Since a Paul Williams-Antonio Margarito rematch isn't in the cards this year, HBO and Williams promoter Dan Goossen are working on a fall "Boxing After Dark" doubleheader. Williams (34-1, 25 KOs) would defend his welterweight belt in the main event, possibly against mandatory challenger Michael Jennings (33-1, 16 KOs) of England. It would also include rising heavyweight contender Cristobal Arreola (24-0, 21 KOs), but don't count on seeing him against David Tua, a fight often discussed. The sides are far apart on money and it does not fit the budget of an opening bout on "BAD."
Have a bad feeling for Jennings if this comes off
It'd be like Pavlik-Lockett all over again.

Jennings needs to get his shot , Welters a tough division so its not like there are any easy fights out there.
He goes in a big underdog but hes fit as fuck and one of the sweetest pure boxers around so he has a chance. If he loses he loses but better that then being stuck at a level.
He is a great guy and has deserved his shot at glory for a while now

I think Williams would sooner vacate than face Jennings, a good guy but clearly not on his level.
Jennings ought to vacate that piece of trash he holds and go after the European title :deal

You are probably right and I know Williams starched Quintana in the rematch but in the first fight he was made to look like shit by accurate boxing and a good workrate
The odds would be againt Jennings but for gods sake this board is full of talk of lagacies and heroes and how an unbeaten record isnt worth shit compared to testing yourself against the best. If a shot is there he has to take it!

Quintana made him look awful in the first fight - I remember watching it on Sky Sports.......
Either way - Jennings needs to get rid of the WBU. Those 'champs' are pigeonholed, and rightly so IMO

definitely. i wouldn't give him much of a chance but i'm sure jennings would give it 100% - and perhaps even do well enough to get more fights at world level.
It isn't Pavlik-Lockett at all. Jennings has actually heard of a defence and a jab, which helps.
There isn't much he can do with Williams on an offensive level though. He's too basic and relying on only 1-2's, I don't think he has the timing to counter Williams and pick up his rhythm like Quintana, so the reach factor is too much.
He'd probably get broken down mid to late, but not anything like as pathetic as Lockett.

It was probably the first time I have been rooting against a British fighter in a world (sorry Dan) title fight - his attitude stinks, and his previous performances suggested that he had no chance against Pavlik - the guy is nowhere near top 10 P4P domestically. His best win was against Ryan Rhodes at 160 - clearly Ryan is a 154lb'er who should have been at welter in his earlier days.
Jennings is an honest fighter, nothing more or less - good luck to him if the fight comes off.

I hope Jennings gets his chance even if he is a huge underdog. I doubt my patriotism will cloud my judgement in thinking he can grab a win but he has been up in the rankings for a long while, maybe after this if he loses we will get to see him involved with out entertaing Welterweight division.

Don't apologise, the WBC was on the line that night. Any other baubles carried into the ring were of no consequence to me.
