Shannon Briggs always comes to mind.
Knocked out more than one fighter with the first punch he threw. Accurate, started unbelievably fast, loved to counter punch and did it well.
On top of all that, I think he might have the record for first round knockouts, slightly above Dempsey even.
Also, Buddy Baer.
Even bigger than his brother with comparable power and better boxing fundamentals. Also has a amazing amount of first round stoppages.

At the upper most echelon... Joe Louis, of course.
In 72 fights against great, great competiion he only went 429 rounds. Most of that from fights that went the distance very late in his career.
Russell

Wow, in 81 fights George Foreman only went 350 rounds.
Insane.

Tyson has to be mentioned as well, and Dempsey is up there too.
Russell

Looking for less mentioned names. ;)
Riddick Bowe, whatever his other faults completely smashed more than one decent fighter quicker than anyone else ever had.
I can't remember anyone else destroying Bert Cooper in two like he did.
Dokes? One Round.
Who else blew out Jesse Ferguson in two?
We know about Seldon's dive against Tyson, but Bowe legitimately crushed him in two.

Shavers...if we a talking "the potential" of danger.

bob satterfield.
well known but not as famous as those mentioned here. was most dangerous in the first round, less as the fight went on. a classic example is his fight with ezzard charles. had charles on queer street first round, which ezzard had to rely on instinct to get through it. second round..charles kayoed with one punch.
if you want to go obscure...nick wells, the hardest hitting amateur i ever saw, and i saw a lot of them. not always in the best shape. as a pro, i think his short career was all kayoes, either for or against. short southpaw....if he had been able to get into condition i think he would have kayoed his way to the top. :

Tyson , with his speed and power, must be right up there as most dangerous for anyone ....
Foreman and Lennox Lewis as well ...

Christ, you guys.........
Sorry, but i can't rate him near Louis, Tyson or Foreman. These guys poleaxed top fighters and ATG's while they were still a serious force. Earnie's power rates with anyone ever but when the level of opponent goes up he pales to these three.
If we talk about vs average Joe's well that might be a different matter.

Tyson,Foreman would test you early but Faded, Shavers had power as long as he had gas but he came in with a lil tank, Louis would test you early but knew how not to waste punches and make everyone count and when you were hurt he was the best finisher...Louis had a college degree and these other guys were in elementary school, although Foreman got more relaxed in comeback

Quarry took Shavers out in the 1st round.
Shavers obviously is dangerous because of his power but the chances of him landing an early bomb on an ATG is less than the others mentioned.

..it's russell's thread and at one point he asks for more obscure names....and then this guy seems surprised that no one mentioned earnie shaver...who is far from being obscure. david tua well, less known but still hardly a club fighter. come on, guys...if you see a word like obscure that you don't know the meaning of, look it up in the dictionary
(shaver is earnie's real name. he changed it to shavers because he gave up on tryiing to get anyone to use it correctly, although he did win the battle to keep earnie instead of ernie.)

Tommy Burns deserves a mention.
Many of his oponents were less than stelar but he was giving up a lot of weight and smashing them early.

Lets hear it for the `Acorn` Earnie Shavers! Arguably the hardest one pinch bomber in boxing history. That right hand was an explosive bomb! Loved it when he blew out Norton in one round. Not that Norton`s chin was star quality:(

Tommy Morrison was very dangerous with fast hands, combination punching and excellent power. A threat early for anyone.

I've seen his handspeed described as faster than some versions of Tyson.
Don't know that I'd disagree for a few rounds.

Liston needs to be mentioned.
Wayne Bethea (TKO1), Clevland Williams (TKO2, TKO3), Nino Valdez (TKO3), Zora Folley (KO3), and of course Floyd Patterson (KO1, KO1).
That's 7 wins against top contenders and a two-time champion that all ended inside of 3 rounds.

Yes , you are right.. and the thing is, they were not garbage can fighters either.
They were dangerous bastards who were world class..
He also dispatched a long string of no names before them via the early route..
Ie.. Al Malcolm, Jorge Dascola, Mike Simawelu..
Another 1 round merchent was a mister Frank Bruno.. He was a killer..

..thomas....i picked nick wells because, as requested, he is certainly obscure, a word you seem to have trouble with. yes, he went nowwhere as pro, as i mentioned. maybe you also have trouble with the word powerful. no one who saw him can deny he was a murderous one punch, one round knockoout hitter.
maybe we should come up with a new championship designation... hardest hitting most obscure one round fighter in the world, with various guys being called champion by the wbc, wba, who, aztec boxing council,wbo...etc. i think we really need more alpahabet titles.

apparently that ******* sanchez or whoever, with his delicate rhetorical question regarding my breakfast thinks i have been nasty to you..which i haven't, and if i was i've read enough of your posts to realize you can take care of yourself quite well, without the need of help from anyone.

i see that others are still posting non-obscure fighters anyway...the same ones over and over......so what the hell...this just means there are more illiterates than i thought
re: the asterisks in my comment about sanchez...they make it look as if i said something worse than i actually did! for the record did not use any bad language...no curse words....nada.

The early version of Tyson, all in all black, was frightening. At times the look on his opponents face said it all!
