my father and other men (I know) knew ernie rodderick who fought HA in the 1930's. Ernie used to tell everyone that HA was taking drugs in between rounds during fights and that he had armstrong out a few times before the end of the round and Henry would come back the next round revitalised.

I take this story with a pinch of salt. my dad and many others who knew ernie believe it (i have heard this story from other people is well). but I know a bit about PA drugs and there history. I dont think anything that as advanced was around in those days

My father also tells me that Ernie was a bitter and mean man over the way the fortunes of his career went. he was scheduled to fight HA again but WW2 broke out, thus denying ernie a big payday. Many people around Liverpool believe that Roderick would of beat HA the second time around

ernie used to say:

"The only man that beat me was that Twat with the Moustache (Hitler)"

This is one of the legendary boxing one liners spread around liverpool (which I have heard many times)

According to the reports I have read about the first fight, Armstrong won nearly every round.

Does anyone reckon that HA could of had a suplement like a creatine in his water (or a magic black bottle)?

boxers today have access to some great PA drugs and nobody has ever come close to emulating Armstrongs achievements. I know that a boxer cannot hold that many world titles at one time

It could explain his unbelievable, frantic work rate to some degree.

God knows that's what drove Pryor in and out of the ring at times. Drugs. Stimulants.

If you don't think tons of current boxers have used or are using uber stimulants (Legal ones) like ephedrine now you're god damned naive.

Nobody else at or around that time ever came close to matching his workrate and great strength. Thats another reason why I dismiss these claims from a respectable source.

There would of been other boxers in that period who would of matched his work rate

I agree with your last statement 100 percent

No fighter is a pure product of drugs. Of course his stamina was legendary even without drug, looking over his entire career.

But to think drugs couldn't of added to that...

Yeah, alcohols been used for hundreds of years in the ring. Why not more beneficent drugs?

Who knows.

People weren't inherently better people 60 years ago. Or a 160 years ago. Making money is making money and if 95% of people can get an edge to insure more of it for themselves, you better fucking believe they did it.

Cocaine also enhances peoples ability to take punishment.
