View Full Version : The Hardest Shots You've Ever Seen

Looking for some of the hardest shots you've ever seen and that really stick out in your mind, and the effect that they had when they landed.

Looking for some lesser known ones. Maybe give myself and others some good fights to look for to see these shots.

---------------------------------------------------

After Lennox's upset loss to Oliver McCall he started on the comeback trail. One of his victims was the 5'9 borderline cruiserweight ****** Fortune.

Fortune tried to make it a fight, and landed some decent bodyshots... But he was just too small.

The fight ended with a triple uppercut combination from Lewis. Each made it through Fortune's guard with minimal or not resistance. Each one was thrown with this look of rage on Lennox's face, and each one looked like it was going to tear Fortune's head off his shoulders.

Friggin' brutal.

Shortly after beating James Toney, Roy Jones Jr. fought a fighter who had taken Toney to a SD years before... Merqui Sosa.

In those two rounds the handspeed of Jones let him land unbelievably clean shots on Sosa. Considering Jones was one of the hardest 168 pounders of all time, they were brutal. Jones didn't hold back a thing.

The only time Sosa was done is when Jones didn't his patented leaping hook and basically tackled Sosa over. Similar to what he did to James Toney.

The fight ended with Sosa on the ropes eating punches from Jones that you figure would kill him.

The stoppage resulted in Sosa's corner storming into the ring borderline attacking the ref, and even the commentators were basically disgusted.

"Obviously the ref wasn't aware of how Sosa fights."

His entire fight plan was basically being a punch sponge.

At least Sosa got 7 rounds to work against Charles William's when they were killing one another.

During the Mercer/Morrison slaughter, a slow motion replay of Morrison landing a right uppercut and his patented left hook flush on Mercer was shown.

One of the hardest HW combinations I have ever seen land flush from a known power puncher.

Quite recent, but Cintron's two punch (left hook, straight right) finish against Walter Matthyse was brutal in the extreme. I thought the guy was dead when he hit the canvas.

Say what you will about Cintron, but it can't be denied that he is a massive puncher at his weight.

Yeah, Cintron's power is scary.

Alexis Arguello hitting Aaron Pryor's bobbing head with one of the tastiest rights of his career in the 13th round of the first fight.

Has there ever been a time when such a fantastically timed punched has been met with such distain?

A perfect punch and no reaction.

Julian Jackson knocking Herol Graham out cold.

Azumah Nelson on Pat Cowdell who was out for about 10 minutes.

Hearns on Duran.

Eubank's uppercut that nearly killed Michael Watson.

Probably quite obvious but they were all frightening to see.

Felix Trinidad slamming a flush left hook into Yory Boy Campas' face.

Campas' arms go limp and his upperbody slumps down and he's staring at his knees, because somehow he's still standing. Then the ref pushes him back up against the ropes.

Mzukiseni Lengesi vs Luyolo Katiya II

a south african light heavywieght fight against 2 nobodies.

lengesi a real bar room brawler using awkward big shots form many angles especially his overhand right.
Katiya was a cutie he had pretty good technique and had a nice jab and move style he was also a specimen for his long arms and with not a pound of fat on him.

it started out what most thought it was gonna be like. the cleaner more complete katiya out jabbing and out comboing lingesi. lingesi came in to throw a wild left but got caugth with a 1-2-1 that jammed him through the ropes. breaking his nose with the first jab blood pouring everywhere. he was unmoved mentally as he got up wiped his gloves he released a huge booming overhand right snapping katiyas head back sending luyolo down like when drago hit apollo for the fatal punch. almsot doing the worm. whiping his face full force intot the canvas. so hard was this fall that it was audible over the heavy screaming of the capacity crowd.

katiya got up barely wobbling all over the place, surprisingly the ref let it go on crazily to which katiya got knocked into the ref again.
blood pouring from lingesi's nose staining both there trunks to a grim colour, he charged with a swinging right hook that was gonna knock down trees it was gonna knock down a building it was gonna destroy a sherman tank.

katiya with all the sense he had left was to launch his left jab.

THWAK:yikes :yikes :yikes :yikes :yikes

this jab that katiya throws lands on lingesi's exposed jaw was so solid it made his mouth guard fly like a boeing 747 into the camera, the jab was so precise it exploded on lingesi jaw and nose spurting blood all over the stadium all over the trunks all over the ref who's green jacket is turned to a shining purple...

lingesi spins with the foreward inertia of his right hand to the floor asleep. the ref even counted:lol:  couldnt believe my eyes.

it was on kotv not that long ago it was the greatest one punch i have ever seen....coming from a jab also didnt just shock and amaze i have it on my digi box and reminds me that oscar-pacman fight could draw millions around the world but only this punch can be seen by a few thousand people and most will say it was a great fight

Some memorable ones:

Ruddock vs Dokes ([Only registered and activated users can see links]). If Dokes weren't such a waste of a human being, I might feel sorry for him. As it is, fuck Dokes.

Tua vs Ruiz ([Only registered and activated users can see links]). The last shot when Ruiz is on his way down is really scary, especially if you see a version where they show the replay in slow motion. Also, the last left hook from Tua vs Izonreiti/Izon ([Only registered and activated users can see links]).

Arguello vs Rooney ([Only registered and activated users can see links]). As perfect a counter as you will ever see. Also that right hand shot by Arguello in round 13 vs Pryor.

Hearns vs Duran. I'm sure we've all seen this one before.

About half the shots in the last round of Gatti vs Ruelas ([Only registered and activated users can see links]), but particularly the last counter left hook.

Marciano Vs Walcott ([Only registered and activated users can see links]). It doesn't get much better than that.

Walcott knocking out Ezzard Charles ([Only registered and activated users can see links]). Perfect and vicious shot.

Joe Frazier knocking Ali down in the FOTC.

Joe Louis vs Buddy Baer ([Only registered and activated users can see links]), pretty much every shot Louis hit him with in this clip could qualify, but the last one is a real killer. Out before he hit the floor.

Note, if you can't see it, pretty much all of the times where I put A vs B is a link to the footage.

The first right hand landed by Emile Griffith against Parrett that rocked him and set him up for the life-ending finish. It landed with a sickening thud.

Joe Frazier's left hook against Quarry in their second fight. Quarry was on the ropes, Frazier jabbed a couple of times then BANG. I can't believe he was still standing after it.

Oh, and Manny Pacquiao vs Lucero ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) kinda resembles Zab Judah vs. Kostya Tszyu in a way, but if you watch all the slow motion replays the last one shows how that shot which looks so effortless really snaps Lucero's head around.

Andrew Maynard's Ko over Butch Hall was as scary a knockout as you'll find. Hall was out cold from the right hand thrown by Maynard, but the follow-up left hook almost seemed to drive him into the canvas. It resembled the Pettway Ko over Brown shown above, but with a left hook to add to Hall's woes. Where Brown was throwing imaginary punches, Hall looked like he was being hit with 10,000 volts repeatedly.
Maynard really looked to be the real deal back then...what a pity he lost his way.

Primo Ramos' Ko over Frankie Randall (the same Randall who later beat Chavez) was another big knockout. Ramos hit Randall with a short left hook and Randall fell like a sack of rocks. Fight over. What a classic left hook that was.

Dingaan Thobela was not a huge puncher, but he caught Francisco Alvarez with a peach of a right uppercut in the 9th round of their fight, sending Alvarez falling limply to the canvas, out cold. What made the Ko really ugly looking was that Alvarez fell down onto his own leg, which buckled grotesquely under his weight.

Gatti's ko of Gamache springs to mind.

Hm, Abraham´s KO over Ghevor quite recently. Both German-based Armenians fighting a very good and entertaining fight with Ghevor swarming all over Abraham round after round, never backing up and non-stop throwing punches. Abraham countering beautifully and is hitting Ghevor with very hard shots again and again but Ghevor takes everything. Than in the 11th round Abraham landed this scary left hooker-cut and really thought he killed Ghevor. But he was okay and is fighting for the European mw title later this year. The heart, determination and chin Ghevor showed in there was absolut fantastic.

I like those Bob Foster 1 punchers aginst Quarry and a tough tough guy in Tiger. Rondon was another bad one, but those first 2 guys were guys that don't get stopped.

But that Foster/Quarry bout was a miracle when you think about it. Foster had already suffered a brutal ko himself in that Frazier bout & thta's > some other heavyweight losses. He continued to defend that title & the last guy you ever see old champions face is the 35-0 w/ 6 ko's guy. They use ringsmarts & reflexes in there and is style very very tough on the old guys. But Foster just went ahead and signed to fight anybody anywhere and then went on to ruin the guy with 1 left hook.

Yeah, me too. I could only think of a few other Heavyweights ever who could've got up from that (McCall and Chuvalo being obvious choices, with Ali and maybe Liston the few others). Whilst Shavers didn't possess good technique, or stamina to say the least his one punch power was monstoruous. You had to respect the guy bigtime and it was a mistake to get sloppy against him (unless you had a granite chin). Having said all that he wasn't exactly a truely great finisher, against anyone other than journeymen: a combination of that and Larry's heart and recuperative powers pulled him through. Forgot about the Jones Jr vs Montell Griffin rematch.

Ps: My other pick as regards Lewis would be the Rahman rematch a decoy left hook, then massive right hand through the opening. Rahman was out cold before he hit the deck. Brutal. :)

The final, finishing right hand that Ron Lyle hit Earnie Shavers with to ko him in their fight in '76 or '77 was a real bomb. I thought he'd kill Earnie with it. Lyle was a real tiger in that fight, battling back from getting decked himself. He fought back like a beast, and was a killer at the end.

The Wanderer
08-14-2008, 09:57 PM
A lot of Foreman's comeback fights had awe-inspiring shots. His KO of Gerry Cooney is a good example. Also, two uppercuts he hit Frazier with in their first bout: the uppercut with about 18 seconds left in the first round, and the shot that lifted Frazier right off his feet in the second round. Whether throwing it as a pure uppercut, or as a combination uppercut/hook, Foreman had one of the most powerful uppercuts in history.

I don't even like watching that one...

The last shot that Evander caught Seamus Mcdonagh with.. a head shot that sent him through the ropes..

that clean shot that Mike Nunn landed on Sumbu Kalambay, it was odd because Mike really wasn't a large puncher.

Tysons left hook against Carl Williams... Game over..

Herbie Hides left uppecut against Conroy Nelson was rediculous..

that shot that Renaldo Snipes landed on a prime Larry Holmes was stunning, he decoyed with a jab to Holmes's belly, and dropped a power right hand on his chops.. Snipes was champ of the world for 8 seconds... (so close)

You're absolutely right about that one. Valdez's performance was so masterful that it's almost like the cherry on top to refer to the ko punch. That shot was, to use an overused phrase, "AWESOME"....and it was even more so because it was on Bennie Briscoe, who was indestructable up to that point.

I know people will scoff because of the lack of technique involved in the punch, or the lack of quality of the puncher, but for sheer power of impact it has to be Hasim Rahman's KO of Lennox Lewis.

Have another look people:
