photogenic or videogenics, some people come across very well on film video and pictures and others don't, some models come across fantastically well on pictures but in video they are just horrible, super models being the best example, some people come across very well on Radio but again in real life they bomb, when a human is in a view finder of a camera that is broadcasting live to Millions of people they take on another persona, this is not really them, it's an Altar or altenative personallity, even TV news casters and presenters have the ability to switch it on, these people are screen tested for these unmeasureable qualities, the ability to be a certain person infront of a camera is a skill, this is why actors spend years learning the craft of lying on screen, like I said before what we see it not actual a human person, in the same way a picture of a sun set will not make you feel the same as the actual sun set,, the people we watch and see on TV are full of illusion and trickery, we are conditioned to see them as normal when they are so not.
TV is the biggest brain fuck I could ever discribe.

This has all become very intellectual, and does not need to be.
Lets just all agree that Khan needs to fight higher level opponents, and cut down on the arrogance like he is some big shot pro boxer, because he is not. He is an amateur boxer, who is unproven even at domestic level in the pro ranks.
The dislike for Khan comes from the hype without anything to back it up with...Do I hear you say timber...that chin is so fragile...
