View Full Version : What Started Your Addiction to Boxing
What fight, or what fighters are responsible for your love of boxing?
I have watched boxing since the late 80īs when I was a kid, but it was Tito Trinidad and Roy Jones Jr that made me really love boxing in the late 90īs. The fights that I will allways remember most are the Barrera vs Morrales wars.
Of the old time fighters, I love SRR, Pep, Kid Chocolate and Gavillan, Ezzard Charles, Armstrong, etc. Of todays fighters, its RJJ, Barrera, Trinidad, and Morrales.

Like many in my generation, it all began with the great Muhammad Ali. The fight that REALLY got me hooked, though, was the first Leonard-Hearns fight. After that I was at TOTAL diehard, and have been ever since.

Ali-Frazier 2 was my first experience - I was a bit young, but it helped I got the Superman-Ali comic.
I really started following boxing around '79 with Mogens Palles pro fights. The coverage of boxing has always been failing in Denmark, so my knowledge wasn't extensive.

I knew this extraordinary guy with pugilistica dimensia who fought in the teens, twenties, and 30's last century that won more than he lost but could only remember the ones he won. In his damaged mind he was undefeated. He had about a 30 second cognitive memory but he could describe his fights from 50 years earlier with dramatic skill.

(coming from a younger guy here keep in mind) mayweather/dlh got me EXTREMELY addicted. All the hype of that fight just hooked me. I watched a little here and there before that, but that fight hooked me more into boxing ten fold. Pretty sure it did for some of my buddies too - even though I keep telling them that that fight was a stinker compared to some others I have seen.

You Tube....Being able to go and see so many old great fights has got me hooked. Whenever I am bored I just look for a fight.
I would really only get into boxing when there were big fights (Tyson, DLH, etc..) but now I cant get enough of it!! This board is sweet too....learn lots of good stuff here.

Bruno-Witherspoon and the rise of Tyson in 1986 was what turned me into a hardcore fan.
I remember watching boxing earlier, notably Ali-Holmes, Alan Minter, and the Barry McGuigan world title fights, but it was the Bruno-Witherspoon fight that got me obssessed.

The mighty Iron Mike Tyson of course.
I guess like most people my age (44) Ali got me interested. But my real interest started with Jim Watt(very underated) and Colin Jones after that i boxed myself for a while then discovered drink and drugs(like any young man should). Then Nigel Benn came along and i have been hooked ever since.

ali/frazier 1 got me into boxing........i remember the older guys on the block talking about them. i was about 8 yrs old at the time. next day's paper had a pic of frazier's face all puffy and lumped up and i got mad. that's when i became a fan of frazier and of boxing in general. ali/frazier 2-3 really got me into it.
I really started to get into boxing when tyson came back from prison. Then I started following the careers of Lennox Lewis, Holyfield, Oscar De La Hoya, B-Hop, Roy Jones Jr, Felix Trinidad, Shane Mosley, Vargas etc.
