View Full Version : All roads to greatness lead through Floyd Mayweather Jr.

There is no getting around it. Hatton's biggest payday (est. 7-8 million) will beagainst floyd, and for good reason. Right now the welterweight division is hot because of the potential matchups between floyd against mosley or cotto. The winner of that fight will be immortalized as the consensus best of our generation. A victory over floyd right now means much more then a victory over Hoya, that's why hatton will sign to fight floyd and if cotto beats mosley he will sign to fight floyd in 08 instead of hoya.

hatton will choose to fight oscar over floyd. if he was interested in greatness he would fought pbf 2 years ago after his win over zoo.

Not really. 147 is so packed that if the fighters(Mosley, DLH, Cotto, Hatton, etc) could decided to leave Mayweather on the outside looking in. Forget fighting him. And just fight one another and they could still become ATGs. :yep

Yeah And I Dnt Care How Many Time Hoya Loses You'll Always Make More Money Fighting Hoya Then Floyd. Even If Floyd Is Better

You're so delusional you must STILL believe you have 6 Masters degrees. Your nuthuggin ass said Floyd was top 3 ATG by beating DLH...a fighter you don't even hold highly himself. YOu have no cred bitch. But the nuthuggers will love you I'm sure.

I don't care what anyone says, Floyd is the consensus top fighter at WW, he's the linear champ, and pretty much universially recognized as the top P4P fighter in the world. Clearly, anyone in that division who's a true competitior wants to fight Floyd. A win against Floyd would be the biggest victory of anyone in that division's career. The fighters at WW can become great without fighting Floyd, but beating him, especially now that he's still in his prime, would be a special accomplishment.

hatton would get at least 25 mill for fight DLH versus at most 10 mill for fighting floyd.

I agree with this:good
In response to bigtime9, Hatton would get more against De La Hoya, but a win over Floyd would be greater.

actually lets say hatton beats oscar (lets just say), i'd consider a win over oscar on par with a win over floyd. Oscar is 2 weight classes higher than hatton and a far bigger man. Oscar obviously isnt in his prime but he's still a very good fighter, a split decision loss against mayweather doesn't mean he's shot. if hatton wins it would be huge, imo.

If Hatton cares about money he'll fight Oscar, but if he cares about his legacy he'll fight Floyd.
Couldn't agree more. The money is nice, but the respect would be nicer.
De La Hoya has the payday, but Mayweather provides the real prize.

I dont see Hatton getting 25 mil against DLH or 10 mil for Floyd...
mayweather got 25 mil for his fight with oscar, why not hatton? if promoted properly, like dlh-pbf, they could get similar ppv numbers plus if held in wembley, with all of hattons fans.

Either way I don't see Hatton winning against either fighter. PBF would box circles around him and DLH would be way too big IF he can still make 147.

Good points, but I disagree. For both fights, Hatton would only be going up one weight class. However, Floyd is in his prime, is undefeated, is the top WW, and is consdidered by many to be the top fighter in the sport. If Hatton went up to 154 and beat DLH, you might have a decent argument. But that wouldn't be the case, which is why a win over Floyd is a bigger win for Hatton. There's a reason Hatton keeps bringing up Floyd's name all the time, and hasn't said much about DLH. He knows damn well which fighter does more for his legacy.

yea well hatton would pick dlh over floyd, if given the choice.

No way this fight would do the PPV numbers that Floyd/DLH did. Oscar is coming off a loss, Ricky isn't American, and there isn't the natural animosity between these two like there was between Oscar and Floyd.

True, but if they promoted this as an America vs. Britain type fight it would be huge. Oscar is still immensely popular in America and Hatton has huge popularity in Britain.

DLH brought in that 25 million for Mayweather, once you take DLH out of the equation Mayweathers price drops big time. Only way to get close to those numbers would be due to Hatton fighting him in his home city.

True. Oscar has been beat numerous times now and only represents a career high pay day at this point. Floyd is the man at 147 and the surrounding weights.
Hatton would most likely choose Oscar though if given the choice, he'll make a lot more money that way.

I didnt say it was all oscar but floyd would have never made that much if it wasnt for oscar. Has he ever in the past? I dont recall it.

Of course he hasn't, but given that nobody else has made anywhere near that much money off DLH leads me to believe that Floyd's name and status as the best fighter out there had a good deal to do with why the fight was so succesful. Not even Oscar's fight with a prime, undefeated Trinidad was this succesful.

i still think its majority of oscars name. Look at it this way--if hatton fights PBF--which i doubt---theres no way they make as much money as floyd and oscar fight.

Yeah, only to get 0 credit after the fight if he wins. Shane Mosley is 35 just like Oscar you know.

Of course they wouldn't, but that doesn't change my opinion that success of the Floyd Oscar fight was due to the name and status of both fighters.

Very true--but moreso Oscar and you know this. Oscar is the most recognized fighter in todays boxing era. he is the one packing arenas-not nuthugging only saying the truth. Floyd never will make as much money on any fight as much as he did with oscar.

There's no doubt that Oscar is a bigger draw than Floyd. Oscar always does good numbers. However, he was able to take it to the next level when he fought Floyd. His fight with Floyd did better numbers than his fight with Trinidad and his first fight with Shane combined.

No it wont, not if he has a chance to fight Oscar. :nono :deal
Why does legacy matter so much to you now. Didnt you and the rest of the groupies support Floyd taking the Oscar fight for the most money? Now legacy should dictate Hattons decision to fight Floyd for 8 million when he could double that easily fighing DLH?
I would rather see Hatton fight Floyd, anyone would. But the hypocracy from you is ridiculous.

So if Cotto was to beat Mosley, Hatton, Williams, Margarito, Cintron, ODLH and throw in Collazo for the sake of it, he wouldn't be considered great?
