Im just amazed at Toney's skill level, I believe he was born to fight just like he says...and he always fights so relaxed on top of having a granite chin. Unfortunately i have only seen a few youtube videos of Archie and could n't really get a grasp of his "Greatness" based on youtube.....PLEASE fill me in

Toney in pure terms.

Allowing for creation of chances and generalship, Moore. Moore is the better fighter generally. There were few men he couldn't create the proper chance against.

Think this may surprise many of you.

Spoke to James Toney in the gym and asked which fighters he respected. Archie Moore, Ray Robinson, Charley Burley, Holman Williams, and Rocky Marciano, was his answer.

"Why Marciano?" I asked.

"He's ol' school," he said, and went back to punching a peanut bag the size of a golf ball.

It doesn't suprise me at all that he mentions Burley, Williams. Toney was raised on boxing and in it, not to mention understanding it.

Sad that he wasn´t raised in conditioning himself and self-discipline.

Toney has better head and shoulder movement I think, Archie relied on his crossarmed turtle like defence, but by dint of his dedication consistancy and longevity Moore is the greater fighter by far, imo.

Yes...that's a bit of a surprise actually. They are almost like polar opposites, or in their purest forms they are like opposites.

That's interesting.

what film of youtube do you have? I have film of archie dating all the way back to 1940. His best filmed performance is his 9 round stoppage of jimmy bivins in 1947, archie moore looks amazing, on a whole different level than the very talented james toney. archie at his best was quicker, sharper, better upperbody movement, better footwork and believe it or not trickier! and thats only from a technical standpoint. james is great though, he made sam peter look like a fool in their first fight despite being 37 and obese.
