After suprising everyone and beating a very poor mbaye, Ring has put Rees at number 4 in its rankings, ahead of people like demetrius hopkins and just one place below malignaggi...

Not the end of the world. He beat a good champ and is still undefeated. He still remains an unknown quantity but is enjoying a boom from a what have you done for me lately perspective.

That's funny, Rees' entry into the Ring's rankings pushed Kotelnik out of them.

I agree maybe Rees is ranked a little too highly after all, top 10 perhaps.

But............. the Rings rankings are a little silly if you ask me.

Hatton will be Champion forever because he will never get to defend against the number 1 contender. What's the point in having a ring champion who won't face the top contenders?

Hatton had many meaningless WBU title fights with no mandatories, then he wins the IBF title against an old Tsyzu. Since then he has never defended the belt against a proper challenger.

He picks the fights he wants. If everyone else gave up belts and did that then Ricky would be still with ****** as the WBU champion.

I'm sorry, unless Hatton beats Witter and takes on real challengers who are

1. Young 2. Undefeated 3. Can punch 4. Are proper 140lbs or 147lbs

Then I have no time for him.

Faded names, lightweights, light punchers, people who have lost fights by KO don't cut it.

People expect Rees to be knocked out in his next fight and many are picking Harris to beat Witter. No-one will bet against Hatton because the opponents have minimal chance of winning.

He only defended it once, then vacated to move upto 147lbs. There was no avoided Mandatories in that time.

By proper contender that are proper 140lbs, look at them:

Witter- Not undefeated and at 33 he would be dubbed 'shot'.
Malignaggi- Not a puncher, not undefeated
Harris- Not particularly young, not undefeated.
Rees- Not a puncher, probably isnt natural 140 fighter.

Who exactly do you want him to fight:?

Witter!

Hatton don't do mandatories.

By making that list above, are you suggesting that Hatton is the best of a very bad bunch, who is hiding at 140lbs?

Witter!

Whats the point in that? As soon as Ricky wins it will be "OMG Witter is 33 Hatton's going for old fighters again!"

Hatton versus Witter would be a huge fight in the UK, but Hatton does not want it because he would lose.

Hatton would beat Witter soundly.

Rees won the fight fair and square, but hes still way unproven to be 4th place. How the hell M'Baye stayed in the top 10 after that performance is beyond me

Castillo was the ring no1 contender :good

UndisputedUK

How could Castillo be number 1 at 140? Based on what?
Never rated Castillo, especially at 140.

Anyway, Witter is number 1 now. If Hatton is indeed fighting Mayweather in December, do you think it makes a Witter fight more likely?

What I mean is when Mayweather stops Hatton, do you think Hatton will then fight Witter for the WBC title in Manchester?

I like Gavin, I've known him from a young age and was in school with him. I respect what he's done and couldn't have been more delighted when he beat M'Baye so I'm far from a hater.

BUT, this is just plain silly. Ring surely have no idea who Rees is and probably haven't even seen him fight at all. They (Ring magazine) claim not to be influenced by belts and who's holding them. Installing Rees at #4 in their prestigious rankings after beating a shit version of an old M'Baye really is fucking stupid. Rees was nowhere near their top 10 before the fight. Sure, there's a strong case for him being top 10 now but they have installed him at #4 because he is WBA champion, no other reason. The Ring rankings are as meaningless as any other rankings system in my opinion.

agreed...their rankings are meaningless for all but their champions.

btw, torres the wbo lww champ isn't even in the top 10, but his next opponent (holt) is.

Yeh taking on Castillo and Mayweather instead of defending his title to such a strong dvision of contenders (who aren't fit to lace his boots) it shows Hatton's true colours - ultimate cowardice!
