Arslan to face Jones Sept 27!
[Only registered and activated users can see links] a folk hero in his native Swabia, WBA cruiserweight champion Firat Arslan (29-4-1, 18 KOs) will now try to conquer the hearts of fight fans in the Hanseatic City of Hamburg, when he takes on mandatory challenger Guillermo Jones (35-3-2, 27 KOs) on September 27th. The bout at the huge Color Line Arena wil highlight the first "Universum Champions Night" event following the summer break. "Jones is a top fighter with a high KO rate," said Arslan. "He has boxed good names, but I've never feared anyone. I respect his achievements, and I'm quite certain that with a win I'll earn an abundance of respect. The better the opponent, the higher the respect behind it." Arslan, who turns 38 the following day, will be making his second defense. After many years without a trainer, he will again be prepared for the fight by Michael Timm and Valentin Silaghi. The 36-year-old Jones is promoted by Don King and has been a contender in three different weight classes. "I'm massively happy to box for the first time for the great Hamburg fans," said Arslan. "I love Hamburg. I've often trained here and have seen the great atmosphere from ringside. Now I want to thrill the people myself." Additional matchups wil be announced soon. Advance ticket sales start on Saturday.

There was talk about it after his last fight but good to see Universum've stuck to their word.

Good to see Arslan fighting a decent opponent which is somewhat unexpected seeing the guys Erdei's been fighting lately

Wll, i think that has something to do with money. Universum thinks that Arslan won´t be champ for long given his age and limitations and so they let him fight better opponents to draw more people and make more money with less fights in contrast to Erdei who will be champ at least for the next two years and maybe Universum thinks they can make more money with him over this period by fighting bums.

Since Arslan is one of my favouite fighters i will root for him and i also think he is capable of outworking Jones. Will be a good fight i think.

arslan is a monster.

technically maybe not the most talented guy, but he has power like ten horses.

he is the most underrestimated WC

Yeah, but this is a bad, bad matchup for him. Jones has by far the most experience, he's long and rangy, Arslan's strength and aggression won't bother him, and he can crack with the right hand.

The main question here is how the layoff affects Jones. He's a seasoned pro and a very, very smart fighter, so he'll most likely be ready.

Arslan is fun to watch, he comes forward non-stop, but I just don't see him winning this unless Jones is very rusty and slipped a notch or two.

This sounds like a very good fight, but don't know what kind of Jones will show up, he's been quiet lately.

Is this fight going to legitimate Arslan as a champ or not yet?

Is Jones top-5, top-10 or top-15 CW today?

Well, Jones is his mandatory challenger... honoring your mandatories is the way it should be if unification isn't possible.

Well, he also fought Wilson who is very dangerous for a non-mandatory opponent and was avoided by all the other champs.

LOL! Very dangerous indeed... :yep

But Guillermo Jones is a real dangerous cruiserweight! He is a very big guy and he sure can bang! Arslan will get his chin tested! But on the other hand Jones has big weaknesis as well... His defence and stamina are bad. In the later (or already in the middlerounds) rounds Arshole might have the upper hand. I really like Jones, so I hope that he stops Arslan inside 4 rounds... If if goes to the later rounds Arslan might be able to nick it by a close decision. But I really do belive that Arslan will be at least badly rocked once or twice in this fight.

Good matcg-up! :happy Can´t wait!
