Tiny gloves, 12 rounds, modern rules otherwise.

From the perspective of pure simulation I pick Calzaghe on points.
From the point of view of reality, tiny gloves destroys his chance. You got to hit Fitz HARD to keep him of and give you the chance to box him. Joe breaks a hand, Fitz wades in and KO's him in the next round, whenever that may be.
I'd say there's around an 80% chance of Cal injuring his hands on this guy, and it's impossible for him to win at less than 100%. I'd be confident enough to lay money. Lots of it.
its only the tiny gloves that shortens Calzaghes chances in reality, because under modern rules and 12 rounds there is only one winner, joe Calzaghe.
im not going to make a prediction that someone will break a hand...

I don't actually think the smaller gloves would increase the chances of a hand injury, as they would be lighter, making it easier for Joe to throw safe punches and less karate-chops.
The bonus of the gloves lightness should out-weight the effect of a lack of padding.
The hand wrapping of today, which is heavier than small gloves, protects the fighters hands a lot more and enabls them to fight on. Without that added protection, not only do I think his hands would break easier, but if they did, he would have a harder time carrying on.
I agree he would be much faster, but I think hand injuries would be even more likely.
As for the fight, Fitz was used to fighting using small gloves. his defence and attack was perfect for it. He wins this fight easily. Probably by stoppage around 11 or something. Calzaghe would give him some problems with his natural talent, but it would be one-sided overrall.

At Calzaghe's physical prime, he had no hand problems.

Guys, c'mon, we're talking about Fitzy boy here, which can only spew out one pugilistic equation:
Fitz x opponent = KO1.
