Nice link Jeff. He took a terrible amount of punishment in those fights, especially the last. Maybe some of those morons on the GF could do with watching this before they call the likes of Cotto a "quitter".

yeah a real tough sport - but I'm sure a big fat cheque must make the pain a bit more bearable

Try feeling like that after getting less then a grand fighting 10 rounds for the British Masters title... then getting jobbed out of the decision. Then you know you love the sport . ;-)

:good excellent find there Jeff. I was in pain watching that! I've only ever had a couple of ribs broken and that was painful enough.
I don't mean this in a smart arse way but have you ever been bashed up like that Jeff? how long before you start feeling normal again?

Great vid. I remember Nigel Benn's description of the aftermath of the G-man fight, pissing blood for days and having to have his wife do absolutely everything for him for about a week.

No thank god I've never really taken a beating but 10 rounds is tough on anyones body and my fight with Hardcastle was a bit of a belter so we both had a few bruises in that one...
You pick up lots of injuries but the most dibilitating one was earlier this year it was only a minor muscle tear but christ it was irritating.
Headaches are the worst thing I get. I get migranes maybe once or twice a year - don't know if its boxing related but my god I can't even walk to the bathroom without been sick. After a fight you tend to fell fuzzy for a couple of days and I used to always be sick after my fights win or lose.
I fought Dave Curran with really bad Flu and that was the only time I was able to go out partying after lol. Every other time it was throw up then bed.. celebrate the next day.
Great find mate.
It's amazing how they can have a laugh and a joke about shoes after beating the shit out of each other for ten rounds.
Lets be glad he's kept his word about the retirement.

good video, I got jumped and beat up in a club and it was the first time for me, got knocked out and woke up with a broken nose and needing stitches and it wasn't fun to say the least but it really gives you some perspective when you see the punishment fighters take.

The migraines won't be boxing related, I get them at similar intervals and have never boxed.

The migranes are probably from a result of having to read all the shite on here

Not asking to rattle you or anything, but don't you worry about long-term effects of the sport?
One thing I've never quite understood is how some boxers seem to escape totally unscathed, whilst others who have maybe had less fights and seemingly taken less overall punishment end up punchy.

There's usually quite a distinct correllation between guys who exhibit signs of damage and the length/severity of their careers I think.
Ofcourse there are exceptions to every rule.

In my own career I had about 50 amateur fights and 16 pro's but I never got hit much maybe 1-2 big ones in a fight. The only long term injuries i've got are a slighlty squiff nose and hands that are very stiff and don't operate well in the cold. Very Lucky.

Just because someone gets migraines who has never boxed does not mean Jeffs are not boxing related.
Tito retired and unretired due to migraines after most of his bouts.
Rafael Marquez gets them badly.
Nicky Butt if he has a clash of heads in a game is the victim of them.
I stopped boxing because A i was no good and B i felt like shit after nausea, vomiting, headaches and after a few times it was not worth it to me.

After the McAllister fight which was pretty easy I spewed up a stomach full of blood that i'd swallowed from a cut on my tongue....... it was nice.

So nice you posted it twice. :good
Anyway just got round watching the vid. Very good.
At one of the first boxing cards I went to I ended up sat to a young boxers parents and girl friend. They were a great bunch (can't remember the name of the kid) but anyway this kid had a 4/3's fight but got stopped in the 3rd pretty hard and it took awhile before it was made clear he was alright. The feeling that the parents and girl friend went through in the short time he was down really changed my view on the sport.
