Not sure actually whether something like this would be classed as a spoiler, something others would prefer to not know until they can watch the highlights tonight...?
Well, either way, Saunders won TKO1 over Ghana's Kotey Neequaye.
Conceded the first couple points to Neequaye, then floored him with a slightly sloppy left hook. Neequaye took the count, Saunders chased after him with more shots, and pole-axed him with a dead-on left hook to the belly. Neequaye was still visibly in discomfort for two or three minutes afterwards.

The first KD didn't even look like a good punch at all, more cuffing than anything. But the body shot was spot on.

I think from the title of the thread it's fairly obvious what the content is going to be, without spoiling it. I just wish others would bear this in mind when naming threads.
As for this fight, it was a great finish. I think the 1st knockdown was actually caused by a body shot as well, the left hook just helped him on his way.
Anyone seen the other Saunders fight, Billy Jo? Fantastic performance against the a guy who bronze at the worlds.

Billy Joe Saunders is an outstanding talent. He has power too, this kid will be a good pro.

It has been surprising how entertaing the boxing has been so far. Far removed from what we usually get from amature boxing.

Billie Joe Saunders was very good eh?
Very, very impressive skills there, wow.
great results for the two saunders.
billy joe has a tough draw with a cuban in the next round, but he's got a decent chance.

Yep, he was on top of his game. Seems a nice guy too, brimming with confidence. Moves well. Very skillfull.
This guy is the most talented of the lot. If he performs to this level every time he'll get a medal, but we can't expect consistency from a kid.
But long-term, this guy has more of a future than Gavin, or dare I say it Khan in the pro ranks.
How the hell can he be past European level?
He hasn't beaten Romanov unless I missed it, or even anybody comparable. I don't dislike the kid like many, but he WILL get laid out cold against Romanov, or any top 10.

What happens in these games will influence things a lot, clearly
But at 18 will he want to remain Amateur for London 2012?
Could be a while until we see him as a pro

I totally agree with you and the previous poster. He needs to move UP to domestic level not DOWN :deal

I don't see an issue with staying around until London. That would be sensible for his progression, and he'll also have a great chance of picking up a medal there on this evidence.
He'll be 22/23, with a good amateur career behind him at that point. Perfect.

Got to go pro straight after the games. He is made for the pro game, don't waste four years for the sake of qualifying for London 2012.
He could be fighting in front of massive crowds anyway by then, if he plays his cards right.

In the 3rd and 4th rounds he was toying with the turk.
Absolutely schooled him, lovely too watch!

if he wins any kind of medal this time round i can see him getting big money offers to turn pro which will be difficult for any teenager to resist.

It is difficult to tell which is the best. BJ had the easiest opponent BTW - I would bet that people will be saying that Degale is the best when he schools the American :deal

no chance billy joe had the toughest opponent by a long way, the guy he fought was a bronze medalist at the worlds, he was expected to loose.

Completely right, I missed it on the first viewing but on the second watch I saw him plant a left hook to the body and that was the one that sent his opponent down for the first KD.

I must have got the Saunders boys mixed up.
I must have got the Saunders boys mixed up.
yeah, bradley saunders had the weakest opponents of the lot so its difficult to judge him until the next round when he fights french boxer Vastine who is considerably better than the ghanian.

Yes, the standard has been excellent, but unfortunately you still get the crap 'look at me' over officious referees and blind judges who can't see when a punch has CLEARLY landed
