Has their ever been talk of a fourth fight between these two outstanding lightheavyweights, but at heavyweight? Say, anywhere between 1948 and 1954. If it happened, do you think Moore could've won his first match against Ezzard?
Charles had his fatal fight with Baroudi right after the third Moore fight, that may have had an impact on him. He did put an awesome winning streak together after that, though.

As great as Moore was, he couldn't seem to beat Charles. It is hard to imagine Arch prevailing at any time or weight.

Charles was sliding and Moore was rising as time went on. It's possible that Moore would have won at heavyweight around the time that both fought Marciano. Charles did put in the most impressive performance against Marciano of all his title challengers, but Moore was better at that time against the contenders of the day.
Is there any decent footage of Charles as lightheavy around?

Charles had succeeded in knocking out Archie in their third match, outfoxing Moore in the process. Ezz had Archie's number, simple as that.
Once it became apparent that Charles wouldn't be able to regain the HW Title, it seems to me that a move back down to the LH division would have virtually assured him of a crack at Archie's championship. I'd imagine the Mongoose would have loved a chance to finally beat Charles, and if Ezz had managed to beat Archie for a fourth time, the Cobra might have been able to parlay that into a shot at Patterson.

If they fought late 1953 as a title eliminator for Marciano's heavyweight championship, who would you favor to come out victorious?

If they fought late 1953 as a title eliminator for Marciano's heavyweight championship, who would you favor to come out victorious?I believe Charles would have knocked Archie out again. Granted, Ezz dropped decisions to Nino Valdes and Harold Johnson during that time period, while Moore was on a tear, but I really believe that Ezz had Archie's number head-to-head. Charles was also half a year away from giving Marciano 15 rounds of hell. It was very prudent on Archie's part not to rematch Charles a fourth time.

Your insights are always appreciated Duodenum, even though it's not about PCP this time.:D
From your posts, i take it you rate Charles higher as light heavyweight than Moore ?

Your insights are always appreciated Duodenum, even though it's not about PCP this time.:DAs long as it's understood what PCP is! (I wonder if Panama Lewis did have it in Pryor's little black bottle against Arguello:admin. At least that post was educational, if nothing else!:deal)From your posts, i take it you rate Charles higher as light heavyweight than Moore ?I indeed rate Charles higher as a light heavyweight Chris, largely on the basis of his dominance over Moore (as do many others). It is a close call for me though, considering Archie's incredible LH record after his final match with Charles.
Aside from Ezzard's 3-0 record against Moore, there is very little to pick between them as light heavyweights. I tentatively place Michael Spinks at the top of that list, as he was never defeated at that weight, but this is subject to flux, since he didn't have the longevity and extreme depth of resume shared by Archie and Ezzard.

As mentioned, Ezzard seemed to have Archie's number, but I think if they did fight, Ezzard would win a SD in a thriller.

Moore said that Charles wanted another fight ,late in his career ,by then Ezzard was sliding badly, and Archie said , " no , you just keep it for your grand children that you beat old Archie 3 times".

If he did do that, then that's sheer class on Moore's part.
I believe Moore did want to fight Charles for the heavyweight title. Surely he would've been a tougher challenge than Maxim for the fourth or fifth time, although Maxim held the light heavyweight title then.

There was an old Louis v Moore fight mooted, but Moore said he nixed it because he respected Louis too much.
